  • As much as John Green is hilarious the story at the end is what makes this video great.

  • Yea John Green and Maureen Johnson

  • How can my school have Mein Kampf and not some of these books… boggles my fr**king mind. look. censorship...

  • I freaking love Penguin authors.

  • I fucking love John green

  • The most annoying thing about the cencorship is that the books they are trying to ban are not crude awful books that instill radical ideas and cause turbulence. They're books that save lives.

  • Oh my god, the end. The tears just welled up!

  • I would've taken the whole box without even thinking about it.

  • I think that librarian wanted you to save the entire box. At least that what I'd have done.

  • @tharcblack That's what I was thinking. I would have just taken the entire thing and run off.

  • SARAH DESSEN I LOVE YOUR BOOKS D: WHO WOULD BAN??!!

  • I absolutely love what Heather had to say, and this is such a strong message about censorship, which is indeed absolute bullshit.

  • funny how basically all the books that i read seem to have been banned from libraries. this is why i'm broke.

  • Catcher in the Rye? CATCHER IN THE BLOODY RYE? Jesus Christ. Who would I be without Catcher in the Rye? Or without John Green, or Ellen Hopkins, or Laurie Halse Anderson, or Maureen Johnson, or half of these authors?

  • woah. that last story from that female author literally gave me goosebumps. It's things like this that make me want to be a librarian.

  • This is the first time I've seen what some of my favorite authors look like.

  • Anthony Horowitz omg.

  • The one thing I'd like to know about what people think about censorship is this: even if someone has opinions that agree with the KKK or the BNP or the Nazi's, should they be censored? When does censorship become acceptable because you don't believe in it?

  • @MarxMediaProductions never, if you don't believe in it you don't have to read it

  • Anthony Horrowitz and John Green :]

  • John Green:D

  • This is so very powerful and important. I've shared it everywhere I can think of, and I've asked other people to share it, too. Please, everyone, share it EVERYWHERE!

I am an Editor, and free speech matters to me.

  • Dave Barry, woo!

and when you think about it, banning a book can have the exact opposite effect. Once people know a book is being banned, they will automatically go out and read it to find out WHY it was banned. Happend to a teacher of mine when "Catcher in the Rye" was being challenged. Everyone read it in secret.

  • OMG John Green!!!! DFTBA

  • "To censor is cowardly. It is an act of denial and of fear."-Nina LaCour

I love this video. DOWN WTH CENSORSHIP!!!

  • JOHN GREEN. <3 dftba.

  • How can you bleep that? It's an anti-censorship thing!

  • "Censorship is like the common cold. It's common and...it...sucks." hahaha that was great

  • Man I had no idea so many awesome authors were at Penguin. Penguin FTW

  • John, you are my hero.

  • 3:02 3:39 4:16 John Green

  • Was anyone else surprised about how some of these authors look in real life?

  • I think Dave Barry had the most compelling argument of them all. WIN.

  • I love that Penguin is standing up against censorship, but I can't help but wonder why they support SOPA.

  • 3:39 for John Green!

  • I LOVE FEED! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS!!

  • OH LOOK HI DAVE. LAURIE.

    JUST. LOVE ALL THE AUTHORS.

  • AUNTIE HEATHER! JOHN! MAUREEN! SARAH DESSEN! MY ROLE MODELS! YOU GO!

  • John has lost the ability to blink in front of a camera.

  • JOHN GREEN AND NINA LACOUR WHOOOOOOOO

  • 1 dislike. HOW CAN YOU LIKE CENSORSHIP?

  • good on em for doing this, haha, this is so SO true :D you cant censor what someone wants to share with the world. Represent :P

  • That awesome moment where I've met and communicated with about four of these people. :D

  • This isn't just about banned books, it's about that bill that could get passed in censoring media on the web in America. The NDAA/SOPA/IP bill(s), which could get passed this Wednesday! The government can send you to jail for up to 5 years if you post a video from youtube onto facebook or twitter or other social websites. They can ban sites as big as twitter and facebook if they fringe on too many copyrights. Everyone needs to get involved and stand up against being censored altogether!

  • Sarah Dessen and Maureen Johnson made me happy. So did Laurie Halse Anderson. Not to whine, but you know who else would've made this video awesome? Judy Blume. I grew up with her books.

