when your a us Army Cavalry Scout, do they have an actual sniper position? or can anyone just pick up a sniper rifle? and if there is an actual sniper position in the Cavalry Scouts, do you have to go to sniper school?

Almost any MOS can be in an Airborne unit. For example the 82nd Airborne DIV will have Infantry, Medical, and Mechanical related jobs, and of course a lot more. They will all be on jump status. Even the cooks.

No the 101st is no longer an Airborne DIV, they're Air Assault, using helicopters.

Google 82nd Airborne, look on Wikipedia, and look at current structure, under supports troops. They even have band members. And they are all on jump status.

youre correct. The only division that still does combat jumps from C-130s is the 82 AA. the 101st is Air Assault now.

With a set of good Drills during OSUT, Jump School will be a breeze.

Do whatever possible...after jump school of course...to get into the 82D Abn. aviation...the duds...I mean deltas were assigned to the Scout Plt.OH-58's,

since there were only 7or 8 individuals, I always got to cross train with them. The beauty of it is the deltas were in charge of themselves. They were never around.

We sometimes would have a C-130 for just 15 guys enroute to secure a LZ for the Co.or Batt. Good times!

Also, I've been reading about bonuses for joining. My son didn't join for that ,obviously, because he didin't know anything about it. i've been reading on the army sight about it and it says they are supposed to get a sign on bonus for certain jobs. He chose Cavalry Scout.

Are they not giving these bonuses anymore, or do you have to ask about it to get it? I've gotten a few responses , some say depends on whether they're giving them, depends on the recruiters honestyl. thanks alot.

Bonuse all depends on your ASVAB score also. You have to get over a 50 on your qualifying score to get any kind of bonus

What do the Cavalry Scouts do?I've seen so many differnt things and comments. if u do jrotc you start out at a higher rank. And you'll definitely have a leg up on everyone else when it comes to dress and formations and such. Having said that, Cav Scouts can't be Rangers, there are only certain MOS's that can try to be rangers, and 19D isn't one of them.

You don't have to be a certain MOS to be a Ranger, as long as your MOS is a combat MOS. You just have to meet the requirements to go to Ranger School.

Not what I heard, you can become a ranger, get your patch, but its unlikely that you'll be assigned to a ranger batt.

@Hyroblaze88 its not "unlikely" it just depends on if they need a Ranger and what your MOS is. if your a cook or something chances are they wont need you. they want men that have infantry or any combat arms MOS. also if your MOS is in high demand the chances of you being able to go to TRADOC is low because they just paid all that money training you for the much needed MOS and your commander doesnt usually let you just run off after your AIT.

rocktruggy inorder to be a piolt you have to be a Officer ..and you can be a warrant officer to do so...which means you will have to score over a 90 on the asvab. cav scout you have to score over the 50 percentile..im not sure how to be a cav piolt but the higher you score on the asvab the more jobs will open for you as wel as enlistment bonuses..so i would recomend that you study for the ASVAB.
