  • It was actually Henry David Thoreau who built at house at Walden.

  • Some fun ones from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo include:

    Beekeeping

Frozen Dairy Products (yeah...that's ice cream class!)

    Bowling

    and Tractor Operations

  • I think I am in love... with evan edinger... or naveregnide... but I prefer to be able to pronounce his name...

  • My school offers this class called, and I kid you not, "Horse Production" yet we don't have a journalism class...?

  • hahahaha I live in Rochester, I'm at the U of R all the time, and I have never heard of that class...

  • Ralph Waldo Emerson wasn't the Walden guy; it was Henry David Thoreau. Easy mistake. Both of them are Transcendentalist authors with an ungodly amount of vowels in their names. But awesome video, anyway! <3

  • what do you think 'deep space probe means' I'll give you a hint:voyager 1 & 2 aren't one of them

  • he's like an american Charlie (O_o)

  • @MollieLikesYourFace I like to consider myself an American Evan Edinger

  • @naveregnide LOL

  • @naveregnide Don't take this the wrong way but you could never be an American Evan Edinger! Sorry if the truth hurts but someone has got to say it!

  • I live in Portland. Your comment made me happy.

  • I know lots of people who go to University of Rochester, and was actually considering it as a future college. Not so much anymore...

  • LOL u just totaly made me laugh new fan for sure ^_^

  • I was talking to my mother about this a while ago... and she told me she once took a class called "The History of Hell" at Arizona State... o.o I don't think they offer this class these days.

  • At my secondary school we did a subject called 'Learn to Learn' from year 7-8.

  • This is why I didn't go to a four year university.

    .

You get a FIVE star thumbs up for the way you say "everybody".

  • Those are the most awesome classes ever lol. But i've had a course about James Bond. It was called "bond and beyond"

  • American courses are /so cool/. England is boring. xD

  • i will move to wisconsin to take that class...even tho i already graduated...

  • charlieissocoollike ? wannabe...

  • I would fail the How To Walk class...

  • @kelver119 now you know that i am your friend but im sorry you have no right saying that you have never seen the movies but now i really really want to go to UWM now but sadly i cant get in to it :)

  • I'm glad to know that my states number one college teaches elvish :)

  • Heeey Evan, let's late the Elvish course and try to talk with Lord of The Rings fans on the languange!! -no, I'm kidding

  • @naveregnide how do you fell about bubblewrap? i have some in front of me right now and it's SO FUNNN!!!

  • lol "I LOVE PLANTS!". Haha, like Neville. xD *chuckles* Anyway, I just love the faces you make. :3

  • So I was scrolling through vlogbrothers videos, and I saw you were one of the top comments and I was just like

    WOAH.

    HEY.

    I'M SUBSCRIBED TO HIM.

  • kids must be pretty well groomed throughout school to end up paying for that shit.

  • Comment removed

  • hahahaha! thanks for recommending yourself to me

  • Cool electives, the college I go to sucks we have boring crap :)

  • Well there is a course at my university that is An Intro to the World of Harry Potter

  • @iJWalkerKennedy Are you serious that is freaken awesome. :)

  • @MARINA7OHSEVEN Yea I am serious hahahaha. Wish I could have gotten into it

  • @iJWalkerKennedy WOW, want to do this course from your university, haha.

  • First thank you for friend-ing me. LOVE this video. Second, do people in the getting dressed class show up naked on the first day?

  • Ohmygosh you like a bunch of bands I loveeeee <3 like RELIENT K!!! and Owl City!! ^_^

  • Wait, so for the required math class, you HAVE to take Calculus? Noooooo!

  • hahaha very nice :) I was covering my face at the weirder and weirder courses. It was like I was watching a horror movie :9

  • "Getting Dressed" If I had that course I would show up on the first day completely naked.

    Teacher: "Why aren't you dressed?"

Me: "You never taught me how yet"

  • Forensics may not seem like a weird elective, but it definitely feels like one when you're running around the school with blood covered paper looking for dust. :)

  • omigod... my college has elvish? *faint* i'm transferring out of state.... like... now... lmao!!!!! i can't believe we teach ELVISH! no... wait... it's wisonsin... of course we teach elvish!

  • omg you can take ELVISH in Wisconsin?? They don't teach any conlangs at Pitt...want to learn Esperanto with me, Evan? (And the look on your face describing PE for ME was priceless. Rather cute, actually.)

And for the sake of being someone else who noticed, Emerson was theory and Thoreau was practice.

  • I almost took a course called Sex in the City this semester.

