  • @zhalktis Blunt brushwork? Dali's surfaces are so pristine that half of the awe that strikes you upon seeing them is in trying to reconcile the fact that you know a brush was involved in the process, but in what way seems to be a perfect mystery. Go out and look again.

  • His mustache is sexy

  • what a extraodinary man he was!

  • Anyone know track from 55-1:55?

  • that is obviously paint

  • Who is Dalì? Dalì, Salvador Dalì is Dalì.

  • Again..milk!

  • can anyone tell me which show this video is from, please?

  • @KievanTiger Ok, just for fun I watched it again. I hadn't missed a thing, as I suspected. And I fully understand what he meant by being too intelligent to be a great painter, as this has been true throughout history. He was cerebral, an interesting figure in art, original, and a celebrity. But great painter? No, he was quite correct about this. False modesty or not.

  • I have gone on record as calling Dali a "hack". But now my respect for him goes way up, because at least he admits it. Also, we have the same heroes: Velasquez, Raphael, and Vermeer. Quite admirable, to admit that he is far, far, FAR... from their league.

  • he was very eccentric lol! a good artist yes. a genius certainly not. rock stars artists get on me nerves.I still remember the day he died. He was embalmed and is probably being kept in a cript. the morticians did a very good job on him. they should be lauded. he looked just as crazy on his death bed as he was alive.

  • u haev this interview full? where it off of?

  • It's true, he wasn't that good of a painter, he was a clever illustrator with ideas that quickly permeated the mainstream (with the help of Gala's marketing sense). His work looks great in reproductions and looses nothing, unlike those of good painters, whose reproductions tend to loose all the subtleties of the original. When seeing Dali's work in person, it is not special in the least, the brushwork is blunt. But that's the point, it wasn't about painting, it was never ment to be painting.

  • @zhalktis I beg to differ. I have made several trips to the Dali Museum here in FL. His work in person is much better and richer than any reproduction I've seen. See it in person and judge for yourself.

  • ES UN COME MIERDA

  • I am confused that Salvador Dali felt that way about his work....I mean, this is the genius who managed to take two animals who look completely different in appearance (swans and elephants), and make them the mirror image of each other in a painting. And 'Galatea of the spheres' is another enchanting masterpiece....his paintings were magnificent.

  • gracias))

    artvugar.com

  • will you please post the video?

  • Anyone know the song at 0:22-0:43?

  • @Sabored

Brian Eno - Another Green World

  • He's done some great work, but he does come off as though he is about as whacked as he can legally be.

  • lol

  • what a genius!

  • Fantastic

  • I can't understand an artist who would value his life over his art. To say that you would rather produce bad paintings and live forever instead of good paintings and die tomorrow is crazy. I am a writer and if I had to die tomorrow just so I could write the greatest piece of literature today, I would gladly do it. Because my life is not what is important to me, but my art. I cannot understand any true artist feeling as Dali does. This is why I tend not to like the man as an artist.

  • Dali really was a lousy painter. His paintings generally are constructed with the awkward collage effect of painted copies of photographs and inconsistent cartoonish elements with lackluster composition and discordant colors. I'm also inclined to say that Dali wasn't even really a surrealist. he was more of a proto pop artist.

  • @NotNamedJones Sounds like your argument is fresh from a college, freshman level, art-class textbook. Or you just needed to use the "discordant" and "lackluster" in a jumbled mass of jealous resentment to baffle appreciative, humble youtubers ... I don't know art. I admit though, he's more famous than us.

  • @nataliemoon1 actually, the idea that dali was proto-pop is my own idea. I've never read or heard this anywhere else. the vast majority of people disagree with me and consider dali to be the "best artist who ever lived and the greatest surrealist". this observation is my own conclusion after some critical thinking about the whole of modern art. But I do apologize to you for having a mind and an opinioin of my own as it obviously hurt your feelings.

  • @NotNamedJones

art is more than what you can criticise. learn to acknowledge the whole picture.

