But...but...he's NOT like a grasshopper! If we disassemble him but don't make any changes to his software, he won't have any alterations to his consciousness. Turning him off would only put him to sleep, he'd be right back as soon as you compiled again. As long as they don't go altering his coding, he should be okay. I mean, he started using replacement parts later in the movie, right? And in the sequel he practically overhauled his entire body!
If you consider consciousness as a flow of information and electrical activity, you´ll have changes if you shut down the system. A Coma would be like a "sleep" state, low power consumption but the session is still on. Otherwise, you change the software during it´s processing routines. (Since he´s a learning machine, he doesn´t get everything from hardware, even though he needs it to function)
As for the spare body parts, it´s like any prosthetics today.
I think kids today mite appreciate this movie it's funny, a good laugh, yet an all around good family movie anybody who is a parent who knows this movie should sit down w/ their kid nd watch this movie
