The most annoying thing about the cencorship is that the books they are trying to ban are not crude awful books that instill radical ideas and cause turbulence. They're books that save lives.
Catcher in the Rye? CATCHER IN THE BLOODY RYE? Jesus Christ. Who would I be without Catcher in the Rye? Or without John Green, or Ellen Hopkins, or Laurie Halse Anderson, or Maureen Johnson, or half of these authors?
The one thing I'd like to know about what people think about censorship is this: even if someone has opinions that agree with the KKK or the BNP or the Nazi's, should they be censored? When does censorship become acceptable because you don't believe in it?
This is so very powerful and important. I've shared it everywhere I can think of, and I've asked other people to share it, too. Please, everyone, share it EVERYWHERE!
and when you think about it, banning a book can have the exact opposite effect. Once people know a book is being banned, they will automatically go out and read it to find out WHY it was banned. Happend to a teacher of mine when "Catcher in the Rye" was being challenged. Everyone read it in secret.
This isn't just about banned books, it's about that bill that could get passed in censoring media on the web in America. The NDAA/SOPA/IP bill(s), which could get passed this Wednesday! The government can send you to jail for up to 5 years if you post a video from youtube onto facebook or twitter or other social websites. They can ban sites as big as twitter and facebook if they fringe on too many copyrights. Everyone needs to get involved and stand up against being censored altogether!
Sarah Dessen and Maureen Johnson made me happy. So did Laurie Halse Anderson. Not to whine, but you know who else would've made this video awesome? Judy Blume. I grew up with her books.
my library does the same thing, but only most of the books are just outdated history information and not "banned books". but they take old books and put them in a cart outside the library for kids to take. I've gotten some good ones (Go Ask Alice, Elements of Style, and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe to name a few) but a crowd forms and there's other kids. once the library makes room they can buy more books and get copies of popular novels (like Harry Potter and such).
@jcasey04 The only reason I clicked on this video was because @maureenjohnson was the thumbnail :) A video like this is fantastic both because of it's message and because of all the cool authors you can discover through it. Since you're a nerdfighter, I'm going to hazard a guess that you'll like TA Barron.
I think censorship is a bunch of fucking bullshit, They bleeped that didn't they? How can you bleep that? It's an Anti Censorship thing, FOR GOD'S SAKES!
Censorship shouldn't even be an issue in America, seeing as we have FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Fuck all those people who decide what books people should and shouldn't read. Get off your high horses and actually read the books and you'll realize what amazing books these are and that no one should be denied reading them by any means.
My copy of "An Abundance of Katherines" by John Green is a kindle ebook copy, and it fugging says fug all the fugging time because obviously fug off is what the kids say. fug you, censors.
@TheSoundWritten Haven't you read the rest of the book? It's only those two who say it as an in joke referencing an author who when told his book has too many F-bombs replaced them all with fug.
@GaiashKetoji I'm still reading it! I just started it last month. Would be done by now but with finals I haven't had a chance to finish it. Good to know it just wasn't the ebook though. I have found numerous typos in the e-editions of things versus the print, so the change could have been possible.
for easier googling: author names in order of appearance: Jacqueline Woodson, Anthony Horowitz, Lev Grossman, Carolyn Mackler, M.T. Anderson, Maureen Johnson, Sarah Dessen, Lauren Myracle, Heather Brewer, Ellen Hopkins, Nina LaCour, Meg Rosoff, T.A. Barron, Chris Crutcher, Rita Williams-Garcia, Dave Barry, Kathy Reichs, John Green, Laurie Halse Anderson, Jay Asher. :) DFTBA!

"I think censorship is a bunch of ******* ********. They bleeped that didn't they? How can you bleep that? It is an anti censorship thing, for god sakes!" John Green= most awesome author
I am proud to say that I went to a catholic school, and the majority of the required reading were on the banned books list. In fact they had a poster in the library of all the books that are commonly banned and all of them were in the library. I'm so grateful! :)
This is the kind of SHIT I live for. It is going on my top 5 most FUCKING inspirational things. Censorship is BULLSHIT. People are afraid that their children are going to grow up to think differently then they do. Oh my god it is a FUCKING epidemic - open mindedness.
Censorship is good when it SHOULD happen. Books should NEVER be censored. Free Speech matters to all of Nerdfighteria and it matters to me. World Suck increases with all of this bogus censoring and banning of books. Fuck censorship! And DFTBA!
@QueenMonkeyGirl the problem with this is that when you say there are times when it SHOULD happen you have to also think about the parameters for that. Freedom of speech means the ignorant and inflammatory get their say too. Who are we to censor them? We cannot ask for total of freedom of speech and then say it's okay sometimes to censor people. I'm not trying to be a douche here just saying that if we censor anyone because we believe they are wrong we can't get upset when they do the same to us
So I feel like a total idiot, but with the exception of Kathy Reichs and Dave Barry I am not sure who most of these people are. Are they all YA authors? I know Reichs and Barry from their adult lit.
