@stringshredda1005: good question. It's actually the key to fully understand what Maiden was doing. What we have is something like this: Eddie is like a prisoner searching for some "peace of mind" (check the song Still Life). The band killed Eddie on the final gig of the World Piece Tour. Powerslave is about Eddie becoming immortal, in Egyptian fashion (it's also related to the band being a "prisoner of touring"). Eddie in LAD reborn, and in Somewhere in time is travelling through time.
@stringshredda1005: Just to add this: The questions is if all this was planned. Remember the band and the manager said on the DVD that they have "a plan" for several years ? Album-tour-Album-Tour-schedules all organized ? all of this makes some sense. Also Bruce said that Powerslave was written while he was listening to "Revelations". Maybe Bruce got the idea during the Piece of Mind Tour. Didn't the famous tape of "Mission from Arry" had some ideas for it ? hum... :)
Oh, the flashback one gets from this... aired on swedish television in the mid 80s but with all of Eddie ed(d)ited out. They just cut straight to the end of the song with some guy mopping the blood off the floor :)
I read on wikipedia that Eddie got owned at this concert, & I had to see it to believe it! Poor Eddie! Awesome decapitation, though! Anways, UP THE IRONS!!! \m/
i didn't realize before how prog-rock some of their stuff was. I love the horror movie elements too. I also appreciate how smart their lyrics are. I have yet to hear Maiden sing about partying and sex, but I'm a new fan so maybe they have.
Iron Maiden's influences ranged from Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, UFO and Deep Purple to Genesis, Pink Floyd (Steve Harris mentioned them as the Floyd on the Classic Albums Number Of the Beast DVD), Jethro Tull and Emerson Lake and Palmer. Iron Maiden's lyrics came from literature, pages of history, the Bible (everywhere). I've been a Maiden fan for 22 years and still my favorite metal band of all time IMHO!
its only taken 25 years, but I'm finally a fan. I was into Priest at the time but they lost me over the years. I just watched the "Live after Death" dvd. I had no idea how much they were loved.
some ass hole said Steve Harris died not too long ago and i fuckin flipped out nd almost fuckin cried b4 i realized he was yankin my chain if that certain prick is watching id like to say Fuck You U Almost Gave Me A Fucking Heart Atack
For some reason they left this off of The Early Days DVD. It says in the liner notes that "only a short clip remains...from Maiden's own 12 Wasted Years video", but it actually appears in its entirety on that video tape. Why they couldn't use it again on The Early Days DVD is unknown, and it is certainly a shame that it isn't there.
I didn't even know about Sanctuary not being there. I'll have to copy that one too from 12. Also on 12 they have the video intro to The Prisoner, guess they couldn't get it or wouldn't pay for it to be included this time around.
i've never seen the "classic albums" video, that's for Number of the Beast right, is it worth watching now that the History series is out?
Money may not have crossed hands for the Prisoner footage, but there still may have been an issue with the rights for making the dvd... not a big problem though, like the non existence of Iron Maiden live at Dortmund.
I know when they announced Live after Death on DVD they had also mentioned Maiden England so I assume in the near future we'll see that maybe with the Somewhere tours. Are trying to keep this stuph to 2 dvd's/release? Live after Death definitely deserves it's own showcasing as one of the best live albums/shows, later performances have just not measured up to that standard.
Adrian Smith, Rik Emmett, Rich Williams and Kerry Livgren were all Dean players. The brand was almost non-existant during the grunge era until the late Dimebag resurrected the Dean brand of guitars that Smith, Emmett, Livgren and Williams played famously in the 1970s and 1980s.

@floydgenesisnut Two other bands that must be mentioned as influences were Wishbone Ash and Thin Lizzy because of their twin guitar style.

i thought it may be on the dvd somewhere hidden
the box says beast tour 45mins
world piece tour 45mins
but the world piece tour is 2 songs shorter
and as you say this is more than useable..like sanctuary from 12 wasted years on the beast tour...
i cant beleave they released the dvd without the tracks on
they could have made it a 3 disc like death on the road...
up the irons

I didn't even know about Sanctuary not being there. I'll have to copy that one too from 12. Also on 12 they have the video intro to The Prisoner, guess they couldn't get it or wouldn't pay for it to be included this time around.
SmyganPro 4 years ago
dont know if they would have to pay..
it was used on 12 wasted/classic albums.
and maiden england video.. rod called patrick magoohan.and asked him as he has the rights...
he said they could use it. i dont know if any money crossed hands...knowing rod there wasnt.
plus on 12 wasted there was footage from the somewhere in time tour in japan...im supprised theres not any of that stuff out
this tour is ment to cover powerslave somewhere and 7th..so wheres maiden england aswell