  • Oh my gosh. I live in Wisconsin and I know a few people in the UW system. That is great cuz now I can tell them something fun about the school(s) :)

  • Lmao @ most of those especially how 2 watch tv and getting dressed

  • Street fighting mathematics made me think of the show Fight Science. Check it out: youtube.com/watch?v=gzviN135ZYQ

    ^_^

  • I saw some alien sex zombies downtown today. But they wasn't eating brains!

  • apart from your songs this is my fave vblog so far of yours :)

  • Stage Combat. Yes. For 3 credit hours you too can learn how make a fight look really good without getting (too) hurt. ((it was very fun))

  • this was pretty funny

you could be a successful vlogger if you stick with it for long enough

this vlogging style isn't completely different from the vlogbrothers who's videos are usually informative but about things that aren't exactly important or helpful and they are also hilarious while they do it

also there is a course called Cyberporn and Society at State University of New York at Buffalo

  • dude seriously, your videos put a smile on my face even if there is a video that makes no sense at all. thank you.

  • That's so funny I just thought it was the universities and colleges in Sweden who was good at inventing pointless courses. The big favorites for law students to make fun of is: Harry Potter knowledge at the Linné University. I have not taken anything strange course yet. But I'm thinking about drinking/beverage knowledge at the restaurant collage. Just to drink good wine and get paid for it.

  • Introduction to Africana Studies...

Yeah, it's in the course catalogue-- I checked.

    ALSO--

    Survey of Women Artists

    Parasitology (the study of parasites!!!!)

    US Literature of Latino Peoples

    Consumer Health Decisions

    Water Safety Instruction

  • Well, if this doesn't make me want to go to college I don't know what will!

  • HAHHAHAHAHAHAOHMYHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

    These are so--------oooooooocrazyoooooooo!!!!!

    LOL

  • =D Wow, I cant wait for college now.

  • At Anglia Ruskin (Cambridge, England) you can take a degree on the art of gambling, brewing and distilling, or older adult.... i don't actually know what the latter is,.... I just know that u learn HOW to be an old person =] and you thought your American education was weird

  • Well, I know that "Witchcraft, Magic and Occult Traditions" is a course at my uni - and apparently it's one of those classes that are easy to pass, but hard to get an A in.

  • I took Gangster Film this past spring. It was friggin awesome. AND it wasn't actually an elective; it counted toward my major because it was a film and lit course. Woot!! My two major papers were about gangster film iconography and the dichotomy between music and massacre. Um ... awesome?! :D

  • My freshman seminar course this year is Eloquent Creatures. It's a theatre course about animal voices, nature in literature, and children's theatre. As the final project, we're actually putting up plays that children in the community wrote, and I'm directing one about a monkey and a crocodile. Needless to say, I'm pumped.

  • i can honestly say I have taken a class called International Relations on an Intergalactic Level: Oedipus to Star Wars.....best year of my life :D

  • I kind of like the idea of the getting dressed class, mostly for those kids who had their parents pick out their clothes most of there life and therefore might be stumped when it comes to picking out appropriate clothing for an event. (I myself wouldn't need it but it might be a nice improvement to those who end up wearing the SAME outfit most of the time). Also underwater basket weaving is offered at UCSD my friend took it, it was one credit, and she got a certificate :D

  • Evans cheeky wink at 2:17.

  • i need to sigh up for elvish.. and all the others in the video..

  • I haven't taken it, but my high school has AP floral design.

  • This is very entertaining. My college doesn't have overly interesting classes, but there are things like racquetball, and I'm pretty sure there was a class about "Lost" once.

  • Whats the weirdest one at Rowan?!

  • @FrankieGK Probably advance puppetry 6... like what? People take 3 full years of puppetry!? Whaddayou wanna do for a living? Work on the set of lambchop!? #90sbaby

  • It wasn't a full course, but in my gym class, we played quidditch.

  • You're adorable, and I want to learn Elvish now D: I wish my college had crazy weird/pointless classes!

  • 0:17 HEY! YOU WINKED!

  • I think they were being sarcastic. You probably said "leave your comments in the section below", and the snarkily replied with "No. I am going to leave my comments in the section above."

  • Actually it was Thoreau wrote lived by Walden pond...

  • @ninja4beast I've been waiting for someone to notice, and I suppose you're the first! Hence it's a blooper :P Kinda sad no one else noticed though. Gotta love transcendentalism!

  • @naveregnide I did a report on Thoreau...I was gonna comment it but then i didnt cuz I saw that one...Smarticles!!

