  • "Really. It's in that book you hold up when you scream at gay people."

Hahahaha I love this man <3

  • "I'm a not Christian. JUST LIKE MOST CHRISTIANS." Perfectly said.

  • Right on Bill, If Jesus could see the atrocities some humans have committed in his name, he'd turn in his grave.

  • @IncurableNostalgic He doesn't have a grave. That's kind of the whole point.

  • Comment removed

  • @cjh2711 Exactly, that's the point of the joke. (It's a metaphorical statement, not a literal one.)

  • To see Religulous, visit our blog please, address in the description. Cheers

  • ima Christian and i agree with what you were trying to say...

  • @paula13914 Watch religilous. I think youll like it.

  • amen to this guy

  • Christians are some of the biggest hypocrites ever!

    Greetings from a former Catholic

  • Ghandi was also a racist

  • BRAVO!

  • This guy has an amazing sense of humor, and he looks like my dad's deceased best friend too </3

Atheist Comedy brought me here ;)

  • and finally, just to piss everyone off...

God: A guy to talked to some Jewish guys, some Christian guys and some Muslim guys, and accidentally caused more people to die than anyone else in history.

And people wonder why he doesn't talk much to anyone anymore...

  • If religion were true, its followers would not try to bludgeon their young into an artificial conformity; but would merely insist on their unbending quest for truth, irrespective of artificial backgrounds or practical consequences.

    HP Lovegraft.

  • Atheism is the rejection of indefensible theistic claims. Nothing more. Theists say "This is how it is". I say, "Prove It". They fail to provide proof, so I don't buy what they're selling.

Atheism does not say where I should invest my ideological currency within the marketplace of ideas, only where I rationally and honestly do not.

So no, it is NOT a belief, but a lack thereof. Just like not collecting stamps isn't a hobby. It has nothing to do with the big bang theory.

    Makes perfect sense.

  • The rights of an individual to practice their faith ends where the rights of another to not be encroached upon begins. facebook .com / antitheists

  • @UKantitheist1 Exposure to God is not an encroachment.

  • Im sorry but i didnt find that funny:L im not religious but it was just his twatish face that put me off laughing:/

  • "my name is ridiculed among the nations because of you" the bible

  • @parkylondon Well said

  • equal with God does not mean IS God, I don't think the scripture I quoted equivocates. Things that are mystical in nature will always elude the most obvious interpretation.

  • @throatgorge2 Equal with God does not mean IS NOT God either. I would tend to lean toward the IS in my experience of the term equal.

    e·qual [ee-kwuhl] Show IPA adjective, noun, verb, e·qualed, e·qual·ing or ( especially British ) e·qualled, e·qual·ling.

    adjective

    1. as great as; the same as (often followed by to or with )

  • @injuncrest Does that mean men are women and women are men? Because men and women are equal. Does that mean black people are white people and white people are black people? Because black people and white people are equal. Wow, if you can't understand a simple concept like that, I don't know why I'm even bothering.

  • @throatgorge2 Though your attempt at being condescending here is a valiant one, I am afraid you just help to further my cause. Male, Female, Black and White are all equally "Man" just as The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit are all equally "God" .

  • @injuncrest Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don't have all the answers, to think that they do.

Anybody who tells you they know, they just know what happens when you die, I promise you they don't. How I can I be so sure? Because I don't know and they do not possess any mental powers I do not.

  • @lowcoststart You should put that in quotes since it comes straight from Religulous.

  • @throatgorge2 Also, you mention "I don't think the scripture I quoted equivocates". Exactly what scripture did you quote?

  • @injuncrest Luke : 18;19

  • @throatgorge2 Specifically what in Luke 18-19 are you referring to?

  • @injuncrest I believe I already posted the verse. Screw this, I'm going to debate an atheist-- they're invariably much more intelligent than Christians

  • @throatgorge2 If you meant Luke 18:19 and you expect to debate it intelligently, then you probably should have started with noting the verse properly first. Basically, you have no debate, and moreover, you lack the fundamental ability to properly quote a verse. Additionally, your concurrent argument about the term "equal" lacks clear thinking and is baseless. Retreat into the darkness where you belong creature!

