I'm losin' you here on the hanging thing. Capital punishment doesn't work as a deterrent because criminals always assume they won't get caught. Plus, what about the innocent people that every now and then get convicted? If these innocent ones are locked up, you can still make it up to them by paying them for the lost years, but if they're dead... not so much.

The electric chair, gas chamber, and lethal injection are all viable, less archaic forms of execution. All of the aforementioned alternatives can be just as agonizing, if not more, than hanging. In fact in many situations, most actually, the neck breaks and hanging means instant death.

The country's in Europe are in much better shape than they are over there in the USA. Europe has been around much longer than the USA and will still be here long after the USA has burnt its self out. How can you say you have freedom when your so scared of going outside without a gun strapped to yourself. Over we can walk if Real freedom without worrying about been shot. In that kind of case if it were to be found that some one lied an sent a inosent person to jail then the person who lied should have to serve the time of the person she lied about even if it is the death penalty.
I agree with most of what you said except I think the condemned should be able to choose their execution method, for example - firing squad, beheading, single shot to the head, drawn hung and quartered, etc. If they refuse to choose let the jury decide or default it to hanging.

what you say does make sense, but, in my case, my parents had 4 boys, and all 4 of us were punished the same way (spanked when doing wrong, rewarded when doing right) and 2 of my brothers have had numerous run-ins with the law (jail time), and we are still not sure if they have learned. on the other hand, myself and one brother have not been involved with the judicial system (as of yet) i'd say that sometimes it works, somethimes it doesn't. i think its hit or miss

Instead of 7 days, I would give 6 months, just in case the person is really innocent. You never know in these times. I have seen a couple people go under the death penalty that the family, friends and attorney absolutely believed they were innocent! One case, they even had PROOF... though the court did not allow the evidence to enter into the case. I don't know why. Judge's decision. But with 6 months, the attorney could have extra time to prove innocence.
a woman claimed that she was raped by a man. man was sentanced to 20 years. a few years into his sentance the woman confessed to her priest that the man did NOT rape her. priest called lawyer, man got out, etc. i would not feel the LEAST bit of remorse for a rapeist, child molester, murderer etc. but i would have guilt for killing an innocent man. i also agree that 7 days is too short. on the other hand a guilty man is a guilty man and i think he should be hanged in the street
I think there are too many small towns that have too corrupt police agencies, prosecuting attorneys, and judges to not allow for an appeals process. That being said I do not see why is has to take nearly as long as it does for the appeals process. Criminals should not have decades on death row. I believe Pay Per View would be a good option for executions. That way the whole country could view it.
their have been many cases where it looked clear cut, no possible way they could be innocent, then years later they were exonerated. prosecutors withhold evidence, poor people get incompetent public defenders, and junk science goes unchallenged when the defendant can't afford to investigate. just consider the case of cameron todd willingham (google trial by fire.) and my parents never hit me and i have no criminal history and i graduated with honors and am now a physics major.

I agree with MOST of what you said, and I respect your opinion. However, I think the idea of letting kids 12 and older see a person being hung at their parents discretion is a bad idea. You will more or less have the kid traumatized and have the kid have nightmares for the rest of his or her life. Believe me, watching someone die under any circumstance, unless it is to defend yourself (even then, it still does) is something that haunts you.
My solution is to have more leniency towards gun carry, and IMHO would be a deterrent against some of those would be criminals that would have harmed you for whatever reason, are now paranoid because "what if he has a gun". I'd also personally suggest that these sorts of criminals be forced to be castrated if they are rapists, and have their hands amputated if they are murders. Both happen in other countries, and criminals need to have a realization that their choices will have consequences.