  • 3:40 and THAT is why John Green is my favorite author

  • Anthony horowitz and john green omg

  • Haha, oh John.

  • my library does the same thing, but only most of the books are just outdated history information and not "banned books". but they take old books and put them in a cart outside the library for kids to take. I've gotten some good ones (Go Ask Alice, Elements of Style, and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe to name a few) but a crowd forms and there's other kids. once the library makes room they can buy more books and get copies of popular novels (like Harry Potter and such).

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

  • I agree censorship is a bunch of bullshit. Also the only ones I recognized were @maureenjohnson and @realjohngreen - DFTBA

  • @jcasey04 The only reason I clicked on this video was because @maureenjohnson was the thumbnail :) A video like this is fantastic both because of it's message and because of all the cool authors you can discover through it. Since you're a nerdfighter, I'm going to hazard a guess that you'll like TA Barron.

  • So, pretty much all my favourite authors are in this video. :D :D :D

  • John, you stole the show. Also Maureen.

  • 3:38 I can't stop.

  • Jay Asher, John Green, Maureen Johnson, Sarah Dessen, Lauren Myracle... oh my god, it's a bunch of my favorite authors all in one video! I love it.

  • I think censorship is a bunch of fucking bullshit, They bleeped that didn't they? How can you bleep that? It's an Anti Censorship thing, FOR GOD'S SAKES!

I love you, John Green (:

  • I love so many of these authors. :)

  • Censorship shouldn't even be an issue in America, seeing as we have FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Fuck all those people who decide what books people should and shouldn't read. Get off your high horses and actually read the books and you'll realize what amazing books these are and that no one should be denied reading them by any means.

  • @lyana57 yeah...people are stupid and want to protect their kids from "dangerous" stuff. Well, no one protects them in the real world!

  • hyprocrisy is fun too.

  • It's sorta strange hearing all their voices for once :P

  • Jay Asher: Censorship... Is sexy - not!

  • The only place I've heard of books being banned is America. Does anyone know other countries that have banned books?

  • My copy of "An Abundance of Katherines" by John Green is a kindle ebook copy, and it fugging says fug all the fugging time because obviously fug off is what the kids say. fug you, censors.

  • @TheSoundWritten Haven't you read the rest of the book? It's only those two who say it as an in joke referencing an author who when told his book has too many F-bombs replaced them all with fug.

  • @GaiashKetoji I'm still reading it! I just started it last month. Would be done by now but with finals I haven't had a chance to finish it. Good to know it just wasn't the ebook though. I have found numerous typos in the e-editions of things versus the print, so the change could have been possible.

  • ‎"Censorship is ******* ********.

    They bleeped that, didn't they?

What, how can you bleep that?

It's an anti-censorship thing!" -John Green

  • for easier googling: author names in order of appearance: Jacqueline Woodson, Anthony Horowitz, Lev Grossman, Carolyn Mackler, M.T. Anderson, Maureen Johnson, Sarah Dessen, Lauren Myracle, Heather Brewer, Ellen Hopkins, Nina LaCour, Meg Rosoff, T.A. Barron, Chris Crutcher, Rita Williams-Garcia, Dave Barry, Kathy Reichs, John Green, Laurie Halse Anderson, Jay Asher. :) DFTBA!

  • Meg Rosoff? Maureen Johnson? JOHN FU- GREEN :D

  • ELLEN HOPKINS WHATT

  • LEV GROSSMAN! JOHN GREEN! MAUREEN JOHNSON!

  • looking up all the authors I don't know right now.

When I saw MJ I screamed xD and Laurie Halse Anderson!!!!!

    #fangirlmoment

  • I noticed that John Green is the one that looks and sounds the most comfortable talking in front of a camera. gee, i wonder why that is?

  • Dear world, if you don't like a book, don't read it. Sincerely, common sense

  • Maureeeeeen.

  • YEAH JOHN GREEN

  • John Green stop making me love you...

  • Catcher in the Rye? Really? Who would ban that book? That has to be a joke. Nobody in their right mind would ban that book.

  • @WayhoRachel No it was banned for a long time.

  • @SeanIsViolence Where are these people so I can punch them in their faces!!

