hi man, great video, very useful, I see that the interface is quite similar to the one in romraider (open source for tuning subarus), so i would be a fairly easy transition, now my question is: in romraider there are target boost and wastegate duty cycle tables, I noticed that your demo did not include boost setup, I'm guessing because the turbo does not have any kind of boost solenoid and it's only setup externally (manual or avcr) . Does Nistune support any kind of boost level input?
@JanoRS13 Email nistune themselves, some ECUs have boost control tables, others don't, their forums are very informative and Pete and Matt are very helpful people, I'm sure they will be able to assist you.
hey man great video but i cant understand the timing part,is not supuost that the higher the rpms the more advanced the timing?why you say 3 timings for boost or i didnt hear well.
@serchmarc When the engine is under boost, you'll want to retard the timing. Take a look at a stock ECU program from a Z31 turbo and you'll see how the timing gets lowered in the areas where the engine will be in boost
@NYCZ31 so basically you are saying that when the engine is in WOT the turbo is loading the engine with boost the timing have to be closer to zero?thats interesting i didnt know that
@serchmarc Go on Wikipedia and read the entry for "Ignition Timing," it'll give you a good overview. Read the Nistune beginner's guide too, especially where it talks about editing the timing maps
@NYCZ31 whoa whoa, more air(boost) which means more fuel...you are running high 10:1s for a/f ratio under boost. well if you are running more fuel your ignition lead needs to be more advanced to burn all the fuel. also, with more fuel your burn is cooler which means you can run more advanced timing which generally = more power because of a more efficient burn. You look like you have been doing this and have ur car tuned so Im not saying your wrong, but if I am wrong please explain.
i'm in peru and tuning cars this way is not so knowed, maybe if could use a program for my SR18DE because there is no program for my car, please let me know cuz id like to know it
Correc that factory ECU doesnt support MAP sensor which is why we recommend Z32 or Ford lightning MAF and plumb back BOV into the turbo which works fine. Too many mods to ECU code to put MAP capabilities in. Tarrif is 8708/9993 and duty depends on country
S14 KA24DE 1995 models will work, 1996 ones I've got a prototype working for it. You can download previous ROM tunes via consult, plug in the Nistune board and then upload to the board
Great video and explanation of Nistune. I've been thinking about going Nistune for months now. Question is for those of us who currently has a romtune like enthalpy or emance. All we would need to do is desolder the old chip and solder on the nistune daughterboard and we're able to start tuning right?
Nistune becomes complicated when u put a maf sensor in the car that isn't in the predefined selections provided.
I have a few quarrells with nistune also, in the sense that alot of the things in the program that are adjustable are in "units", they basically have no meaning outside of nistune.
Failed to mention how to start tuning. You need to turn off o2 sensors (unplug them or turn o2 feedback temp high, or press 'o' key). otherwise changes u make will not have any effect
Just Curious because I want to get one for my Z32. How much was the Tariff/Duty percentage for the import? How and where did you pay tariff/duty? Was the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification # 9032.89.60?
I wrote "used car parts" on the customs paperwork, outbound to australia, and I think there were little to no tax. Coming back to the US, there were no import taxes at all.
I have an redtop SR20DET in a 240sx. The shop that I go is Lethal Injection. They are now a NISTUNE Dealer. They were telling me more about it but I just dont know what to do. Like if I get it, I dont want to think back and think if I just wasted my money on something worthless
Keeping the MAF? Go Nistune. Going MAP? Use something else as your probably going for a power level that would be worth spending MUCH more money (more than 2-3 times as much as Nistune) for a standalone.
get nistune, then you watch it happen on your laptop, power fc knock light is all the warning you will get, if you run a nissan ecu it should still cut under knock, what motor are you running,,,
nistune rocks,,, used it on a r33, running 19psi on standard internals, using a type 2 board on a z32 ecu, its amazing how many so called tuning companies, say it carnt be done, 500 +hp says it can, take your time, READ the instructions , and prepare for big power,,the only trouble is you always need more,,,,lol
Do you guys know if by any chance the 300zx vg30de (non turbo) transmission is compatible with the vg30dett engine?? I have a NA 300zx with the vg30de and the manual gear box and i was wondering if only swaping the vg30dett would be ok
I'm pretty sure it should work as its using the SR20DE ECU so it should be fine. You need to buy the daughter-board first though and get it soldered onto your stock ECU
No it only works on OBD1 cars. So certain s14 ka24de doesn't work either. Only OBD1 cars are. Nothing built after 2000 to my knowledge is OBD1, They are all OBD2. Your solution there is the cobb accessport, or a ecu reflash. OBD2 is very different from OBD1.