Public executions are most intimidating, that would definitely work. Keep kids from doing bad, scaring people into being better citizens. Guns were already allowed to be carried back in the days of the Revolution. The second amendment came much later. The citizens starting from the 13 colonies during the 1700's were citizens of England. The "Revolutionary war" was started to break free from oppressive England and their misused religion they inflicted onto them. The country at the time was NEVER the colonies to begin with, it was native indians who had rightful ownership. They eventully broke many treaties and stole it from them.
well what i more so meant was, after the revolution, the founding father's intent was to keep the people in power which at the time meant being able to fight back if the government used force. The second amendment reflects this quite a bit, even being the ONLY amendment to include "shall not be infinged" not to say that strengthens it these days, but it shows it was important to them. You're a good guy Humans4target and you mean well. But yes whatever the reasons people have for initiating wars, the fact remains, there are STILL wars. So the shock value of settling things, history has proven they are not effective, not permanent or long-term anyhow. Man has always commited crimes clear back in beginning of man-kind with the rebellion committed against their creator by Adam and Eve. Wars/crimes has since then been still going strong and has reached an epic level of all time.
Hate to break it to you, public executions aren't a effective tool to stop crime. The reason is simple, throughout human history public executions were entertainment nothing more, criminals still committed crimes and even now the fear of being caught doesn't really go through a criminals mind until hes caught. Flaunting criminals for public viewing is just a step back in human behavior, people are going to be bad regardless.
Bringing forth the death penalty in more states, or reinstating the public hangings as you suggest, will do nothing to "scare straight" the individuals who watch it. If you think back to the days when public hangings, stoning(as in the stockades) and other such punishments were normal, crimes were not any less likely to be committed. Greed begets violence and guns are just the quickest way to make a point unfortunately. It sucks that responsible users are being punished for others' stupidity.
H4T, I agree. You should run for office. Weather it's local, State, or in D.C. I still remember the worst whoopin I ever had. I was a kid and didn't know any better, I was jumping up and down on the roof of my moms car. My dad hit me with his belt for over a minute and it didn't leave bruises, only stingin red marks. I'm losin' you here on the hanging thing. Capital punishment doesn't work as a deterrent because criminals always assume they won't get caught. Plus, what about the innocent people that every now and then get convicted? If these innocent ones are locked up, you can still make it up to them by paying them for the lost years, but if they're dead... not so much.

The electric chair, gas chamber, and lethal injection are all viable, less archaic forms of execution. All of the aforementioned alternatives can be just as agonizing, if not more, than hanging. In fact in many situations, most actually, the neck breaks and hanging means instant death.

I agree with most of what you said except I think the condemned should be able to choose their execution method, for example - firing squad, beheading, single shot to the head, drawn hung and quartered, etc. If they refuse to choose let the jury decide or default it to hanging.

what you say does make sense, but, in my case, my parents had 4 boys, and all 4 of us were punished the same way (spanked when doing wrong, rewarded when doing right) and 2 of my brothers have had numerous run-ins with the law (jail time), and we are still not sure if they have learned. on the other hand, myself and one brother have not been involved with the judicial system (as of yet) i'd say that sometimes it works, somethimes it doesn't. i think its hit or miss

Instead of 7 days, I would give 6 months, just in case the person is really innocent. You never know in these times. I have seen a couple people go under the death penalty that the family, friends and attorney absolutely believed they were innocent! One case, they even had PROOF... though the court did not allow the evidence to enter into the case. I don't know why. Judge's decision. But with 6 months, the attorney could have extra time to prove innocence.

a woman claimed that she was raped by a man. man was sentanced to 20 years. a few years into his sentance the woman confessed to her priest that the man did NOT rape her. priest called lawyer, man got out, etc. i would not feel the LEAST bit of remorse for a rapeist, child molester, murderer etc. but i would have guilt for killing an innocent man. i also agree that 7 days is too short. on the other hand a guilty man is a guilty man and i think he should be hanged in the street

I think there are too many small towns that have too corrupt police agencies, prosecuting attorneys, and judges to not allow for an appeals process. That being said I do not see why is has to take nearly as long as it does for the appeals process. Criminals should not have decades on death row. I believe Pay Per View would be a good option for executions. That way the whole country could view it.

their have been many cases where it looked clear cut, no possible way they could be innocent, then years later they were exonerated. prosecutors withhold evidence, poor people get incompetent public defenders, and junk science goes unchallenged when the defendant can't afford to investigate. just consider the case of cameron todd willingham (google trial by fire.) and my parents never hit me and i have no criminal history and i graduated with honors and am now a physics major.

I agree with MOST of what you said, and I respect your opinion. However, I think the idea of letting kids 12 and older see a person being hung at their parents discretion is a bad idea. You will more or less have the kid traumatized and have the kid have nightmares for the rest of his or her life. Believe me, watching someone die under any circumstance, unless it is to defend yourself (even then, it still does) is something that haunts you.