  • @injuncrest (eyes glow red as he hisses) We will meet again, Christian! and next time I shall have your souuuullll! (dissapears in a cloud of burning sulfur)

  • @throatgorge2 Faith means making a virtue out of not thinking. It's nothing to brag about. And those who preach faith and enable and elevate it are intellectual slave holders, keeping mankind in a bondage to fantasy and nonsense that has spawned and justified so much lunacy and destruction.

    Maher

  • @throatgorge2 you should probably check again - Just in John chapter 5 alone, Jesus makes 6 claims to equality with God: He is equal with God in his person (vv. 17-18); he is equal with God in his works (vv. 19-20); he is equal with God in his power and sovereignty (v. 21); he is equal with God in his judgment (vv.22, 27); he is equal with God in his honor (v. 23); and he has resurrection power (vv. 25-26)!

  • The "Christians" he is talking about here are apparently all Christians but Martin Luther King... his rhetoric basically lumps all Christians together and blames us for all war, torture and hypocrasy while in the same breath he mocks our God Jesus Christ. Anyone who would approve this sort of bigoted hate speech as appropriate needs to have their head examined.

  • @injuncrest who the fuck is "our God Jesus Christ"? Last time I checked He was the Son of God, not God himself. The trinity, which defines Christ as "God the Son" is church doctrine, not biblical scripture. Jesus Himself notes the destinction himself in this passage "And Jesus said unto him, Why call me good? none is good, except one, that is, God." While I agree with the gist of what you are saying, there are just as many atheists and agnostics of MLK's caliber.

  • I thought of going to church today to worship the repackaged Tamuuz, son of Ishtar, never got around to it though, oh tsk!

  • Ok...I officially love Bill Maher now!

  • Bill Maher has so many misconceptions about Christianity. First and foremost, Can someone please explain to him that CATHOLICISM IS NOT CHRISTIANITY!

  • @3VOLution3NO Is that all you got from this video? That makes me sad :(.

  • @MandyBuglet

wars, hatred, murders, judgement and condemnation of others. These are NOT Christian nor Biblical; they go against everything Jesus taught, yet we see the Priests and Churches carrying them out in great fashion. Why? because very sick, sociopathic people got ahold of the Bible and used it for political power. The Vatican and Jesuits. In no way shape or form do they represent Christianity. And Maher here, is falling right for their deceptions.

  • @3VOLution3NO I really appreciate reading your comments. You put everything I think into words! You are absolutely correct. To be Christian is to be Christlike. When Jesus was on the cross and the Roman Solider stabbed him with the spear, Jesus did not hate that man, rather he FORGAVE him. Christians these days are the first to tell you what they hate! Thats not being Christian, thats following the Orthodox and calling yourself one. Anybody can do that....

  • @CanEHdianRocker

Exactly. You have eyes to see and ears to hear unlike most. Realize the difference between Religion and Jesus. Religion is what sought to kill Him when He healed a man on the Sabbath. Just as today, as it was back then, religion is a way to control and manipulate. Precisely why Jesus rebuked the Scribes and Pharisees, calling them HYPOCRITES, a 'Den of Vipers', "Ye are of your father the DEVIL" [John 8:44 KJV] God bless.

  • @3VOLution3NO I'm so thankful you and I are friends. :)

  • If you haters are so Godamned Fucking Christian why don't you just forgive Bill for this?

  • Bill Maher,

Yes indeed, there are MANY Christians who are non-Christians. I have an idea; why don't you find some real Christians and have them on your show to show the pretend Christians what a real Christian is like ? Come on ! I know you can do it !!!!! I triple-dog-dare you !

  • @paula13914 Did he not mention Martin Luther King Jr. as a real Christian in the beginning of the monlogue?

Or do by 'real Christian' do you mean White, Anglo-Saxon Protestant Southerners?

  • @paula13914 EXACTLY!!

  • @paula13914

Good idea. Maybe, we'd stop a lot of this neglect, discrimination, distruction, and pollution masked as protecting America's " Values " that some of us are embracing.

    - Dwight

  • @paula13914 There's only like 4 of 'em, and they're off stopping wars and doing other important stuff.

