Whatttt? More who is better debates? You can't say for sure what might and might not have happened if Senna hadn't of died, things happened the way they happened move on. Going by championship and race victories it goes Schumacher > Prost > Senna. That's if you go by stats, going by so many other factors it's impossible to tell who was best, with the competition, technological developments etc.

The competition level in Senna's time was way better. Schumi faced tough drivers at the start and end of his career. From 1994 to the early 2000s (spanning a length of time almost equal to Sennas entire career), it was a joke. The only world class competitor was Hakkinen and half the time he drove a steam powered car :)

You cant just rely on raw numbers, since these are entirely dependent on who you are racing against.

Its just that the numbers depend on external factors that were very different in each driver's era. So the figures are not directly comparable.

Your original conclusion was that he was "best racer ever". I dont think one can draw that based on stats from different contexts.

Statistics are not useless, but always ask why those stats are the way they are. Thats one reason why experts/ drivers will disagree so much, and why Senna keeps popping up at the top of lists/ polls.

I was actually arguing with another guy who was making the same argument for Fangio. Apparently the guy has some 45% win ratemaking him the best ever. The fact that it was done in the 50s, when the sport was very young, seemed to have no bearing for him. The stats were final.

Anyway, I think a number of drivers are in contention incl Prost, Fangio and Clark. My fav is Senna, and I can make a good case for him, but in the end we will never know conclusively. That was my only point really.

I've heard the argument about Fangio before and perhaps he was the best but that is really hard to say because the difference in eras was massive... you could have had some cars 20 - 30 seconds per lap slower than others which is impossible even for the last 20 years... schumacher and senna actually raced each other and there is nothing to say that senna was any better than schumi or vise versa so thats why I say they are both great... but shumacher's stats back up his driving imo...

Schumacher was penalised for his car and after the penalties, still won the championship. And the reason Schumacher is greater than Senna is that he didn't need pole positions to win races. Many many more race wins than pole positions. Senna won less than 2/3 of the races that he started from pole. Couldn't he drive more than 1 lap fast? At his time, Senna was only rivaled by Prost in similar car. He was a cut above everyone else.

No other driver on the planet would have the audacity to try to win in that car. He was supposedly down 120 hp to the Renault and about 60 to the Benetton-Fords. McLaren actually did get access to the A-spec Ford engine late in the season, but no factory support. They finally got the setup right for the last two races of the season. Senna won them both.

Anyway, it's not Schumacher's fault but Ayrton's: in his useless battle with Prost, trying to keep Prost behind even with Alain having a much superior car, He lost the chance to keep his tyres for a decent battle against Michael, his real opponent that day given the circumstances.....

Schumacher's Benetton was superior to Senna's McLaren. The Ford Engine in Benetton was about 80hp faster than McLaren, that gave Schumacher about 0,7 seconds PER LAP. That's a strong difference.

Senna showed the world that year why he is the best ever. With the third car (behind Williams and Benetton) he managed to win five races (against only one from Schuey) beat one Williams and two Benettons, staying just behind Alain "the professor" Prost and his Williams.

it's not about this. is about that Senna had a MEDIOCRE car, that 93 McLaren was like 92, a piece of crap. Schumacher's Benneton was adjusted by NELSON PIQUET(best mechanic ever! since he was who fix his cars XD)

Schumacher didn't know HOW to adjust it. so Nelson did it to him.

Schumacher with a better car, and Senna just don't care about him, Senna just let him pass. Senna couldn't compete with him and Prost, not with that car

How? He is SENNA, that's why he won races. You should watch some races from those years before saying crap.

The honda in 1992 was a piece of crap, just a clueless like you would say it was one of the best engines. Schumacher just got luck, Senna retired from many races while on first place due to the Honda engine you're talking about. If it was not for those retirements Schumacher would've stayed way far from Senna that year.

Ayrton had a sucking car that allowed him to fight against Schumi, not Prost or Hill. He took the chance for a pointless fight against Prost, He worn his tyres, and worse, He over consumed fuel, so finally, Prost won the race, Schumi overtook him, and He retired with his fuel tank empty. It was a pity: being Ayrton a little bit more intelligent (which He was in fact) He would have arrived 2nd. The problem here (as always), is that He was dominated by his usual rage against Prost. Bad decision!!!
