It's gotta be the airpressure that's created when he lifts off. When something moves really fast, pressure is probably created behind the object. Dunno, but it's what I think happens.

They are giving you visuals to the force of his jump, or punch, or his super speed Tridante is correct in saying it has to do with air pressure it just normally isn't visible, if he made the jump without it we wouldn't be treated to the amazing visual effects in the show....see in order for superman (Clark Kent) to speed, jump, or fly he has to gather gravitons (which we all have just not enough to control or make use of them) that is why being able to do what he does is impossible.

Great Video and Song Combination! Dishwalla's self-titled album (their fourth studio release) is just killer. Collide is just one of over a half dozen great songs on this 2005 album! I just hope that Smallville incorporates more of their powerful songs on next season's episodes.