  • @paula13914

That's a nice no true scottsman you have there. FYI, Bill Maher probably knows that he is talking bullshit. The christ of the bible was an evil dick - any objective reader of the bible can easily see why. Maher is probably sacrificing this fact so he can slap on the wrists of american christians and make them think and live a bit better life.

  • Is it weird that as a Christian I kind of like Bill Maher? It's kind of like that girl that's really not hot at all but you're still sort of attracted to her in some weird way and you can't explain it. Even thought I agree with almost nothing that he says, and I don't know where he gets his statistics from, and he constantly generalizes religious people from the examples of a few extremists. I like him. I really can't explain why. He's amusing in a very strange sort of way.

  • @dan25pim Hey Dan, I dont think its weird at all. He is funny. And maybe his generalizations are more than defining a few extremists. I have know a few very wonderful Christians and whole churches (some with thousands in the crowd and all whooping when something judgmental and hateful is said) and I find that what he just said on this video is my average experience of a Christian, to include within my family and a school I went to when I was a teen. : )

  • Comment removed

  • @dan25pim It's called the "Claudia Black" effect :)

  • @dan25pim If you belonged to a political party or a social club that was tied to as much bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, violence and sheer ignorance as religion is, you'd resign in protest. To do otherwise is to be an enabler, a Mafia wife.

    Maher

  • such a hypocrite

  • Evangelical christians practice torture more than any other religion??? What?? It ain't christians that are sawing off people's heads with butcher knives.

  • I can't believe it the legenf

  • 2:44 -Over and over and over again. I love it!

  • Hey Bill, if you think what Obama did was wrong by killing Osama from a Christian standpoint, you should read Romans 13:4 from the bible. It says: "For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." As you can see from this verse, the bible DOES grant governments the right to punish evildoers for their acts, regardless of how you see it.

  • @pcalum58 That passage gives governments the right to punish evildoers? For real? Try reading what your typing. He meaning one person...is the servant of God, does not in any way mean that Government meaning a group of people is given the right in a Biblical sense to do anything. This is exactly why there are so many religious sects. Biblical interpretation is a bitch! And this is in no way what that passage meant...and is complete contradiction merciful God we are all told about...

  • @texfb30 Actually, God is a vengeful God as well, and that comes out in verses like this one. And I DID read what I typed. People like Bill Maher are completely wrong if they think that part of being Christian is being against killing anyone is way off base. Yes, Jesus was against it, but Christians answer to God as well, and there are many instances in the Bible where God commands people to be killed for wrongdoings.

  • @pcalum58 Obama is God's servant?

    Uhm, ok . . . .

  • @Quentinforcouncil

    No, Bush was God's servant.

  • I don't like bill Maher, he's too arrogant. Even though he's hilarious, and I agree with him.

  • @Joseph24300 This just proves the entire point of the video. Thank you for this glorious comment.

  • @Joseph24300 Your grammar and spelling is horrible....

  • @Joseph24300 Please be a troll. For the sake of humanity, please...

  • @Dafluffy1 If you look at his YouTube comments you'll see that he is. People responding to him are giving him exactly the satisfaction that he wants.

  • @Joseph24300 I don't think that by being an atheist can ever make you become someone named Jude... I think Judement only happens after a surgery.

  • @Joseph24300 If Judement has anything to do with the fine piece of ass that is Jude Law, sign me up!!

  • @Joseph24300 It's good to have people like you posting hateful, passive-aggressive drivel of this sort. If not for you and your ilk, I'd have one less thing to set my watch to.

  • @Joseph24300: You just proved Maher right, genius.

  • low

  • @stackshotbillie- view opposite yours make people "shit" that's not Christlike but from my experience its very Christian of you

  • “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.” Gandhi

  • @parkylondon my favorite alltime Gandhi quote

  • @parkylondon wise words said by a man who was constantly persecuted and taunted by christians. if jesus christ was alive, i reckon he'd spit in the face of about 60% of modern-day christians.

  • @parkylondon "When intelligence fails, quotes suffice" - Oscar Wilde. Hehe.

  • @parkylondon If he hates Christians than he too hates Christ. Whatever is done to the body of Christ(Christians) is also done to Christ.

  • @saved03

He doesn't hate Christians, he hates hypocrites.

