How does the UN measure the "informal sector" or underground economy? I know a lot of sidewalk vendors in my country that outwardly look like they're starving to death. When I found out they where earning close to & sometimes even more than a $100 /day selling streetfood, I was shocked. They were earning more than average salaried workers who are above the UN definition of poverty rate i.e. $2.00/day and they don't even pay taxes and yet a lot of them actually live in shanties.
