Hey, on 2.46, what is that software used on the right screen? I've seen many composers use that, and I can't find it anywhere. It's sort of a video player i guess, but if every film composer use it, it must be made for that purpose only.
It's not about how good a composer you are, its about how good your score is given the time constraints an hectic environment. I don't know how these composers produce such quality score at will like that.
this was one of the greatest scores I've ever heard. I'm so glad James Newton Howard did the Score because I have a funny feeling that Howard Shore's score would have been to simular to the lord of the rings which is my favourite score ever, but you need originality in films
I've heard it but it feels way too electronic and that's probably why Peter Jackson didn't want it. James Newton Howard's score feels more like a classic, very orchestral film score and lives up to to likes of Max Steiner and Jerry Goldsmith's styles. If JNH's score isn't good enough, then I don't know what is because this is one of the best scores to come out of 2005. Even, Chance Thomas did a better job at doing the score (video game version) in my opinion than Howard Shore.
The score Co-producer/orchestrator Jeff Atmajian at 1:49 . Did made an arrangement of the Harvey dent suite of the Dark knight :-) For the sheetmusic of the dark knight piano solo book. That is funny that i see him in real time now:-)
I loved the SS Venture theme (or was it Jimmy's theme) and that was left out of the album.
Howard Shore had too much stardom for a score he didnt' finish. He already had a cameo in the movie. Why not let James release a complete score of his?
@RichardKleiner you mean the theme played in "it's deserted" and then in the spider pit sequence? i love it, too. when i first watched the film, and heard it, i played the spider scene again, just to listen to this emotional theme, and last year i bought the score and got just this short version T.T
Yeah. I made the comment after doing a quick survey of the score. Until listening to the whole CD in detail, I found it. Still, it was too beautiful to be used only once.
James Newton Howard, I must say, is the most CONSISTENT composer in Hollywood next to John Williams. Other composers like Shore, Elfman, and Newman, also good ones, tend to play toward their strengths for EVERY film. I see that as a flaw. A rather important one to keep an eye on.
You're kdding me? James Newton Howard has done way better scores as a whole compared with Shore's stuff. Listen to Wyatt Earp & Waterworld,Peter Pan..etc just to name a few. He even did the ER theme. This guy is a shredder when in comes to scoring.
You're all fucking morons. How about you actually read into a composers scoring style before you go just using your apparent 'ears' & your IQ of 20 to comment.
Howard Shore was writing 10 mins of music a DAY for LOTR. That has never been done before for a film in hollywood. Could YOU do that? no.
So fuck off.
Newton Howard has written some of the best themes to come out of Hollywood, and has been nominated for an Oscar 7 times, which is again. MORE THAN YOU.

I found the score for kong bland and uninspiring. I would love to hear the Shore version as a comparison,

JNH's music is amazing i played his king kong score for a field show this year and it just sounded awesome

They should release a complete score CD for this film. I heard that Howard Shore wanted to release his rejected score to King Kong.
King Kong Complete Score
Music Composed By
James Newton Howard
2hrs 48 Minutes
or
3hrs 02 Minutes.
It'll be awesome to hear the entire full score on CD!!

That's very interesting. I would love to see how different the Empire State Building scene feels with Howard Shore's music.

ah, well, I actually meant let JAMES NEWTON HOWARD release a complete score of his.
Still, it would be interesting to hear Shore's take on the score. A little more based on Max Steiner's, perhaps?

@yonythemoony I have it and I love listening to it. It's really long score, but very very well done.

@BigtimeDirector2005 Without mention the full chorus in the alternate version of Beauty Killed The Beast which is amazing.

Its all about talent not awards. This soundtrack is intriguing. JNH is a genius, no question.

Intersection is one of his best scores, it has Toots Theilman on Hamonica great stuff, but hard to get on CD.

James Newton Howard did a great job on the entire score for King Kong! With only 5 weeks and scoring the whole project in 4 weeks he did a great job!

I am so glad that James Newton Howard scored this film. He did an excellent job. Howard Shore probaly would of screwed it up.
My comment.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Why? Shore is the Oscar-winning monumental composer of Lord of the Rings. Newton Howard is...uh...yeah that's right: nobody as of yet.