  • @saved03 He doesn't reason like that because that's typically religious "logic". So no, he doesn't, I honestly think he has better things to do than hate any particular group. Also he's clearly not mocking ALL Christians, only the hypocrites.

  • @CompletlyBunned I'm not saying that there are no hypocrites in Christianity but by allowing a few hypocrates to influence an opinion of the whole is an act of self righteousness, I'm better than you attitude. Hey we(humans) are all hypocrates one way or another. This is why we all need a Savior. I'm a hypocrite myself. However this only shows the weakness I have, not the Lord's.

  • Tolerence of intolerence is cowardice.

  • @Uberhippo24 who said that?

  • @dontbugit Ayaan Hirsi Ali

  • Luke 19:27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them here and kill them in front of me.'

jesus was kind of a dick just like yahweh

  • @th3villain You know those words are of a character from one of the Jesus' parables, do you? Is Stephanie Meyer a male vampire just because she wrote about some sparkly dude saying that?

  • @th3villain Funny...maybe because they are the same person, or character whichever you may see it to be.

  • @th3villain If you cannot see that Jesus was telling a story, and the character spoke those words, you are an idiot.

  • It may not be very Christian of me to say but Bill Maher is a real piece of shit.

  • @stackshotbillie

    For pointing out the truth?

  • @stackshotbillie I will eat my own liver if you manage to bring a counter-argument to anything he just said.

You cannot, thus you have no idea what you're talking about.

Oh, and furthermore, you can all go fuck yourselves!

  • Comment removed

  • @stackshotbillie Refute anything he just said without resorting to name-calling like you just did.

  • @stackshotbillie As shown in your post, he has a point.

  • As a Texan I greatly enjoyed the last sentence. And the rest too, of course.

  • people need to get over the criticism of religions. why is that the only taboo subject? all other beliefs you hold in life are open to be inspected and you can ultimately be judged on them. why not your belief in an ancient book written by men, ignorant of the world they lived in? christians better get used to it, you will never see another time where you won't be ridiculed for your harmful belief system.

  • Who is the woman at 2:20 ?

  • Bill Maher is delightful! :)

  • "Ghandi was so F***ing Christian he was Hindu"--Really? Maher should go to India and see how Hindus treat their poor. They wallow in filth while the Brahmins ride over them in their Mercedes. He makes a lot of sense with domestic economic issues. But he is so shallow in his opinions about the larger world.

  • @Pharoah7400 sounds kinds like all the followers of mother Teresa eh? Her followers were extremely sick and poor. Taken care of horribly because they were supposed to just "pray" to get better. And mother Teresa had over 50 million dollars...

Sounds about the same to me.

  • @Pharoah7400 He's an idiot

  • Christians, i.e., true believers are not perfect; they are saved. But if they are saved they have repented, which means they have turned away from sin. Do they continue to sin? Sometimes, because on this earth we are still in the natural body and human. But we continually try to follow Christ and do as He commanded. Investigate the Truth for yourself. Read the Bible. You will be amazed - and hopefully convicted. We are saved by grace, "Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:9)

  • @ilovecanines Read it. Wasn't convinced. No too difficult to understand really. So now what?

  • @ilovecanines: You're great at cherry-picking scripture quotes, but your listening skills are incredibly poor. He wasn't mocking Christ. He was mocking those who falsely claim to follow Christ.

  • Comment removed

  • Right on Bill! Fuck the people who are offended by this video!

  • Those opposed to religious harm come join us over at facebook/antitheists (theists, no need to trouble yourselves, thanks all the same)

The rights of an individual to practice their faith, ends where the rights of another to not be encroached upon begin.

Live and let live, until it harms others.

  • Talk about haters. Bill would like us all to just sit idle, and die while evil people take over. It is not wrong to want to protect our families and friends from Muslim extremists. Wake up! They do not preach peace, because they don't believe in it. The majority of Muslims do believe in it. The majority don’t like Shariah law. I am happy that we are still strong enough to take up arms, to defend our way of life, and our freedom to believe in whatever we choose. There is nothing wrong with that.

  • @cinemaloon Ofcourse you can view others as evil and bomb the shit out of them. But then don't call yourself christian. Because as Bill points out, Jesus taught you otherwise.