  • @naveregnide Well, the house Thoreau built on Walden Pond was on land owned by Emerson, so conceivably he could have wanted to build a house there.

  • I AM transferring to University of Wisconsin next year irl.

  • tell me where underwater basket weaving can get you in life?

  • @PuddingPerson713 it will help impress your mermaid lover

  • This is absolutely HILARIOUS! Great job :D

  • I can already knit. Win for me XD

  • You have now inspired me to bring up my gpa and go to MIT to take street fighting mathematics

  • I want to take Elvish! University of Wisconsin I come! Btw The phallus has actually played a large part in car structure :D I say take Acting Class, not theater. Best semester ever!

  • @banz224 He's already taking Acting!

  • Business Simulation ... I know it doesn't really sound funny, but in reality it's just a whole bunch of nonsense..

  • Fuck that, i'm putting my next comment on the side

  • Haha, I live in Wisconsin and plan to got to one of the UW schools.... Guess I'll be learning elvish and joining UW Green Bay's quidditch team... :)

  • @LyssaJuice423 I might possibly be joining the LARP type thing at UW green bay! Even though I know nothing about medieval times!

  • 1:43 LOL

  • LOL! Oh, At Emmerson, they have a quidditch team!

I wish colleges offered a course of the history of Disney. Hey, if there is a class on walking, why not Disney? It's interesting. :-)

  • I really liked this video :) it's one of your best

  • I dunno, if you saw some of the kids at my school, you'd question their abilities in both dressing themselves and proper sidewalk/staircase/dining hall line etiquette.

  • I'd totally take Extreme Literature if I had the option, but I'm too much of a sissy to move out of state for college... :/

  • Now I really want to take a plant and profit course...

  • @whipcreamonthefloor don't forget the pleasure! IT'S THE BEST PART!

  • 2:27 I can't take that class, I'm in a wheelchair XD

  • Ick! I'm a Lit major and even /I/ don't like Emerson! xD

  • @ennpencilpal91 Emerson and Thoreau are AWESOME... and EXTREME!

  • This video really made my day :')

  • Evan I think this is one of the best videos you've uploaded in a while. Whatever you did prior to filming it needs to become your pre-video ritual.

    .

You get a FIVE star thumbs up for plants.

  • @tripthe1 I had a video idea which grew into a story type video idea which grew into an even larger video idea. Tis a rare event! It happened when I made that video about my sleeping habits, and it also happened in the one with my nicknames. I get pretty lucky sometimes. Thanks!

  • You know, you should take the YouTube course and have fun with what the teacher doesn't know. I look forward to your vlogs about that.

  • wtf , like really? oh americans...

  • Weird Electives- the pharmacology of illicit drugs. . .yes, my school actually does teach this - Canadian Shakespeare Festival - Wine Tasting -Starbucks Drink Making -Kayaking the list goes on lol

  • If I went to Cornell, I would absolutely take tree climbing as a class.

  • Dude, so taking elvish when I get to college!

  • I was going to say how my school is offering a course about Harry Potter, James Bond, and Sherlock Holmes, but apparently half the colleges in America offer a class on Harry Potter....

  • @perpetuallyhyper101 and that's why I never brought it up! A lot of colleges teach Harry Potter!

  • OMG I would soooo go to extreme lit :DDD At Durham you can totally study Harry Potter and how it affects the society :D I sooooo want to go there *_* And Evan, this was the best video you've ever made, just thought I'd let you know :)

  • Central Washington University also has underwater basket weaving.

    ALSO

Eastern Washington University has offered a Harry Potter English course in the past.

  • I requested my school had an interpretive dance class, they're considering it.

  • I need one of those electives.. ANY!

  • My school offers a Harry Potter Literature class.

  • The ending made my day. I've taken no hilarious classes.

  • -puts comment in search bar-

  • We have a Harry Potter literature class at my college. They "study" the series and then go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the end of the semester.

  • i would totally take that elvish course!!!

  • I need to go to the University of Wisconsin! Alien sex....having just come from a Doctor Who convention, I thought of Captain Jack Harkness; which is why I would laugh all through that course if I ever took it.

  • I enjoy your vlogs so much :D

  • The audio was perfect. It made my ears sing. But then I started to laugh. Alien Sex!? I am sooooo going to take that :p and my friend took the art of walking, basically you walk 30 mins around campus, so hard.

  • This makes me want to go to college so badly! The weirdest class at my high school is probably Radio Board... and that's not even that weird...

