  • No offense, but I have to say this. 3 minute Rusty Rat tied in four minutes ;)

  • Hello Davie, well done as usual. Warren and I spent many great days together tying together and talking about materials and fishing and a few snorts of good stuff. He was a great friend and missed by so many. Thanks for keeping his legacy alive Marc

  • Hi Marc,

I can honestly say that Warren was one of the best tyers and demonstrators I had ever met, a wonderful man and a great embassador to the fly tying world. I would have loved to have sat down and tyed with him as I know I would have had the time of my life...

    All the best Davie

  • Brilliant Davie, really enjoyed that one

  • are you able to look at a completed pattern youve not tied before and replicate it?

  • Hi mckiller45,

If I have the materials then most times I can, but if it's away from the normal style of fly then I will sit down and tye a few to get the just of it and most importantly the shape and style...

    All the best Davie

  • did you say it was "tied by a guy in Duncan" as in duncan BC?

  • nice job Mr. McPhail, being from the west coast of Canada, I think this fly should work wonders on Steelhead. Thank you.

  • What's your varnish?

    Like allways nice flie.

  • Hi enfginho,

I'll send you a link to the varnish I use..It's from Veniards..

    All the best Davie

  • Now that was fun, Davie! I'd become so accustomed to you taking your time, and wasn't expecting this. Great looking fly, and many thanks.

  • A really nice fly Davie!

I can see, or I suppose, that your Peacock Herl is a good sort with very nice quality, where do you buy these herl?

  • Hi MrFlundra,

I bought the Peacock Herl from the Glasgow Angling Centre, they were the large plumes from Veniards so if you know a local shop that sells Veniard products then they should be able to help you..Let me know how you get on..

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail

    Thank you for answer Davie!

I'll see what I can find, I know there is one shop with Veniards products.

    Regards,

    Pontus

  • Best rat I've ever seen! Would love to see more steelhead spey flies. Anything in a large Alec Jackson or Partridge hook would do the trick. The pacific northwest rivers take very well to your flies. Thanks much, Dane

  • How long you been tying Davie? Wonderful by the way!

  • Hi sasquatch446,

I started tying in 1983 and all I tyed at first was dry flies for the river Ayr where I live, but I fished the river Doon and Loch Doon when I was a boy with traditional wet flies but these were tyed by my uncles..

    All the best Davie