  • @WayhoRachel Running our country (well America, I have no idea where you are from).

  • Such a powerful video.

  • Amazing. I agree.

  • "I think censorship is a bunch of f**king bulls**t. They bleeped that didn't they? What? How could they bleep that? It's an anti-censorship thing. For God's sakes!" - John Green

  • All the authors that I did not recognize, I looked up on google. Mission accomplished, Penguin. <3

I'm getting some of Ellen Hopkins' books :3

  • "She was telling me to take one of those books."

TAKE THE BOX, TAKE THE BOX!

  • @BeingLolaStar I would have taken the box. And I would have made a little house for my cats with it. THEN I would read the books.

  • @BeingLolaStar Librarian turned around and went, "Dammit, what is she doing? I wanted her to take the whole thing!

  • So many of my favorite authors speaking out. Glad to see it.

  • This video is really powerful.

And I am completely in agreement with everything that is being said.

(But I just have to mention how attractive John Green is k thanks bye.)

  • The fact that these sorts of things exist and are even issues in this day and age baffles me.

  • "I think censorship is a bunch of ******* ********. They bleeped that didn't they? How can you bleep that? It is an anti censorship thing, for god sakes!" John Green= most awesome author

  • Why the fuck would you throw away "Catcher in the Rye" ? REALLY BITCH? REALLY?

  • I am proud to say that I went to a catholic school, and the majority of the required reading were on the banned books list. In fact they had a poster in the library of all the books that are commonly banned and all of them were in the library. I'm so grateful! :)

  • This is the kind of SHIT I live for. It is going on my top 5 most FUCKING inspirational things. Censorship is BULLSHIT. People are afraid that their children are going to grow up to think differently then they do. Oh my god it is a FUCKING epidemic - open mindedness.

  • Censorship is good when it SHOULD happen. Books should NEVER be censored. Free Speech matters to all of Nerdfighteria and it matters to me. World Suck increases with all of this bogus censoring and banning of books. Fuck censorship! And DFTBA!

  • @QueenMonkeyGirl the problem with this is that when you say there are times when it SHOULD happen you have to also think about the parameters for that. Freedom of speech means the ignorant and inflammatory get their say too. Who are we to censor them? We cannot ask for total of freedom of speech and then say it's okay sometimes to censor people. I'm not trying to be a douche here just saying that if we censor anyone because we believe they are wrong we can't get upset when they do the same to us

  • Some great authors right there. And so true! Gotta love that John Green!

  • FUCK CENSORSHIP

  • I had a feeling it was "Catcher in the Rye"

  • John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle in the one ad. People need to see this!

  • so... i would have taken the entire box of books from that library.

  • John Green and Maureen Johnson are fantastic.

  • Remarkable how Dave Barry can make his point so eloquently by saying absolutely nothing.

    Say it again, Dave!

  • ahhh John Green is such a winner. OHOHO and Jay Asher too.

  • So I feel like a total idiot, but with the exception of Kathy Reichs and Dave Barry I am not sure who most of these people are. Are they all YA authors? I know Reichs and Barry from their adult lit.

  • @cm1165 If you don't know who John Green is your life is missing something dearly!

  • Just plain amazing.

  • I watched this at like 7:30am on a Sunday. Laughed so loud at John Green's part that I woke my roommate up. Oops.

    Anyway...

We always used to have a poster of the top 100 banned books on our library wall. Guess which books I usually sought out?

  • Some of my favorite writers <3 They're right, censorship sucks.

  • OMG Lev Grossman, Jay Asher, John Green, Laurie Halse Anderson, Heather Brewer. AHHHH!

Loved Heather's story at the end. amazeballs.

  • Its like all my favorite people decieded to make an add about somthing i hate :) this is amazing

  • It's like all my idols got in a room and decided be awesome and and inspirational and hilarious as usual :)

  • "How can you bleep that? It's an anti-censorship thing for God's sake?!" I love you so much John Green

  • Maureen Johnson, Sarah Dessen, John Green and Lauria Halse Anderson? NO WAY IT'S NOT AMAZING. *watches video* Sometimes I'm so right, it hurts.

  • Go Heather Brewer! XD

  • "censorship is like the common cold. It's common and... it sucks" - so, this is going to be a t-shirt.