Question to the OP. Nistune doesn't support map sensors?
I don't think it does...though I think people wanting to use a MAP sensor are doing things that are beyond the scope of what Nistune does. They might want to go full standalone...
great video,, i gonna use it on a ecr33, but found out that i need a z32 ecu,,, which will work with a rb25det,,, minor wiring change only, whats the problem with the standard skyline ecu, anybody know,,,
So at wide open throttle it is using the AFR table for correction. I was thinking it didn't look at them at WOT. I am not familiar with the software at all. Standalone DFI for me where I have fueling tables. He is fat down low, ok at mid and lean up top. One point each way.
The ECU is always looking at some particular cell depending on load factor/RPM. For me, it was impossible to find one K-value that matched everywhere. 155 was good for low loads, but lean in high loads. 175 was good for high loads, but too rich in low loads. 165 was my compromise value, and I make adjustments in the few cells that need it to reach the AFR I want at that load factor/RPM/pressure level. The Documentation section of the Nistune website has some guides you will want to look at.
At 8:15 you are lean. When you adjust the constants(165 to 175) and add fuel is it just adding fuel in the area where you went lean or does it add fuel across the whole table? Trying to help a friend tune over the phone.
If you increase the K-value, it'll enrichen the whole table, but latency affects the AFR more near idle. If you lower AFR in individual cells on the fuel table, you're adding more fuel. You want a K-value that will make the AFR's on your gauge match the AFR's throughout the fuel table. Once you have that then you can change individual cells to fine-tune particular load factors (lean out highway cruise areas, richen up WOT areas further, etc)
the wideband you've got shows up on your laptop, but do you have a small display to see your afr without having your laptop in your car running 24/7? :P
Nistune is the thing, i plan to get one for my CA18DET, first i need a notebook/laptop ^ ^ Is a innovate lc 1 wide band necessary? i dont whant to run nuts just about 200kW
Some sort of wideband is critically important, whether you're on the dyno or on the street doing it yourself. Without the wideband sensor you can't tell that your air/fuel ratio is, and therefore cannot see what effect your tuning changes are having.
well, on dyno to tune shure , i mean can i use a aem uego or some thig else. did i need the factory o2 sensor, or should i mount the bosch lsu 4.2 in place or like seen on some skylines in a special pipe in the tail pipe.
Great video, I'm interested in getting this for my Z32. Does Nistune have advance features like AEM's Plug and play engine managment system?Like a boost control, programmable traction control, two step launch control, and soft cut rev limiter? Thanks
If the original ECU doesn't have the feature, Nistune won't have it. If you want stuff like that then a full standalone is what you want (or something like the AEM)
This is awesome, we need more videos like these. I want to use this one an S13 with a KA24DE NA with all possible boltons and race clutch and flywheel, 1piece alum driveshaft... it would really help :)
1)you can use differently scaled lattices for timing and fuel maps (and other maps also, like boost control or VE map) and
2)the step in lattice does not have to be uniform. I mean - you can increase resolution in transition area by decreasing it around idle or at low loads.
Hey, nice video! The only correction I want to make is that you cannot "add" more and more columns to either load or rev scale but rather you can assign bigger values, stretching rev or load range. The tradeoff here is the resolution of the map - it remains 16x16 cells. I use 550 rpm step instead of factory 400rpm, this gives me 8800rpm reference point at the last row.
Nice job on the video. I just purchased Nistune for my 86 Z31 turbo and hope to have the car running later this year. Your video took some of the mystery out of the program.
Thanks for the video. I was running the Zemulator from Ash. But since this guy Ash is not very reliable I was looking for alternatives to a piggy back system. I believe this is what Specialty Z runs on there car as well. I am going to look further into this as well.
That explained a lot man, awesome video. maybe this is a stupid question, but is the z32 maf plug and play or is rewiring required? I also have nistune, its hard to figure out how to change the constants not really knowing my afr ratios. First I got to get a new exhaust then install my lc1.
The Z32 MAF plugs right into the Z31 harness. Apparently the Z31 MAF has an offset in the voltage that Nistune can remove, allowing the Z31 MAF to meter as much air as the Z32 MAF. I have not tried this myself but that other guy is running around 400RWHP with the Z31 MAF and Nistune. He thinks he can reach 450 before the meter is maxed out.
My questions have been answered about using this program and I'm gonna make sure to pick this up along with a wideband for this year. What wideband setup are you using?
alright...
