Man thats why I hate Mainstream Music...I got brainwashed to love what is given to me by whats "Popular"....I love this Band!...Why didnt I come across them earlier, damn...Missed out on alot... This is the best live song i heard from Sharon...
Funny how wrong labels are about sound. When an audience gets a taste of this deep fried, homemade, feet up in the sauce funk no one goes back to the plastic craptastic buffet of britney and Asslee and the other fakers.
okay can you stop!!!! Amy doesn't sing on funk and Sharon doesn't sign jazz so don't compare them geez leave them alone!! Amy is a great jazz/soul singer and Sharon is a funk/souk singer. Their different and the sound completely different. Gosh leave Amy alone!! I love both singers.
the reason of the controversy between Amy Winehouse and Sharon Jones is that producer Mark Ronson basically "hired" the Dapkings to play on most of the tracks of "Back to Black". He basically wanted the Sharon Jones sound and just replaced the singer. that's why the album has that retro funk/soul/jazz sound. of course both Sharon Jones and all of her fans were outraged by that move, and with reason, since Jones is also a better singer. But money and looks buy many things.
Okay I can understand what your saying that was a bad move on Mark Ronson's part but he was producing Amy not Sharon!! Amy was inspired by Ronnettes, and Ronnettes so yes he wanted the Dap-kings 60's sound. But hello she's not funk singer!!! Back to Black came out before 100 days and nights. Another note, Amy wrote a lot of the songs towards the end of her Frank era when her style was more jazzy. So she's not copying anyone.
Is there any doubt this fabulous performer and vocalist is from Augusta Ga, the home of James Brown? She's GOT IT, and I'm glad she's still going strong.
You gotta see her live. She was in the Central Park this past summer. She's been around for a long time, but no one figured it out. When Janis Joplin died, I thought the REAL Blues-Jazz-O-So-Funky female died as well. All the James Browns and gods of blues, jazz and funk are alive and well.
She would so kill "America's Got Talent" She'd fill that place in Los Vegas nightly.
why wouldn't i bring amy into it? geez. sharon's been playing with the dap kings for aaages, before winehouse even hit the crackpipe and got marginally interesting.
there is nothing unique about this womens voice, as good as it is, we've all heard it before. But with winehouse, its a stark contrast to hear her voice, coming from that body of hers.
Why bring Amy into this? Because Amy is mimicking singers like Sharon. Sharon has been singing since the 70s! Before Amy was even born. Nothing unique? What? Just because there is now a mainstream white girl who can belt out classic sounding soul ballads to teeny-boppers, you think she's unique? Because Amy's producer had a good idea to use Sharon's backing band of the last 10 years, she's unique? Come on! Get a clue.
What's Amy unique to me is here lyrics not just the way she sings.
I don't even know why you're arguing about Amy and Sharon there's no point in comparing them they're 2 very different artists and Amy seems to be one of those that needs to self destruct to be as good as she is, sad but true.
umm no she's not she sings soul and jazz for years before she even became famous!! Sharon sings funk!! Those are different genres and their two different people. And what about Ne-yo or Usher they copy Michael Jackson and what about Micheal Jackson?? He copied James brown?? No they were all inspired by singers from previous generations but they bring their own unique style to soul music.and yes Amy has unique lyrics she has so many puns and her slang is British slang too. I love both artists!
It's something about Sharon Jones that always catches my attention, I guess it's that she has that old school blues sound, I think will be seeing a lot more of her, she kind of reminds me of a blues singer I know from germany name of Angela Brown...

Why do people bash Amy Winehouse?
At least she sings live and writes her own music, plus her albums are actually good.
Yes, she can't sing live as well as Sharon Jones, but so what? She can still do well.
