Giraffes actually sound very high. I know someone who works at the Zoo and he can emanate the same sound.

They actually make a very low, bleating sound, similar to a sheep. When threatened, they can even make a very loud growling sound. The baby giraffe can make a soft, mewling sound and the female giraffe can make a bellowing sound to call in lost baby giraffes.

Nope they aren't mute! They make a variety of rumbling sounds, bleats, moans, coughs, moos and snorts. The most common noise I've heard is a few different rumbles and snorts that they make when they are annoyed. They also say that they use infrasound (noises of such a low frequency that we can't hear them- like elephants).

No, they aren't mute. They have vocal chords; they just don't use them much. The babies tend to make a lot of noise when they're distressed, but for some reason when they grow up, they don't use them much.
