  • Thnks guysnape

  • is tht anupright? if so who makes it?

  • @MsCellobass It's an Ergo - look for ergoinstruments on google.

  • great work guy :)

  • Do you want to really learn how to play that instrument? Well if that is so, Buy the Simandl upright bass book and as Umberline says, DO NOT LOOK AT THE NECK EVER. That is a big mistake. Remember, you learn to play upright bass by ear and positions, not by looking your left hand behavior.

  • i wish i saw the body...and how mcuh did it cost?

  • sounds woody enough to me -- where can one get those except from the original manufacterer´s website?

  • awesome

  • Thanks!

  • very true, very true...

  • its gona be more dificult to relearn the techniq, look for a teacher. and start by dont watching the neck.

  • yeah your hand technique isn't all that great. It's weird that your electric upright sounds just like an electric. Maybe I'll think it over a bit more before I buy an electric upright.. I don't want to spend money on a sideways electric bass.

  • That is so cool

  • Thanks!

  • i think you should have bought a metronome before you bought that haha

  • It's an Epiphone Joe Pass model (I removed the scratchplate because it rattled). Nice guitar for the price, about the cheapest reasonable quality archtop going.

  • what is the name of the guitar in the middle?? just wondering

  • very nice.

It sounds like a 60's fender precision with flat wound strings. ala james jamerson. It looks like fun.

  • You're plucking your right hand with a very very wrong technique. You should point your index downwards.

  • Yes, captain obvious, thanks so much for that fantastic insight. He does state in the description and in the video itself that he is new to the double bass.

  • I think it was just a friendly advice, don't panic ducky°°

  • just never like the sound of an electric upright bass. that just me. if i wunt to play electric i will plug in my fender. and that is what an electric upright bass sounds like to me is a bass guitar. now my friends dad has a 1964 hofner and that thing sounds more like a stand up than most acoustic stand ups with pick ups. i can see why people like them so much. and it is louder than both of my active basses that have 18v preamps

  • I play electric bass guitar and I've been wanting to learn double bass. The sound of these things doesn't sound too far off from what an actual acoustic double bass sounds like, from what the video sounds like. How do these things compare in feel and sound playing it yourself?

  • Definitely easier to play than a real double bass, and a lot cheaper and easier to transport. You're not going to get a job in a symphony orchestra playing one of these but I think for rock music the sound is close enough. OK for jazz too if you're not playing at a professional level. The fingering and technique are very close to double bass, so I'd recommend one as a first step.

  • unless u set it up as acoustic on the amp rite ?:)

  • @guysnape : dunno, I'd go straight to the real deal, why take a "first step"?

If you want to practice on intonation you HAVE to use the bow anyway....

  • Yikes! I'm learning the acoustic bass, and after being accustomed to playing that, this looks like a skeleton! lol, nice job though.:)

  • I 've tried "the real thing" a few times, extremely hard work, my arm ached for days after the first time - this is a whole lot easier to play. Easier to get in the car too!

    Thanks for the kind words.

  • im 14 and i can play on a real double bass and my arm dosent hurt

  • Good for you, keep it up. Good bass players are always in demand, so leave the wii alone and keep practicing. You might want to work on the spelling though, in case the bass career doesn't work out. ;-)

  • i'm 15 and i'm playing a real double bass too. loads of fun, and a lot of hard work of course. but whenever concerts are right around the corner, i'm glad i practiced. haha!

  • good sound on the ergo. better than on his own website.

  • Thanks - I only used a cheap digital still camera to record it. It's going through a polytone minibrute. No preamp either, I think the polytone can cope with the low piezo signal without one.

  • sounds awesome :)

Can you play arco on it?

  • Thanks. I've never tried arco - my bass teacher thinks it won't work but there are sound samples of arco on the maker's web site. I've got enough to do learning to play pizzicato!

  • I wants it!!

  • Sounds good. What is the make? I can't make it out from the video.

  • Thanks. It's an Ergo, from the USA. Cost me 500 UKP on ebay, cheaper if you buy them over there.

  • wow that sounds sooo hawt!

  • Thanks!

  • how much does it cost?