  • @chishandfips that makes absolutely no sense. so dali is beyond what art is, and therefore cannot be criticized?

  • art is more than what you can criticise. learn to acknowledge the whole picture.

this is what i said ^

and this is what you said

'Dali really was a lousy painter'

'His paintings generally are constructed with the awkward collage effect of painted copies of photographs and inconsistent cartoonish elements with lackluster composition and discordant colors'

this is what you said NOT what i said 'so dali is beyond what art is, and therefore cannot be criticized?'

  • @chishandfips dali called himself a bad painter and I merely agree because that is my OPINION. My discription of his work is basically objective, though. his work involves both collage elements and mimeosis of photographs (do a little bit of research on dali and you'll find that he was totally open about this), and some of the elements of his work are no doubt cartoon-like in appearance. nontheless, your "turd of truth" phrase-ology still makes no sense. what are you so intolerant of anyhow?

  • @NotNamedJones furthermore when i visited your channel i discovered the reason you are making these comments. You are an untalented university art major with very average major works displayed on youtube. perhaps you should practice more. Dali may or may not of have been 'a bad painter' but to be honest you're far worse looking to drag someone down with you.

  • @chishandfips ironically, calling an art student's work "average" isn't much of an insult. Of course I'm still learning, but I'm entitled to have my own taste, opinions and ideas. just because dali is famous and beloved by most doesn't mean I have to follow him. Care to post your own creative efforts that far eclipse mine? oh wait, thats right, you're just a sociopath dispensing insults through the safety of the internet, so you merely absorb resources and space someone else could be using.

  • @NotNamedJones 'you're just a sociopath dispensing insults through the safety of the internet'

    after having said:

'Dali really was a lousy painter. His paintings generally are constructed with the awkward collage effect of painted copies of photographs and inconsistent cartoonish elements with lackluster composition and discordant colors.'

    i love irony.

  • @chishandfips I don't even think you really know what a sociopath is, but why, according to you, is agreeing with what the artist himself said make one a sociopath?lol

  • look it really is nice that you try. i should say that. perhaps i'm wrong and salvador dali is actually a bad painter. the point i'm making is the way you criticise comes across as jealousy. i have pointed out your attempts to argue with a vocabulary that seems impressive, but with logic that is entirely flawed. good luck.

  • @chishandfips so I'm jealous, despite the fact that I've fully articulated and could continue to articulate why I don't like his work? so basically, you're implying that because he is famous, you cannot be critical of anything he does? a bad word against popular icons is always done in jealousy? what I want to know is what is your argument for dali's work? you've said so yourself that I'm basically not qualified to have an opinion, but what do you have to say on the topic that has any merit?

  • @NotNamedJones i never said you were a sociopath. these kind of simple mistakes make your original post seem even more daft.

  • @chishandfips well, yeah, actually you did. you compared my original statement-an opinion, as being ironic to my calling you a sociopath (for good reason), which means that you implied an inversion of realities and that I am indeed a sociopath, but you are the one that attempted to attack me personally for not understanding pseudo-sagelike jargon and disagreeing with you in general, all through the internet where there is little consequences for trash talk.

  • @chishandfips also, I'm curious if you could explain yourself when you say my logic is "entirely flawed"?

  • @chishandfips well child, I'm still waiting for the schpiel....

  • @NotNamedJones So, do you think throwing in random words, whose meaning's you don't seem to understand, makes you look smarter? As far as I can tell, it looks like you type up these comments with a thesaurus next to you.

"you're just a sociopath dispensing insults through the safety of the internet"

You are dispensing insults through the safety of the internet as well. Does this make you a sociopath? Considering in some of your later comments, it looks like you regularly checked back in to see

  • if they had actually responded, it does look like you may be suffering from sociopathic tendencies.

  • @iluvme4never actually, you should go back and read the cycle of comments that justified calling him that and reconsider your tirade. he went out of his way to try and insult me personally for not agreeing with him, and if you look at his profile, he's pissed off other people, which indicates that he is a troll, and trolling is a form of anti-social behavior, ie sociopathic behavior. you think I use big words? maybe you don't understand the meaning of them. yes, I do "check back" since....

