  • Why did he have to change his style on later albums????

  • Fucking epic

not to mention that he didnt curse once

  • @blackstar21595

yes he did... 1:39 but it's still a dope display of lyricism

  • "THEY WANNA BE G LIKE THE BEE GEES"-CLASSIC LINE

  • Best Freestyle! You guys do know this is a freestyle right?

  • @jazzhopin Lol. Are you kidding...

  • @JamalStevenson na this shit is a freestyle.

  • @jazzhopin First it matters what you consider 'freestyle'. I think of freestyle as ad-libbed lyrics. These lyrics were clearly written down beforehand, and they are some of the dopes rhymes put to paper. I haven't asked Kool G himself or found some reference that explains that this was a made-up, one-the-spot bust. In the end, it doesn't matter, anyone can believe what they want, but its hard for me to believe some random YouTube posting saying, 'This was freestyle, I know because I said so."

  • @JamalStevenson Sorry you didnt read up, but Grap spit this song as a freestyle then turned it into a track with some added punchlines. But like most songs they are molded from free styles and turned into what you would call pen and paper. One

  • @jazzhopin How do you know this? Where is your proof? This is another waste of time, he even states it when he is rhyming...

"Sparks shoot out from the mic when the rhyme ignites

All types of words I write, put in flight

Rappers evaporate to vapor, I drop science on paper

    And then build a skyscraper."

"But like most songs they are molded from freestyle...", Are you a producer, a MC, or anything, are you are just making stuff up. I am done, you win, worthless youtube.

  • @JamalStevenson Chill J. You are right on this one, it is a written rap. G could freestyle, but could'nt record them because of a SERIOUS lisp. And remember production quality was'nt the same as today. So G had to take time to record. Which included lots of punching and re-takes. Not because he wasn't one of the greatest EVER, just had a bit of an impediment. Which actually adds to his greatness.

  • You can really tell that only grown up people listen to this, cause I see no comments about someone killing the disliking people, nor any Justin Bieber stuff.

Anyway, this song is dope, true oldskool freestyle :)

  • 100% BEST SHIT EVER G RAP G O A T

  • i always wondered why this was never released. after Poison, this was the lick

  • I liked pun but this is the blue print to his style

  • goddamn kool g rap is definitely one of the greatest lyricists of all time. marley marl's productions are masterful as well

  • Comment removed

  • i need to listen to this song more -_-

  • While I'm using my mind to make a design, Polo puts up the Men at Work sign!

  • FUCKING BEAST.... ENOUGH SAID

  • im tired of telling people Pac was a revolutionary that happened to rap so quit comparing him to rappers SIMPLE. He was ahead of his time. im out.

  • @smoovej03 Exactly

  • @Kingru77 How did you come to that conclusion? I mean did you listen to G RAPS body of work? Yo you could hear his rhyme patterns in damn near every Artist out today. Pun RIP, Jada he just slowed it down Fab Elzhi Nas Joel Ortiz Cory Gunz come on bruh. Did you ever listen to letter P by Saigon Feat G RAP tooked the song. I know everybody got opinions but I gotta disagree. Most of the lyracist has used one of G Raps rhyme patterns just listen to em. Even Em I mean Black Thought just listen bruh

  • @ThaFlyestMoor72 thats because he started it, he's the originator

  • @ThaFlyestMoor72 REAL TALK

  • Unbelievabe....Damn good !

  • @MCShae1985 first time hearing and ahhh man i speechless

  • ..cont. Pac's flow and lyrical skill transcend the era's like Rakim. I do think Pac gets a lot of love because he was the peoples champ but I think it also overshadowed his ability.

  • When I think of how good a person is whether it's sports or music the thing that it boils down to for me is can this person be placed in time period and still be considered the best or one of the best of that era. I think Rakim is one of those guys, Pac is one of those guys. Kool G Rap is dope, but I don't think he'd be considered one of the best today. As much as it is about his lyrical skill it's also the flow. His flow would fall on deaf ears today. Pac's flow and underrated lyrical skill....

  • Ill

  • Kool G>Big daddy

  • Hell yeah! Pure hiphop right here I log on my computer EVERY DAY just to herar the ol'school shit I grew up on like this cut right here because the rap from the last 11 to 13 yrs has been nothing but an embarassment to the hiphop forefather and the entire black race. Just my opinion. Old school rap forever!

  • @doc312

ayo, Kool G Rap just wrote the foreword to the book "HOW TO RAP: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop" - have you read it?

Should get it if you're into MCing... interviews with G Rap, Kane, Chuck D, Masta Ace, etc. - dope read

  • I want get into a debate with who's the greatest rapper. That's a matter of prererrence, but any reasonable, rational and practical person would agree this is one of the greatest rapp recital's ever! I've never heard a consistant flo ever. I'm not talking about speed, high octane on every bar with raw content!

  • One of the greatest poems ever written ,what people may or not realize is the music he is speaking over is before it's time.Everyone was scratching their heads to this one ,Im sure even the greats in the game ,except probably KRS..knew he was Queens finest G Rap Rex.. Sincerely the late 1980s

  • "in your ass so fast it'll fascinate"

    hahaha

  • But at the same time most of the people that think tupac is the greatest r the people that lived n da struggle he was talking about n can relate to it not saying that nobody on here hasn't. But he is the peoples CHAMP or was the peoples CHAMP like it or not.

