The Avid 100 speakers are great! I have a set, and were a big surprise when I got them just how good they are. I prefer t6hese to my Mordaunt Short Pagaent II speakers.
It is very hard to judge your sound since it came from a series of distortion starting from your camera microphone, going through you-tube standardization, my sound card, Sansui Amplifier R-550 and Senheiser HD265 linear. Anyway, I would strongly suggest you getting newer CD-Player. That old one which you have simply spoils entire picture.
The CD players from the 80's are harsh and brutish, the DAC's in these are crude at best. Digital to analong conversion went a LOOOOONG way forward since. Try a SimAudio MOON DAC or a Berkeley Alpha DAC...miles ahead.

Don't forget that CD players from the early 1980s didn't employ oversampling. They had aggressive brickwall filters in the analog output stage to deal with aliasing in the rather small headroom between 20 kHz and 22.05 kHz.
Those brickwalls were difficult to design and build properly and were expensive.
Cool stroll down memory lane. I've owned several of these components. A lot of Pioneer fans didn't appreciate the futuristic looks of the "Communicator" series, but I always enjoyed them. Now I want some again. lol
Excellent system. The Avid Model 100's are the best part. I have two pairs, one pair from 1976 (inherited from my dad), one from 1977 that I got off eBay. I also have a great sounding pair of Model 102's from eBay. I like the accoustic suspension (sealed, no ports) design of Avids. Tighter bass. Tweeters made in Belgium.
my dad has an old pioneer system downstairs i think the old pioneer systems are amazing man ive got a soft spot for anything pioneer made :) we have the f-757, a-400, pd-8500 & the ct-959 setup with a pair of jbl lx33 speakers there not really loud but the quality of audio the speakers produce are nice clear and crisp
That was really the LAST round of good gear from Pioneer! Your PL-7 is not really an entry-level table... The PL-7 was a Quartz PLL Direct Drive Fully Auto turntable with a VERY GOOD Polymar Graphite tonearm...you just need a better quality cart is all.
Wow, this is so cool. I have an A-7, F-9 and CT-7R in my computer room too. I have an SX-8 in my bedroom. I also happen to have a PD-M6 in my media room (main stereo/surround system is in that room).
Also, you can't help but to love that champagne color and design. I miss the good old days of well designed and well built equipment.
I'm also a big Pioneer fan. I owned that same receiver back in the mid-eighties and always loved the sound. Pioneer's last gasp of hi fidelity before they went south (aka home theater). A very interesting color scheme but a great hi-tech layout. Long live vintage audio!
why do you have reverb??????

The SX-6 is a beast. My dad still uses it. He gave me his PL-7, and I'm loving every second!

But the classic Pioneer receivers are timeless.

cool i have the pioneer sx-9 coupled to a set of sansui spx-9 speakers sounds great i wish it was complete though you have a nice setup there.

I am collecting this system, the only thing i need is the pioneer ct-9r, and the A-8 is a intergraded amp, so you don't need the sx-6 as a pre amp.

All this gear is well above avarage!
