@uran0 I agree, there is a problem i have with most of the recordings and that is - the songs are good but the recordings are not. This video shows they can play but on the studio recordings - there is something wrong, like vocal harmonies not sounding great or flat tinny sounding drums...or the weird keyboard that runs through the song. I hate to complain but its a shame, i don't want to listen to the studio recordings because the balance isn't there,
I had to come here and watch this song to erase the bad taste left by the awful video for Owata. WTF was that wrestling garbage? Thankfully, this is an amazing performance and order was restored to the universe. Don't watch the video for Owata, trust me.
They played this at Summer Sonic in Tokyo last summer and I was just a couple of rows back. He changed the refrain, to "Oh Tokyo, I'm coming home to you." It was glorious. Much as this version is way better than the recorded version, BC only has to put out one classic like this every year to keep me happy.
woah lets not argue about the peppers and the pumpkins. theyre both awesome and named after farm produces. theyre different, and different drummers suit their musics.
@LetsGetHighOnMorris Jeff is using a Jazzmaster, not a Jaguar. He told me that two of the three he uses with SP are the J Mascis signature models, one painted black, one white. The other one is a Candy Apple Red that he uses for That's The Way.
@amoergosum3 you feel that way about Mike playing United States and Tonight Tonight? I didn't notice him mess up in the show except for at soundcheck when they played Tristessa in pittsburgh (billy chuckled and gave him the stink eye). your opinion, not mine for sure.
@Bayview05 I do love this version of the song, though. I think it's amazing and visceral. My adjustments in the drumpart would've have been different than Byrne's, though. But hey, thats his take on it.
Okay, you can step up and upload your version of the drumpart or just go back to uploading Red Hot Chili Peppers songs on your channel, jackass.
@Bayview05 Show me a video of yourself playing drums and then you can have an opinion about who's technically a better drummer between the two. Otherwise, your statement above is disregarded and you can go on your way you little troll.
Another amazing song! I love how this has transformed from the version played on the Chris Isaak Hour. Really looking forward to hearing the studio version!
Sounds so good here. Studio version is so flat and "plastic" .

now why is THIS pumpkins classic unreleased while billy releases c-grade trash hardly worthy of the pumpkins name for tgbk?
Bayview05 1 year ago
@Bayview05 Probably will be released next week. I'd put money on it.

@Bayview05 It's out now but they kind of ruined it with too much synth.

This has that feel good vibe that 1979 had. I gonna do a cover of 1979 I'm gonna call it shake down 1995.

The new rhythm section doesn't sound good in my opinion....it feels like the drummer always plays a little ahead of the beat...not in the pocket.
amoergosum3 1 year ago
@amoergosum3 Agreed. That's what happens when you take on such a young drummer.

@Bayview05 Dude I like RHCP, but he is not even close technically as JC. Give them both a critical listen.