  • @Slyboyarea14thland Yeah Pac was the Peoples champ. But the greatest MC ever? Nah dude. Not even close. Having energy, charisma, message & conviction does not make you a great emcee. It makes you a great person. & Pac was a great Person period. If he wasnt a rapper he still would of been great. Like Huey Newton or Malcolm. But as Emceeing goes he was far from the best. HE cant even hold a candle to CL Smooth or Pharaoh Monche

  • N if u want an example of what im talking about there r two songs bi Tupac u should listen to 16 on death row and resist the temptation the original versions. and Violence on Tupacalypse.

  • let me jus say this tupac is not considered the greatest rapper of all times because of his metaphorical capabilities he is considered the greatest rapper of all time because of the heart felt pain n reality of the songs he made. N because of that nobody can touch TUPAC he is the deepest complexed artist to ever step foot n the mainstream period. He is the king of sorrow n pain rap wise he is the king of maken real shit.

  • @Slyboyarea14thland : Tupac aint have no records out in the 80's. What are U talking about? Demo's dont count. Making tapes in the hood dont count. He was introduced to the industry by Digital Underground when he moved to Cali. Tupac was never Lyrical as lets say G RAp,Kane or Rakim. Or even LL for that matter. He is great for being a emotional emcee that spit deep shit about ghetto living. Lets stop making him more than he was. Its like the Elvis disease.

  • @TheSonsOfLight MAin man he was talking about sumthen yea all of those rappers u named r great but u have to have a serious topic a buncha metaphors that rhyme will get u recognized but serious topics will send u above all the topics tupac touched on were extreme and reality at its finest. im jus letten u know y the majority thinks hes the greatest of all time. N yall think hes the greatest of all time to because if u didnt u wouldnt compare him to others n every other comment.

  • @Slyboyarea14thland : You Tupac fans are idiots.

  • @TheSonsOfLight Agreed on that.

  • @TheSonsOfLight Y do u you tube niggaz always have to get disrespectful when sumbody disagrees wit u look man im telling u simply y he was considered the greatest u can b a bitch n denial but i dont give a fuck u have to speak real shit point blank dats what makes u the best not super complexed metaphors that have no specific topic.

  • @Slyboyarea14thland : I;m not a you tube Nigga I'm an Emcee, and a Hip Hop historian. People consider him the greatest because he is dead that all. If he was still alive people would still call Rakim,Kane,G Rap the greatest. Same with Pun & Biggie. When someone dies we tend to make them greater than what they were. I call it the Jesus phenomenon.

  • @Slyboyarea14thland : We talking about emceeing dude. Not about subject matter. Do you emcee?

  • TOP 5 MC'S OF ALL TIME G RAP WAS SPITTIN CRIME RHYMES IN 85-86!!! STILL RELEVENT TODAY!!! CRAAAZY SUN!!

  • check out Kool G's comments on this song in book "How To Rap" (foreward by G Rap )- talks about how hard this song is to perform, so didnt do it much, but how Black Thought (The Roots) kiled it & had crowd going crazy...lodsa ill quotes in this book & over 100 acclaimed rappers interviewed exclusively

  • Real mc shit right here! Kane couldnt fuck with him. He was just more popular. This shit was hard as HELL!!!!!!!!!

  • @chromepump Kane was a whole different animal, he flowed in a different way.

but dont get me wrong, out of Kane, Ra, and G. Rap the last is my favorite.

  • nobody who listens to hip hop ever slept on kool g. he probably will kill everyone of the so called legends.

  • N he killed B D kane on the Symphony ...1 and 2 ...end of.. G Rapp Rakim Krs my top 3 lyrisists of all time :) Peeeeeaaaace !!!!!!!!!!

  • This is what rappin' should be like. G Rap has always been one of my favorites of all time.

  • G Rap murders this track in a way brutal way. I love MCs like this, can't give a fuck about harsh they are towards someone, G Rap has that awesome "I'll kill you and not give a damn about who you might be" attitude in his songs.

Proudly hearing this in my eardrums wherever I go, I'm one of the only at my school enjoying real hip hop. One of my friends is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to golden age rap but he still hasn't listened to much Kane or G Rap, who am proud to introduce.

  • G Rap killed this shit

    word up

niggaz don't wanna battle g rap

    str8 lyrical rape

  • G rap is ALL OVER dat drum loop...MC's..DIS is how ya GO IN!!!

  • "I might be cool but I'm far from a fan"-Kool G Rap, lol sick.

  • bananas

  • best rhyme over a break I ever heard!

  • One of the best songs lyrically. Kool G Rap is a beast, and probably the most slept on rapper.

  • I tried to rap to this it's so hard I nearly had a hart attack his breath control back than was amazing I done the first verse half way through the secong and had to stop for a breather lol

  • my favorite rap track ...all time

  • at the end "Yo Marley Marl let's stop the breakbeat"

  • Did he say, "my shadow grows when I walk slow, nerds are scared but they hear so they talk low". WOW

  • Close. He said:

"My shadow grows when I walk slow, nerds are scared to be heard so they talk low."