My solution is to have more leniency towards gun carry, and IMHO would be a deterrent against some of those would be criminals that would have harmed you for whatever reason, are now paranoid because "what if he has a gun". I'd also personally suggest that these sorts of criminals be forced to be castrated if they are rapists, and have their hands amputated if they are murders. Both happen in other countries, and criminals need to have a realization that their choices will have consequences.

Public executions are most intimidating, that would definitely work. Keep kids from doing bad, scaring people into being better citizens. Great video, could not agree more with the public hangings. I think it would be an ideal deterrent for murder,rape, and other crimes. I've worked in the prison system and the convicts have a saying "Better judged by 12, then carried by 6" .

we need to change how we handle criminals, gang members and the legally insane. our justice system is a slap on the wrist for burglars and rapists. i know criminals who been arrested over 65 times and never carried a gun so its not just people doing dumb things with guns its people who are not raised correctly or rebel against parents who had a kid to early

did you ever see The Kingdom. it was a pretty good movie, but the end shows that people are going to do what they are going to do. It's all all about how your raised and what you grow up around. There are soo many ways to put this. Gang members kill for fun and only a small percentage of them try to get out while the rest will bang for life. Let's say a person gets hung in public about twice a month, there will be a part of the population that will still hate the cops, still hate the government

the only reason i've seen for gun laws is to undermind the second amendment in order to take power from the citizens who, like back in the revolution, needed to take back their country from tyrants

Guns were already allowed to be carried back in the days of the Revolution. The second amendment came much later. The citizens starting from the 13 colonies during the 1700's were citizens of England. The "Revolutionary war" was started to break free from oppressive England and their misused religion they inflicted onto them. The country at the time was NEVER the colonies to begin with, it was native indians who had rightful ownership. They eventully broke many treaties and stole it from them.

well what i more so meant was, after the revolution, the founding father's intent was to keep the people in power which at the time meant being able to fight back if the government used force. The second amendment reflects this quite a bit, even being the ONLY amendment to include "shall not be infinged" not to say that strengthens it these days, but it shows it was important to them. But i understand what you mean, i mean we didnt even have the constitution until after the war.

no 7-10 year death row stays on the taxpayers dime.
quick executions ,but there has to be SOLID proof that no mistakes or errors have been made. DNA beyond a shadow of a doubt, for serious violent crime

I agree, politicians intend for more crime to happen when they pass these laws, because that's what gave them power in the first place. A mechanic wants to fix your car, but in order to do that, there has to be something wrong with your car. I can't believe how some people can't face the hard realities of life and would rather a law-abiding citizen die than the criminal threatening his life.

You're a good guy Humans4target and you mean well. But yes whatever the reasons people have for initiating wars, the fact remains, there are STILL wars. So the shock value of settling things, history has proven they are not effective, not permanent or long-term anyhow. Man has always commited crimes clear back in beginning of man-kind with the rebellion committed against their creator by Adam and Eve. Wars/crimes has since then been still going strong and has reached an epic level of all time.

Hate to break it to you, public executions aren't a effective tool to stop crime. The reason is simple, throughout human history public executions were entertainment nothing more, criminals still committed crimes and even now the fear of being caught doesn't really go through a criminals mind until hes caught. Flaunting criminals for public viewing is just a step back in human behavior, people are going to be bad regardless.

Bringing forth the death penalty in more states, or reinstating the public hangings as you suggest, will do nothing to "scare straight" the individuals who watch it. If you think back to the days when public hangings, stoning(as in the stockades) and other such punishments were normal, crimes were not any less likely to be committed. Greed begets violence and guns are just the quickest way to make a point unfortunately. It sucks that responsible users are being punished for others' stupidity.

H4T, I agree. You should run for office. Weather it's local, State, or in D.C. I still remember the worst whoopin I ever had. I was a kid and didn't know any better, I was jumping up and down on the roof of my moms car. My dad hit me with his belt for over a minute and it didn't leave bruises, only stingin red marks. The only thing i dont like is hearing of hitting kids with fists, leaving burises; especially if it's a kid with disablilties.

l think that murderers should be killed the way that they killed the person they were convicted of murdering( ie if you stab someone to death, you get stabbed to death), no last meals either.

I agree with you. But They should see one before 18 by the time a kid is 18 he or she is grown and is harder to change. I also think that parents should step up and be a parent not thier kids "buddy".
