  • 44 years ago? NO its sbout 32 isnt it?

  • Yep! Three CS-80s on one stage! That's over 600lbs of synthesizers!

  • foxx were jumping onthe bandwagon.. shit

  • WTMF! three cs80s, in this times it`ll be the most expensive live performing ever

  • @buginene Adjusted for inflation, it still might be the most expensive instrumental set up today, lol.

  • what the fuck is a skellington ? ... the standards of the modern education system ?

  • totp2 is a fine place for steve wright... he probly doesn't write the stuff he says and it's meant to be a fun show... I doubt John Foxx cares a jot.

  • I think any appearance by john foxx (where this song is played), ought to have a crowd chant

of *Underpants* before it starts... His 2010 performance with the maths sees him change the word p-ass to p-arse... which is not a Northern England phrasing of the word... Underpants!

I enjoyed this... I only ever saw him on totp playing *europe, after the rain* and his song on 20th century Box

  • A mate of mine sang UNDERPANTS! at the chorus and since then I can't get that out of my head each time I hear this amazing tune. Even if it was UNDERPANTS I would still like this track a lot. sorry if you now can hear UNDERPANTS too ;0)

  • @MrUAV100 The same thing happened to me when my dad thought that too :-/

  • JOHN FOXX the god of synths

  • Gotta check this song out so unique best synth tune?

  • Steve Wright makes Noel Edmonds look like Bill Hicks.

  • @diskochimp haha! Steve Wright was fine as the voice of silly *blokes* and not a bad voiceover guy - at least Bill St. Hicks never needed a bungee cord to have someone killed.

He'd have been more skillful than that :)

  • 3 x cs80s in 1 place !!!.. thats a religious experience... wether they were used in what your hearing or not ;)

  • @marcmitchell He use ARP Oddesey for the main sounds of the album and that is what the nice lead sound is from. The is something on YouTube called Synth Britanis and has all the synthpop starts taling about equipment, Vince Clarke, John Fox, Daniel Miller (Mute Records) are all on there.

  • @MrUAV100 yes i know dude, thats why i used the words "wether they were used in what your hearing or not ;)" its that very fact that makes it even more amazing that 3 cs80s are in the 1 space.. yeah got synth Britannia.. awesome vid, click click drone :)

  • Polymoog 203a + Yamaha CS-80 synthesizers... WICKED!!!

  • SO 1980s!!! THIS IS SO 20TH & 21ST CENT. way ahead of its time, and that includes today.

D.Js know how to talk, Stupid

  • Yamaha CS-80!!!! Three of 'em!!!!

  • I love the way the keyboardists gesture like they're snapping during the "click, click" part. It looks really cool.

Also love that Foxx was trying to sound "retro modern." That was such a trend at the time, to try to revive 1950s and 60s ideas of what the future would be like.

  • Che bello na volta quando a Top of the Pops c'erano ste canzoni! non ora che è uno schifo! la musica commerciale di oggi è a solo scopo di lucro, senza qualità, che schifo!

  • Steve Wright is not funny.

Steve Wright is fat as fuck unlike John Foxx.

Steve Wright is so uncool because of all the fatty food's and rent boys cum warming the fat 4 eyed massive belly unlike John Foxx.

Steve Wright shouldn't be a DJ if he doesn't know a good fucking tune if it whooped the 4 eyed fat twat of the knob in the mouth and ass as the same time.

  • steve right is the lifeless cunt of a voice over...

going left to right..eddie maelov @ sunshine patterson, anyone know who the other fella is?.

  • Did it get to number 2?

that's great - it still sounds fresh and untouchable, here 31 years (?!!!) later......

  • @morkygorky It got to 31!! Shameful!!

  • @martynpank - OK, Thanks! I did seem to remember it wasn't that big a hit....it should have got to no 1!! :-D

  • @morkygorky Indeed!

  • Sheer genius, solo or in Ultavox, or in anything else.

  • It was the mindset of the time...punk had shocked the glam and progressive rock dominated scene and now it was thought (I got the same stick when I got my first moog) that these machines played themselves and all you had to do was stand there and look like a prick. Far from the truth!! Compared to today, the work you had ot put into making an electronic record was huge...believe me, I tried :)

  • I saw this guy at Rock City Nottingham a few years ago. He was on before the human league, and I remember thinking, this guy is 1000x better than the human league!

Proper tallent, way ahead of his time and in a totally different league to the usual totp/xfactor nonsense!

  • @xesionprince I have to give Human League a lot of credit for Being Boiled though I LOVE love that song.

