  • Thanks for the video. I'll need to make a very compact circuit board for a remote control that I'm making. It's getting clearer that I should now use surface mount devices. Wish me luck!

Do you have any recomendations on how I should go about making an SMD PCB?

  • does your iron has a thin tip? I mean, do your replace the original for a thinner tip? Because I have to solder a tqfp 100 IC so I'm gathering some information about what iron should I buy...

    Thanks and good job!

  • mine doeshave a small top but the best way to tackle a tqfp 100 would be to put a lot of flux on the board and then use a very wide tip to drag a lot of solder over all the pins on one side at a time.

The flux should cause the solder to ball/bead on each pin and not to bridge or short between pins.

it might be helpful to solder 1 pin on each side .

first with a small tip and then drag the large amounts of solder over the rest of the pins

  • how did you remove the old chip?

    Hot air?

  • See my other video. Hot air would have been a brilliant way to go unfortunately I made a great example of how not to tackle SMD removal.

  • thx

  • Damn, I've always had trouble with surface mounting on PCB's, but yoiu make it look so easy. And nice removal of the solder bridge! ^_^

  • so what.did it work???

  • That my fiend, is called patient...

    good job
