  • This time of year if the weather is cold the bass move deep. If the weather is nice they move much more shallow. They are easier to catch shallow. With the two locations they will be near current but not in the seams. They will hang in a lottle slower current. I find smallies on a drop of about 6 to 10 feet of water. I catch them on vertical rock drops right next to shore. I will drop the 3 inch senko right next to the vertical rock and walk down stream with the current as I shake the bait.

  • Hey roger, old youtube fan here again. Its february, and im itching to catch some smallmouth here on my local river. The air temperatures are in the 50s and sometimes low 60s, the river is a shallow one, a deep hole would be 8-10 feet. where should i be looking to find smallies in these conditions, and will my normal mid spring baits work as well in this early "spring like" weather? Your advice has ALWAYS helped me in the past, so id greatly appreciate your feed back. Thanks.

  • i see your throwing the stick bait.... my personal favorite!

  • the beautiful sound of I-84 in the background

    Roger

  • nice do you fish the umpqua i live in roseburg

  • @austinnale Yes I have fished that area. Lots of small mouth bass there!

    Roger

  • dropshot?

  • do the fish pck it up off the bottom and do you pop it like 8 time then let it sit for 10 seconds

  • most of the bass hit the lure as it is falling or resting on the bottom. I pull in the bass with the shaking of the lure then they hit it on the fall

  • cool video

  • great video i just cause a 2,5lb large-mouth using that same technique...you are good man thanks for the advice

  • love the ultra lites, make any kind of fishing just that much more fun

    Roger

  • 3 inch please try them you will thank me if you do!!!!!!

    Roger

  • heres a little hint for the pre-spawn.... instead of using the senko, try a hair jig ... 1/8 oz. in black... throw it and drag it verylowly on the bottom. smallies LOVE it... I've had 200 fish days on 'em.

  • what part of the columbia is this? where?

  • Around The Dalles Oregon

  • I do drag but almost never do the lift the rod - glide a senko. For me it is not nearly as productive. But in your hand it may work fine, but for me shaking is MUCH more productive.

    Thanks

    Roger

  • I do the same thing. I cast it out there and slowly retreive it with moderate shaking of the tip which makes the Senko dart from side to side. I normally fish the 4 inch in Purple with flakes or the 5 inch watermelon.

  • I fish senko type baits unlike >95% of the fishermen out there! I use weight when fishing senkos most of the time (depending on the waters depth). I also shake the senko and I have great results compared to fishing other methods. I also fish senkos many differant ways! Tezas, drop shot, split shot and wacky. I mostly fish the 3 inch senko for large mouth and small mouth bass. Small senko type bauts catch big bass!

  • Is that a senko type plastic you are using. How do you usually fish it? I cast it out let it drop, wait, then lift the rod tip, reel and repeat. What is the best approach?