  • @iluvme4never my email alerts me if I have activity on youtube since my youtube account is linked to that email, and I check my email basically on a daily basis, so I know when someone replies to me. thats kind of how this internet thing works.

  • @iluvme4never also, since you think that I don't know the meaning of the words I choose to use, please explain in detail why I'm wrong and you're right...

  • He is the chuck norris of sureal art.

  • he was a moron, no wonder why orwell called him a rat.

  • He was really something else! A genius extraordinaire!

  • To say hes contributed nothing to art is ridiculous. alot of people are the worst judges of themselves. He was a genious artist

  • Uhm he was a brilliant painter, i dont what he is saying in this clip! Can anyone make sense of it?

  • @neptuniumforest I also don't understand what he means with:"To be a good painter, you've got to be a bit stupid." And why he's too intellegent to be a good painter. I'm a bit confused.

  • @Li8aGun92 Dali's belief was that artists who really utilized the sheer painterly beauty of their medium were uninhibited because they worked more so on instinct rather than calculated logic. because he was so gaurded and controlling about his methods, his work was gesturally inhibited, therefore he was a "bad" painter when compared to painterly artists such as Van Gogh, Cezanne or the expressionists. Thats what he means by this, and in this way, I agree.

  • humbled

  • which movie is dali put out a egg?

  • @oranbekam 'A Soft Self Portrait'

  • 0:22.. the Arena theme: Brian Eno - Another Green World.. brings tears to my eyes...

  • I must say I have to laugh at people who need to beat down on Dali. Do you lack so much skill and intelligence yourselves that you need to do this? It is irrelevant whether he was gay, on acid or whatever. He was 100% himself, he was superintelligent and his artwork is fantastic despite what he says about it himself.

If you do not understand his work, as you clearly don't, maybe you need to seek other interests than art, cause you seem uninspired by anything outside of the box :)

  • @RoffaCanim79 i have to laugh at aspies who can't compute comedy. dali beat HIMSELF down, you dumb fuck. if he says he's a shitty painter, i believe him! he'd know better than any of us. so fuck dali, WORST PAINTER EVER! even my gramma could do better. pure crap. LULZ!

  • @RoffaCanim79 THANK YOU!

  • Dali was the last true genius of our time...too bad that most of the people today don't know nothing about his art

  • @TheAvidaEuros dali was on acid. he was a hooked on the crack pipe. clearly!

  • @TheAvidaEuros: WOW! Do you have any in depth awareness or intelligence? You obviously do not so you are no one to call this fascist egoist a genius. Your username is way too "post modern" and you are saying what with the irony!? You are taking back "Avida Dollars"? Fuck you post modernists have NO taste and never anything interesting to say. Dali's greatest genius was the freakish size & shamelessness of his ego. Brilliant painters & personalities, geniuses, are dime/12 (at least in my world)

  • @persianprincessacu well, ahhah it seems that ur the only inhabitant in ur world:Du and ur inner voices:Dmy personal advice to u is not to watch videos of Dali then and keep on reading or watching Disney's productions, i bet that there u lil persianprincess ll find interesting things not dime at all, very "tasteful" "inteligent"and "true genius"...:D ur post is epic fail n u made my day, obrigado

  • @persianprincessacu He was a brilliant painter and Draughtsman, that cannot be denied i think.

  • @TheAvidaEuros you're a moron.

  • @TheAvidaEuros It's Dali, there are tons who know of him. Get over yourself.

  • @spp41 don't know nothing of his art bitch...at least try to read before to play smart.....i bet that u even did not watch this video where he answers to the first question ??!?!

  • @TheAvidaEuros Too bad you "don't know nothing" about proper grammar.

  • @zizzersoccer That wasn't nice.

  • eventually a shitty painter has to own up.

