Wait, 262 stitches in 3 minutes is 87 2/3 stitches per minutes. Miriam's record is 118 stitches per minute meaning that it would be 354 stitches in 3 minutes. So if what I said is true, how is Hazel the current record holder?
I think that it was that they competed head-to-head and Hazel beat her with 262 stitches... meaning I guess that either Miriam had a bad day, or she doesn't have the lasting speed of Hazel. Think of sprinting vs. long distance.
@PinkCircleO8 Also, keep in mind that when Miriam knitted for the world record, she knit one row, with no turns. The 2008 competition included turning the knitting. Think of running a race where you have to stop and reverse directions every 100 yards for 300 yards, vs. just running the first 100. So yes, Miriam holds the world record for fastest knitting, but the competition in 2008 included other variables and measured stamina as well as speed.
Yes, Hazel holds the current World Record. The Guinness World record is held by Miriam Tegals (2006). Hazel Tindall beat her record in February 2008 in an International competition held in the USA.
I'd love to see an over the shoulder view of that. Looks like she is a picker, I am too so a close up from over her shoulder would be awesome. And wow she is fast.
She reminds me my mother, she ussually see tennis or soccer matches on tv while knitting. She is very fast also, she often has to undo some knitting, because she just keep going on focused on the match, she ends with something like a sleeve too long! :D
@AmberRoseEm It's actually easier when you don't look. Once you've got it down; it feels better to feel out your stitches than to scrutinise them with squinty eyes.
My mother in law used to make a ski sweater in 3 days while watching tv over night. The whole family had so many knitted things!. I still have a lacy cardigan she made for me 30 years ago.
Wow How do you avoid not moving the hands?