  • Im taking Collaborative arts- Science Fiction films study. We watch movies and read stories. Its fun. I also took Western Intellectual traditions where we studied the bible and mythology. It was strange...

  • I hope extreme lit actually had a ! in its course name.

University in Australia doesn't really work like college over there. We have no fun/weird/crazy courses. Like literally... None.

  • LOL! "So what electives are you taking this year?" "oh ya know......the usual. French, theater and alien sex." I mean C'MON!!!!!!

  • ahahahaha this was so good! :D

  • So many crazy electives....SO LITTLE TIME.

I personally haven't taken any strange electives, but I think it is worth noting: on of my friends who graduated from highs school decided to go to college...and major in ultimate frisbee. So I'm assuming he took some strenuous courses to achieve that...

  • UofR teaches alien sex??? Just another reason Rochester is such an odd city

  • this semester I am taking Rock and Roll History. its such an awesome course. =)

  • i vote bowling or something super easy ;)

  • I'm so glad I live right next to the University of Wisconsin! xD

So If I do end up going there, I'm definitely taking Elvish.

  • i <3 owl city

  • i live in Oregon...so going to reed college

  • so what r u gunna TAKE D:

  • I'm going back to school just to learn to climb trees.

  • There is a comment section above. It's called the search bar. It just might not show up in your messages if we use it to comment..

  • I just love this vidd.

  • Oh god im from rochester.

Why do we always have the weird ones.

  • We offer Culture of Chocolate as a somewhat weird class.

  • youuu'ree soooo annoyyiinnggg!!!!!

  • this video was hilarious and encouraging seeing as how these kinds of courses are what i'm looking forward to the most in college :-)

  • This video was awesome evan!!

  • This was hilarious! Best video yet, Evan! ;)

  • BAHAHA the art of walking . hilarious video. i wana take tree climbing.

  • I finished my undergrad degree today, hooray! Would have been fun to have added a weird elective, but alas, they don't exist at my uni.

  • I need to take that tree climbing course! :( I can't climb trees well at all. Perhaps I should make it a goal in my life to learn how to climb a tree.....

  • I wish I could take weird courses :( But in England you can't, sure I could learn about David Beckham at certain places as my degree but with mine I can only take modules that relate to languages so I will be stuck learning the interesting facts of Europe instead.

  • I just took a course called "Media and the Spectacular" is turned out to be way less interesting that I had hoped.

  • Very funny video!

I took a lot of strange courses in college. The strangest was probably "Vampires in Literature" - it counted as one of my required English classes.

  • Wow, I went to a party school and we didn't even have any of those bs classes!

  • In my highschool they have P.E... online.

  • @ntcssj That's just sad :(

  • @ntcssj how is that even possible...?

  • @ntcssj I took Online P.E. in high school....

  • First of all, this vid was out of sync, but I managed to watch it. Unfortunatly my university does not offer wierd courses. We leave that for college, which here in quebec is b4 univ. So I've taken some: myths of the vampires, science fiction, and I know they offered comic book classes too. They hard some wierd courses there and they were pretty much easy and fun

  • @shadowbaghdig First off, no, it is most certainly not out of sync. Though I re-exported this video 3 times to correct trivial things no one would notice such as slight lighting changes and frames being uncentered, I know for a fact my video is in sync as that is the hardest thing to do and the first thing I do. Compared to my old audio around 7 or 8 videos ago, recording with my separate microphone is phenomenal.

    Good day to you sir.

  • @naveregnide Well i don't want to offend or anything but on many devices i see an out of sync, all other videos on youtube are okay. But the point of the comment was to point out the courses not to be insulted on

  • My two favorite classes I took in college were Science and Pseudoscience, where we debunked pseudoscience claims, and Tolkein Literature, where we read all of the books by J.R.R Tolkein (including The Silmarillion).

  • I'd love to take some of those courses you mentioned. :)

  • getting dressed with ur eyes closed makes u smarter!!!! this is actually true lol

  • You are so awesome! :)

  • My mom took sail-boating.....in a classroom.... I haven't taken anything interesting yet. How awkward would it be if you were a teacher of one of those classes! People would be like, "what do you do for a living?" And you'd have to say, "I teach college level alien sex." yeah......

  • my sister took folk dancing one year at college ... they taught her to waltz

  • Dear, even this video literally mad me DIE laughing. I was laughing so hard that i had to stop the video half way and start over again later. cause i was laughing to much and was in a library. JUST REMEMBER YOUR AWESOME!!

  • at irvine there is course were u learn superhero icons and stuff hahahah

  • your the best i am so glaad i found you
