I just don't get your mix of legato and picking!!! I only wish I could!!!!
You're a perfect mix of the great personality's and playing of Rick Emmit and Yngwie Malmsteen! I love your phrasing man! You are my favorite guitar player ever!!!
I don't think people in general are ragging on Sam. There's an essential distinction between that and constructive criticism. If you look, the comments that received the most thumbs up are the ones containing the aforementioned criticism. No one will ever knock Sam's technical ability but I must say that I quite agree the solo's can become somewhat stale. Ex.....the ascending and decending speed licks all sound exactly the same. Again, I say this with all do respect.
You are not going to shake Sam with those comments. Talk is cheap. I don't see anyone showing Sam how to do it. I really like Sam's playing. I even have a few on my MP3 player. You know what they say...You can't please everyone so you got to please yourself. Rock on Sam!
I don't understand why people complain about hearing the same kinds of licks. Why would Malmsteen start playing jazz just to show everyone that he can do it or because he thought his fans were bored of him? I listen to Malmsteen, get bored of Malmsteen, then listen to Pat Methany, get bored of him, then listen to Malmsteen again and I know his playing will still be what it was before. I would have thought people would be happy that someone puts in the effort to maintain such a high level.
I think you're a great player, really, but I'm just kinda tired of your licks and soloing ability, it seems like you just can do the same thing over and over with a few changes. Not saying this to troll, cause you're a great player.
@daniloleal13 Here's my two pence on the subject, every guitar player has there trick bag and there own style. take my favourites; SRV always sounds like SRV, Yngwie has his own patterns and licks, Eric Johnson has his own distinctive sound. I have always tried to sound like me when improvising, I have lots of variations on all the patterns I do and I continue to write new variations. I put most of my day, everyday into my guitar playing and I will continue to because I love it.
@coulsonsam87 You're definitely right, I wasn't complaining about you. Just you make very little variations in you licks. You could make more licks that would eventually define yourself as a guitar player just like the ones you already do. Sometime you won't be able to have a lot of variations in the same base. Just try to get new patterns and pushing it to your own style but different than the other licks.
@coulsonsam87 WOW!!!!! seems like some people just like to "have a go at Sam!"
I have played the guitar for over 40 years now.... and have many influences, including Blackmore, Hendrix, Page, Beck, Moore, BB, Clapton, Gilmore, Gallagher, SRV, Vai, Malmsteen, etc, etc, etc.
They all have their styles and techniques and apply the very well.
We can often hear a few "licks"...... and say "yup.... thats Page!"
Sam is Sam, and he does this VERY well. I find his playing inspirational
@coulsonsam87 That's why I don't like Malmsteen although he's a great player and has some remarkable tunes. He's playing the same thing over and over again. As a listener I got tired of him pretty quick. Other players, like Vai, don't repeat themselves with such intensity and still have personality and a distinctive style. My opinion, of course.
@nunocarmona I think I'm the oposite of you. I never was into Malmsteem or any of the other shredders until I started listening to Sam. I was always someone into Led Zep, Pink Floyd, SRV, Hendrix and Joe B. Sam has brought it all together for me. He's my "Hard Rock Heavy Metal Blues Shredding Guitar Hero" now. I now appreciate the work of Malmsteem a lot more because he may not create my favorite songs to listen to but his techniques wow me now that I can see how they can be used differently.

@Thorbear632 Well, I guess if you asked everyone for an opinion of his playing you would get some response one way or another.
Just personal taste. Even Paul Gilbert through in his two cents about Sam's playing.

I think the time for attacking and insulting those people expressing boredom with Sam's playing is coming to an end, this is only a good thing.