  • I wrote my first rhyme after hearing this joint. G Rap is the illest of all time. THE BEST!!!!!

    Mr. O

    ONE

  • Lyricly 2PAC and Big Daddy Kane isn't in Kool G Raps league. Biggie is. That one would be debateable.

  • nah top ten list is: biggie 2 pac big daddy kane kool g rap black thought nas rakim big L mos def big pun
  • 2pac cant hang with those MC's

  • @TRIPLESIXSICCNESS SHiit u got TUPAC FUCKED UP U OBVIOUSLY AINT HEARD NONE of his really old shit around this same time as this before he was even with DIGITAL UNDERGROUND TUPAC COULD MATCH ANIBODYS FLOW SON.

  • @Slyboyarea14thland 2 Pac didnt have any records when this was out. this was out in 1997/88. Digital Underground wasnt even out yet. lol

  • Comment removed

  • @TRIPLESIXSICCNESS Ima say this Pac and Big who got more airplay and bigger status than G rap neither can hang with G Rap hell even when G Rap was in an older state in 1998 on roots of evil they still couldnt fuck wit him. Tekilla Sunrise is better than any song either ever made

  • Did they ever release this on 12? Other than Poison, this was the tuuuuuuuune!

  • Aiight peeps when you go to the top 10 rappers of all time list here on the tube, you rarely see G-raps name. I personally put him in my top 5 with Rakim, KRS, Nas.

  • He's equal 2nd for me with the D.O.C. I put Ra at 1, and then after those three its a big pool of pretty good rappers like Nas and KRS and Wu-Tang then everyone else.

  • 1:46 "The innovator with greater data, deeper than a crater Of course, Polo's the boss of the crossfader". damnnnnnnnn

  • What is the guitar riff in this? G-RAP IS THE BUSINESS-NO DOUBT.

  • Man this is slammin DAMN

  • this song was the inspiration for the Roots "Thought @ Work" from the Phrenology album...highly slept on!

Black Thought clearly modeled his flow after G Rap.

  • G Rap & Kane. He said so

  • No doubt. Can't 4get about Kane

  • dont get me wrong. No one can see g. rap. not even his mirror

  • a while back someone said Lauryn is trash compared to G. Rap, Treach, Nas, Kris etc. I philosophy

    Possibly speak tongues

    Beat drum, Abyssinian, street Baptist

    Rap this in fine linen

    From the beginning

My practice extending across the atlas

    I begat this

Flippin' in the ghetto on a dirty mattress

You can't match this rapper / actress

  • my shit!

  • one of the hardest fly style rappers to ever come out.

  • Not in order. Rakim, Nas, G Rap, Jay Z, LL Cool J, Biggie

    There is no better!!!!

  • I'd replace Jay-Z with GZA, couse Jay-Z sucks.

  • where is big daddy kane? and jay z don suck, i thot so 2 till i heard his old shit.

  • Kane was my favorite as a kid, but looking back he makes the top ten not five.

  • this is good after every replay

  • wow...

  • damn and i thought nas' it ain't hard tell was ill. this is some next level shit.

  • I'm glad to see heads realize the the Kool Genius of Rap is one one the most slept on rappers from the '80's. HE started this fast, break beat attack rap shit. I remember in school, cats debated on who was the sickest G Rap or Rakim. Personally... I think if you match them up hit for hit ? Fucking hands down, Kool got that. Rakim was just a lot more radio friendly.

  • "Developing pictures in ya brain like a darkroom"- the best ever

  • "Rappers are captured and tortured with rapture/In 3-D it's a G coming at ya" yeah, that first 68 (WTF?!??!) bars is a Hip Hop Classic!

My fave flip was in the 2nd verse (3:38):

"There'll be bloodshed, in the meat shop/Those who beef get sliced into pork chops/Until your fork stops stabbing my rhymes/From the latest and the greatest of all times" GODDAMN!!!

Def one of the best lyricists ever.

  • sic rhymes yo

  • Great Lyricism but if u want some gritty G Rap listen to 'On the Run'

G rap is a Real Gangster nigga

  • WORDPERFECT!!!!

  • Kool G Rap is #1 on my all-time list of best lyricists. (and in no order) Treach, Rakim, Kane, KRS, LL, Lauryn (yes, she's that good), Pharoahe Monch, Eminem, Jay-Z and maybe 3 more that I can't think of are part of what I reffer to as the goosebump crew. Im talking word placement syllables, timing, Metaphors, similies, punchlines. Not just hot tracks and gimmicks. These emcees can go without music and give you goosebumps. Whoa!

  • lauryn is trash compared to those nice mc's

  • ))====D~~`-_

    Yeah. It was that good.

  • Another one of my great teachers. The 80's is what made me invincible TODAY.

  • The God father of intelligent rap T La Rock told me to check out Cool G, all I can say is "DAMN"

  • black thought did a cover-song for this. fuckin smashed it! check it out its on youtube