  • great song.

  • great footage aside from that knob discjockey swright

  • "Is this some lifeless skellington?"

No it's Steve Wright being a cunt

    This song is art <3

  • @furyplum44 thanks! xD I would never understand what he was saying.

  • @furyplum44 classic

  • "UNDERPANTS!"

  • Such a good song, too good ;)

  • I wish totp today will look like this

  • Oh shut up Wrighty you smarmy old git! This is pioneering stuff!

  • great :-)

  • He was better in Ultravox !

  • Fantastic artist. I much preferred it when John used his his vocals more. He had a fantastic voice.

  • Oohh f**k two CS80's in one room. I've died and gone to heaven.

  • @EdWood2006 ...... I counted 3 at the end, a CS-80 just sold on ebay for £10,000! madness!

  • @regybear CS 80 for 10 grand?????? Bloody hell, they have held thire price and even increased it. They were rrp £4500, back in 78 which would be about £8 - 9000 today.

    I once had a CS 60, and still own a CS 30L

  • @regybear Oohh Mr Foxx you are really spoiling us!!!

  • @regybear

3 CS-80s! I thought he used a lot of Poly Moog's on the record. My guess is Yamaha did this for advertising placement because of the lip synching.

  • Ha ha, underpants. That still makes me laugh.

Excellent song though. I always thought this was by Gary Numan so I've learned something new.

  • hey dont knock steve wright he's only having a laugh. All singers in the 80s were posers, it was poser decade!!!! To see John "not posing" check out Ultravox live 1976, now your talking!!!!

  • @jennytoop Remember glam rockers and some psychedelic rockers and some post punk men...and Sid Vicious...although many examples aren't bad...the problem is abuse, like (apologies 90% of the world!) Michael Jackson

  • Love John Foxx.

  • TOTP didn't allow live back then..

The CS 80s were not on the record. If they'd plugged them in and played them, it would have sounded wrong. Couldn't have used Polymoogs either, because Numan had already done that on TOTP.

  • i am a university student and the guy playing Synthesiser on the right is one of my lecturers he is a legend!

  • haha mine 2

    legend

  • Yeah cos in canada you have such a good pedigree of music....so you can comment on british music !!!!!!!!!

  • In all of europe, they just do too much lip-singing... but there are many interesting bands and musical creations.

  • @sweiland75 Canuck here too ... ya, not sure what was up with all the miming at the time. These shows should have let them play live, or at least did a better job making it look sorta live lol, nothing is even plugged in!

  • Oh lala!!! THREEEE CS-80's! .. haha about the cost of a huge house back then. Gorgeous synths, monster sounds!

  • Excellent, had no idea this made it onto TOTP...

  • UNDERPANTS!

  • Underpants!

  • Hahaha! I used to understand "underpants" too when i first heared this one.

Great song from a great album!

  • I'm not so sure about polymoog. It's been used in videoclips and playback appearances. But Foxx, in metamatic studio album played Arp odyssey, arp sequencer, elka rhapsody, roland jupiter 8, minimoog, electric bass, roland CR-78 drum machine, phaser, flanger. Nothing else.

Polymoog, cs80, micromoog...all of this different stuff appears only on videoclips, and maybe on post-metamatic albums.

  • Those synths are Yamaha Cs80's.

The track was originally made using Polymoog ,ARP Odyssey and Minimoog.

  • Hmm, methinks he was still using Arps and Moogs... Underpants!

  • Not exactly a fan of John Foxx, but that was really fucking cool. Anyone know what kind of synths their using?

  • possibly korg m3's

  • It looks like they are using three Yamaha CS-80 in this clip.

  • fuck me i want one

  • John Foxx = super cool

Steve Wright=fucking stupid outdated Radio 1 DJ prick fool

  • Spot on! Such a smug cock (Steve Wright that is!)

  • @DerVampyrEngel

Couldn't agree more. John Foxx is an absolute legend. Steve Wright utter cunt.

  • @ColumRogers Thanks mate :)

  • @DerVampyrEngel - I so totally agree !!

  • @drpoxy :)

  • @DerVampyrEngel steve wright is now eating his words, john foxx,,,gary numan ,,,steve who....

  • @emjay946 LOL Exactly :)

  • *****

  • If you haven't bought the album Metamatic by John Foxx, buy it now. It's incredible.

  • @ajs41 One of the best......Actually, as music is so subjective, I'll say, this is one of my fave albums....ever!!

  • Can anyone see what those synthesizers are? Looks like one would be fun to own.. :)

  • they are yamaha cs80's