And you really have to question who the aggressors are and who are simply defending their country against invaders. From their point of view, the invading army are the evil ones. And what you call terrorists, they call freedom fighters.

  • @cinemaloon you are an idiot. Bill Maher agrees we should kick terrorist butt, and he was all for Osama getting assassinated. He just says you can't claim you are a Christian and feel that way. And he's right. It is completely antithetical to Jesus' teachings.

  • @bensigwarth1

Careful, antithetical is a prett big word for most youtubers.

  • Why can't we have a president who thinks like Maher?

  • Christianity should've never become mainstream via Constantine. It's politics that was used to crucify Christ.

  • He is a (Jew) OK" what do they say about gays in there HolyBook Israel-Jews,-what about the Palestine crimes on these peoples /Islam-Muslim-extremist Muslims will kill anyone that are none Muslim and other Muslim if they do not agree with them. (by the bus load). So the world will always be this way ,We fight for( freedom) we then have more than most of the people in the world.

  • I'm an agnostic, but I think Maher has some serious issues if he spends so much time trying to discredit the majority who are never going to change or go away. The question must be asked, what's his malfunction? Give it a rest,

  • @probrojeffro ignorant statement is ignorant. Keep trying to tell people that they can't change the world or people by discussing important topics. That's a great way to think.

  • @probrojeffro This isn't just directed to Evangelicals. He got me interested in agnosticism and atheism by doing what he does. Eventually I gave up religion all together.

  • "its in that book you hold up when you scream at gay people." hahahaha

  • It pains me to admit, but the man speaks the truth. If you dont follow Christ in his word how can you follow him at all?

  • This AMAZING!!!! (I'm one of the rare ones that CAN call themselves a Christian and not be lying)

  • There's a really good book that I'd like to recommend that might help put Bill's sermon into perspective. It's called "The Body" by Chuck Colson. Not a difficult read and highly informative.

  • Screw You, I'm buying Space Lasers!

  • Logic, FTW

  • This 'monologue' is focused on the hypocrisies that are committed by people who claim to be a 'follower of Christ' and at the same time ignore most, if not all, of his teachings. These people might be 'fans' of Christ and his teachings, but they certainly can't call themselves 'Christians', which is a term reserved for 'followers of Christ'.

  • so true. i wish everybody thought like Bill Maher

  • I'm a Christian. And I agree with a lot of these points.

But by saying "CHRISTIANS" miss the point he's being as ridiculous as anyone who says "all black people love fried chicken" or all "Chinese people are good at mathematics".

Stereotypical categorization, not even based on the majority, but instead based on the ridiculous, idiotic, Wesboro Baptist church and the likes.

I'm so sick and tired people base their opinion of an entire religion on a few idiotic zealots.

  • @b15h0p The problem is that too many Churches are doing some of the things he says - such as sceaming at gay people or treating non-Christians as inferiors - without being condemned by "mainstream" Churches. Mainstream Churches' silence is complicity. And I'm a Christian too ;)

  • @Etudianteindigne i agree completely. but im just pointing out that it's ridiculous to say we're all like that

@CroneGrimalkin i never said i condoned pesecution of other faiths or agreed with it. does the fact that other people have been persecuted in the past make it ok to persecute christians today? i dont think so.

  • @b15h0p So then...now you know how so many other people who belong to other religions feel & have felt for centuries. Can we all spell "persecuted"????!

  • maher bullshit nailed by christian: maher provides a good critique of some christians (a little much at times) and states some key parts of Jesus' teaching (also a little much at times haha) but he leaves out other key parts which are what those people are trying to respond to (sometimes in the wrong way); such as homosexuality and abortion. I do kind of agree with him on Osama. It's not as easy as Maher puts it out in his critique tho. "the way is hard and few are those who take it"

  • This implies that the real teachings of Christianity are good. To be a real Christian you must hate gays, treat women as servants, preach to everyone who is not a christian, stone your children to death if they are disobedient, tell children they are sinful and wicked and many more lovely things like that.

  • My brother ran over & killed a 12YO boy 10yrs ago, but escaped prosecution DESPITE having drunk what he estimates was “10-12 strong beers” that afternoon.

