I like Nine Inch Nails version better, but thats probably because I'm more of a industrial rock person. But a while back I would have without a doubt liked this song alot.
Sup douchebags, I'm a NIN fan and I like Soft Cell. Your pointless bickering over which band is better merely reflects your own pigheaded inability to recognize the existence of other music. Please stop ruining good music with your shit-throwing antics. You look like a bunch of monkeys with clothes on.

Soft Cell was Dave Ball and Marc Almond
They got to know each other while both were members of Psychic TV
Psychic TV was formed from the ashes of Throbbing Gristle
Throbbing Gristle started the Industrial Records, the first time "industrial music" was used as a phrase was in their slogan "Industrial Music for Industrial People.
that NINnie band is pop trash designed to tell t-shirts to mall kids
Tho some of the repairs Coil (also formed out of PTV) did for the NINnie band are pretty good.
@acousticmanland Stop talking shit about the godly stuff like NIN and go blow off some steam by buttplugging your douchy self, both anally and orally.
@acousticmanland You're missing the important point here. Stop spewing negative subjective bullshit about legendary bands such as NIN. Besides, you know approximately one fat shit about the industrial music genre so quit criticizing. If you feel the urge to compare, pick something you're more knowledgeable about and have an easier time processing, like Cyrus and acoustic Bieber.
@GoldPain Hey! I did upload it, but it was blocked in just about every country on the planet! I think YouTube has some copyright protection stuff and I'm not sure how to get around it?
@Alexm799 Ah, gutted! I could always send it to you in an e-mail if you wanted, and then you could upload it? Cos you seem to have been successful with this one and the others haha
i LOVE Trent's version but quite honestly being that i absolutely love stuff like gary numan, joy division etc. i actually like the clarity and tone of the vocal here better, however trents overall production is FAR SUPERIOR
Trent would never say his version owned this, he obviously had a lot of respect for Marc Almond to even cover his song.
They are both good, and Im sure both artists are happy that the other enjoyed their music enough to have this collaboration.
People who feel the need to compare which is better or claiming people are ripping other people off are missing the whole point entirely. I wonder if they even listen to the songs.
@cullyvan Are you serious? None of NIN's albums have even included a cover song. The closest is the Broken EP which originally came with a separate 'bonus' disc of two cover songs (so not really part of the EP). However, the songs are now published on the same disc as 'secret' songs that play after a long gap of silence at the end of the EP.
The small hand full of other covers they have done were always released as B-sides on singles, remix albums, anniversary editions, or only played live.

The version by Nine Inch Nails is immensely superior, this is nothing but lame. The lyrics are the only bit in this worth something, and that's exactly what NIN preserved for their version from this.
@Alexm799 (I know this comment is a year old) Well, NIN generally has a way of making covers of songs his very own, like Metal by Gary Numan and Dead Souls by Joy Division to me anyways.
Oh Fuckoff. Production was not what it is now back then. Appreciate it for what it is. Nine Inch Nails seem to rip off everything from the early eighties , just adding heavy guitar. They are doing nothing original. This is original.
Like Trent really adds much "guitar" to his music in general. Listening to NIN's version of THIS song, there isnt even any guitar period. [fail] I dont know about how he would rip off everything from the 80s. Just this song and "Dead Souls" by Soul Division? Two songs, tops, sure doesnt seem like everything from the 80s.
Looking back from today, Im pretty sure everyone now a days rips off Trents work, rather than him ripping off someone else. Thats why he is who he is, look up "original" in the dictionary, youll see Trents face right next to it.
@AnnoNihilus NIN are just metal for pretentious pop-haters who can't bear to admit they like mainstream metal so hide behind the industrial moniker. I just listened to their version and it's typical of the 90s so-called industrial habit of distorting everything so much so people can't hear how tame their programming and sounds really are. Only lame industrial metalheads will remember that version. Only reason anyone would prefer NIN over Soft Cell is if their brain is a taste-free zone.
@chrisnoaro1 >nin >metal Wtf? I think that "metal for pretentious pop-haters" would fit Slipknot better... but let´s keep Slipknot out of a Soft Cell shoutbox.
@chrisnoaro1 I don't feel like a pretentious pop-hater, but I kind of agree with you. I like both versions, each one of them represents its era. I personally don't like eighties very much, I find the music funny (that's probably because I didn't experience this era) :)
I went years ago and it was brilliant, absolutely jumping but this time it was alot quieter was gutted alot of the old haunts i frequented last time were closed like a lot of places i suppose, still good though, needed to book into rehab on my return lol
