It would take almost EVERYONE on the scene to easily lift the bear, but the edge of that part of the cliff can and MUST accomodate few people to get the bear up. If the bear is to be lifted by the helicopter, it would be too risky, as because they have to try lift it on the mountain, the bear might hit the rocks because of it would send her dangling, and also may plummet her from an even HIGHER altitude.

Leave her alone? Didn't you hear what they said? She is on top of a mountain. If she tries to climb down (and she has to at some point), she will most likely fall on top of sharp rocks and hurt herself. Then she'd find herself in the middle of the city surrounded by people. Naturally, she'd be frightened and attack people so they'd call the authorities to have her put to sleep. They did the right thing and DID save her life. This rescue gave her a greater chance of survival.