Police breathalysed him, but the machine must have been broken because it showed him being totally clean! They accepted his story of the boy ‘stupidly’ running out into the road & that was that. He puts the incident down to prayer- “GOD provided that breath-test result- HIS WILL protected me!”

Makes me think of becoming a Christian myself!

  • How do you explain the book of Genesis, with the Catholic church embracing evolution as one of God's greatest works? They shamelessly hijack anything in light of such overwhelming evidence and have done since the 1950's. Does the Catholic church promote this "fact?"

    No.

So at best it's apocryphal, begging the question, just how much else of it is only apocryphal, fairy tales. Believing in talking snakes, virgin births and creation stories the Pope himself denies, how much crazier can you get?

  • @UKantitheist1 Err... did you expect the bible to give a detailed account of evolution?

  • @UKantitheist1 If you had a bit of a brain you would know that you do not need to take the stories in the Bible for REAL. It's based on what's important to people. The Genesis is an Appeal to us to make the world a better world. Maybe it says And so was the everything made But that's not the centre of the whole story ( By the way you need to know that the stories in the Bible are PRE-science. In that time they thought the world was flat...)

  • @UKantitheist1 And one more thing, because some idiots read the Bible as a DAMN science book, you dont need to generalize it to the Catholic church. The people who read the Bible as real happened stories ( some of them are) are a minority in the Christian group ( almost all centered in the US). And yes the pope is an IDIOT and a retarded ass. Sorry for the people who like the pope, but it's true.

  • @UKantitheist1 They've been doing that since long before the 50's.

They've absorbed Saturnalia as Christmas, the Ishtar/Eastre festivals as Easter, many festivals for pagan gods as Saints' Days etc, etc and preached every politician, lord and king from the pulpit because it was politically expedient to do so.

  • @UKantitheist1 If by "shamelessly hijack" you mean "accept scientific evidence in spite of backlash from your community." How can you chastise a group for being open-minded? Isn't that the exact opposite of what the anti-theism movement is about? Good for the Catholic church embracing evolution.

  • @Caspianthe10th you're blind if you can't see what the church is doing when it comes to science.

  • @ScopeSF Good posts, ScopeSF.

  • Are you sure you weren't called to be a Minister for Christ? As a Follower of Christ, I know and believe what you're pointing out here. Happy New Year, Bill!

  • Quick question, who the fuck are you to tell me what I am,or what I am not? Are you God? No, therefore your argument is invalid.

  • @owned2hell No, I believe the Bible would tell you that what you are or are not. He's just telling you what is in the Bible. :/

  • @emelton07 Everyone interperates the Bible differently, my friend. Someone can see it saying one thing and other might see it saying another thing. Its like reading a story book, people might see the blue curtains as the protagonists "sad" feeling, others might just say that the curtains were fucking blue.

  • @owned2hell How many different ways are there to interpret "Love thy enemy?"

  • @emelton07 Depends on what your definition of love and enemy is. Some people see love as in being nice to, which personally isn't my definition. Understand now?

  • I'm a Christian, even by his definition, and I agree with what he's saying. There is so much hypocrisy and lying among false Christians that it's no wonder people choose to be atheists. Christianity is a huge turnoff because of misrepresentatives, and this man is using satire to point these misrepresentations out. That's not to say all Christians are like that, but the problem is, NO Christian should be like that. So while I found some of his jokes mildly offensive, my props to him.

  • @ScopeSF its not possible to be a christian, thats why u guys only do it a hour a week, to be a hypocrite in christianity is basically to be a normal person in society.

  • @sprookafook The people who do it for "an hour a week," aren't Christians as God, or Christ for that matter, wants them to be. However, that doesn't mean people like that don't exist. What is impossible is to be a perfect human being, but what IS possible is to be someone who lives their life for Christ, purposefully avoiding worldly temptations, That's what I try to be, and that's what this man from this video says Christians really should be.

  • @ScopeSF YEAH! I'm not the only Christian who think like that too! Thank you for showing that we are NOT as crazy as the people he depicts.

  • @Etudianteindigne he did say MOST christians. not ALL christians.

  • crystal clear points.
