@williamwilbur I didn't want to give an 8th note ride push, it would have changed the feel, so I didn't use a ride pattern in the intro. But yes, you could use a hi-hat, but you'd have a different feel. Not sure if the recording has a ride, but that's what it sounded like to me.
It is so wonderful to see that not only are you a fantastic and tremendously talented musician, you also enjoy the music you play(the best music in the world one might add). Keep on rockin' brotha!
@MusicIsMyMedicine14 Wow, thanks kindly, and for subscribing to my drumming channel. Hope you dig the covers, jams & tutorials. Appreciate you checking out this video.

@juliano8315 I'm not trying to play exactly like Charlie, I'm playing to my own feel like I'm the original drummer on the session, while at the same time, acknowledging the essence of the groove and also playing any key fills or riffs. It's a "cover", not "replica", did you understand the difference? I'm too experienced a musician to be a copy cat of someone else' playing.
@Aehro Claro, você poderia colocar humor a qualquer hora. Eu gosto de ser parvo. Eu bati a minha perna para manter o tempo que flui quando não estou usando essa mão.
I'm not a huge Stones fan, although my wife wants to have Mick's baby. With that said, this is a classic tune and you covered if with an absolute groove. Well done.
@RhythmRoom1960 I'm not either, but what the heck, they're The Stones and there are a few tunes like this one that groove rather nicely, it's one of those songs that haunted me to play it. Thanks so much for checking it out.
Great drumming , one more time. You don´t miss one beat and your choice of songs is wonderful. Any time i see your videos it amazes me and i hope to have the time to make some more ,too.
@ThePurplefink Hey right on, thanks. Your comment means a lot coming from a good drummer like yourself. Just let the camera roll and drum through a playlist on iTunes or an iPod.
@martijntalma Think it doesn´t matter if that great drummer misses one beat on this song. It´s important to play the song well with the music , like him...........
@ThePurplefink You understand, you get it, these kind of things can't be explained to some, they don't understand the concept, which is capturing the essence of the song/groove/style, play those signature parts that are so vital to the song and are key hook riffs, while all the time, (now here is where some folks don't get it) BE YOURSELF in The expression like you are the drummer on the session.
@martijntalma There weren't any beats missing. I didn't crash a cymbal at 1:39, but that is a matter of choice. Just because something is on a record doesn't necessarily mean it's the right or appropriate thing to play. Many of the covers I've done I've made intentional decisions not to do a fill in the middle of the vocalist's phrasing, that's just not musical, but there it is on the record. but I don't have to play that way, because when I'm on the session I don't play like that.
i understand and agree, it is just i am so familiar with gimme shelter, i tend to forget you have all the freedom in the world to play it however you like.
When i play it, i play it differently also.
even though you play it wrong (:D:D:D:D:D:D) still think yours is one of he better ones out here on yt.
@martijntalma If the right feel, groove and instrumentations are played and it is in the pocket, it can't be "wrong". Do you honestly think that Charlie could cover this EXACTLY how he recorded it over 40 years ago? I don't think so. I was around the day the album was released and so I'm very familiar with it. The Stones, like The Beatles, covered a lot of other artist's tunes, do you think they played them wrong? How about Hendrix's Johnny B Goode, or All Along The Watchtower? Put up a cover
loved it just great, I would like to say I remembered it from the 70's but actually I don't remember a thing all I know is I was there....I think!

rhythmantic 1 year ago
@ThePurplefink although the guy plays very relaxed and tight, he missed the beat at around 1.35 - 1.38.
Charlie originally hits the toms and ends with the crash.
He doesnt play that.
Not to pick on the drummer though, but he also plays everything on the snare, and Charlie also really does use the toms as well.
For the rest: rock on.
Great playing

@ThePurplefink but if you want to play along you should play it as it is made.
Dont get me wrong, he surely is a great player (dont think i am better), but he should play the toms more.
The toms is a big part of this song.
