@realcloak Because we design and built them here. For all intents and purposes, it's an aussie truck/ute. I think there was some problem with reaching US emitions laws ( excuse the sp) and that's why it never went to the US.

Actually the 5.4 having the quad cams gives the XR8 the upper hand when it comes to top end power, compared to the VE SS and VE R8 have a lower power range meaning more torque down low and shitty launch in a drag time to catch up holden 60yo technology is starting to sagg.

@jameslinton. Whatever you do then, dont tell the topfuel guys that they are using old technology. Although the Ford engine is far superior, when it comes to forced aspiration, twin cams makes little difference.

@jameslinton50 the 5.4 litre actually is pretty limited top end due to its long stroke high rpm's and therefore big top end power are not possible. bigger bore smaller stroke is better at high rpm's. also the pushrods are a lto mroe compact and a bit lighter but probably not enough to be worth mentioning. im not saying they are better but both have pro's and con's. the next step for both brands should be direct injection!

@nineinchman87,dont get me wrong im a holden supporter, BUT, holden has a ridiculously old engine and all the can do is increase the capacity, thats old and ineffective, they were 5lt, 5.7, 6, 6.2 and now 6.3, where fords have the upper hand is they are 5.4lt engines. quad cam, means much better high end torque, if you know anything about competitive driving,, the only time the car remains under 3000rpm is on idle, so on the track fords have more superior power, as much as it hurts me to say.

It is a 5.4 litre V8. Even standard Ford Utes in Australia have an option of a straight 4 litre 6 or a 5.4 litre V8.

the 5.4 litre BOSS engines are put togethor by Ford Australia using an assortment of American parts, The closest thing you can buy in the states to an Austalian ute is the pontiac sports utility or whatever they call it, which is a holden rebadged. There's nothing wrong with a straight 6, the 4 litre turbo's fly.