  • "I prefer to paint bad pictures and live longer", Dali, you wonderful, wonderful man.

  • dali is awsome! I found out that his work is also hidden in the movieposter from 'silence of the lambs'. just take a good close look at the skull on the butterfly... ;-)

  • @black4pienus it would be fun to own dali's body and put it in a case and then i could invite all my friends in my spooky mansion and say "hey everybody! would you like to meet salvador dali's pickled body!?" and then my friends would surely exclaim in utter awe: "IS THIS A DREAM? YES PLEASE!" then i would show them his disturbing mummy corpse and then we'd all eat popcorn and watch "When Harry met Sally 3" in my surround-sound theatre.

  • @a15gregjockca you have some weird dreams....

  • @black4pienus so did dali, bitch. loL!

  • @a15gregjockca yep, and he got rich. how bout you, jackass! lol

  • @black4pienus that asshole was born rich to begin with. that's how it works. you don't get money unless you GOT money. look at his moustache. it's the sign of a crazy person, surely.

  • @a15gregjockca yeah just like einstein. crazy and brilliant! if you can't enjoy good art, go look at yourself in the mirror lick your muscles. damn narcist.

  • @black4pienus yes, just like einstein. he was born rich and he had a fucked-up mustache. exactly. fuck them. lol.

  • @a15gregjockca no, fuck YOU! you're just jealous at there success...

  • @black4pienus what success? even dali admitted that he was shit. so there ya go, bitch. you're just a cult-worshipping freak.

  • @a15gregjockca you don't know anything about art do you.... if u did, you would know that every real artist always thinks that about him or her self. looking for perfection and always thinking the result could be better. that's their (our) drive! our stimulation to go on and make more. it's the critical eye.

  • @black4pienus who's art, bitch? was he your gay lover? get aids. dali was a pompous windbag. he only pretended here to be humble to get sympathy. lame! at least van gogh had the decency to cut off an ear. clearly HE was depressed about himself so that i guess makes him a way better artist than shitty salvador crackers dali.

  • @a15gregjockca make a favor to the humanity and go shoot yourself

  • @TheAvidaEuros esl fail. stick to speaking esperanto, fuckface.

  • @a15gregjockca gay lover? lol. I'm a woman, douchbag. and van gogh didn't cut his own ear off. gauguin did that. but you're partly right. the best artists come from holland! van gogh and escher. all good things are made in holland, me too! lol

  • @black4pienus no, not you. you're a dutch outlier.

  • @a15gregjockca that's because you haven't seen me. if you did, you know I'm a peace of art. ;-)

  • @black4pienus more like a piece of fart. blow yourself away, asshole.

  • @a15gregjockca at least I don't need the gym to get laid....

  • @black4pienus you're missing out, pig.

  • @a15gregjockca yawn....

  • @black4pienus that's right. open wide, slut.

  • @a15gregjockca I'll bite it off and stick it up your ass, muppet!

  • @black4pienus please, puppy. let's tone down the foreplay, shall we?

  • @a15gregjockca I knew you would like that...

  • @black4pienus i didn't. it was really shitty foreplay. that's why i decided to end it with you, pig.

  • @a15gregjockca stop calling me a pig, fuckface!

  • @black4pienus say oink, slut. c'mon, oink for me, ms piggy.

  • @a15gregjockca I meant: you say it more then once. if you want to swear, be a little creative. as I am Eve, I sent my evil snake to bite you with its poison-teeth!

  • @black4pienus i bet you wanted to drink dali's symbolic milk when he popped out of his giant faggot-egg, hmm?

  • @a15gregjockca faggot egg? he's in there with a woman. my god, you're dumb.... you're acting so homophobic, but I bet you like to watch the other guys in the showers....

  • @black4pienus so? fuck, you're such a naive little cunt. just cuz a man shares an egg with a chicita and makes blood and milk offerings to the shore doesn't make him a str8. in fact... quite QUITE the opposite. lol.

  • @a15gregjockca the more you talk, the more you make a fool out of yourself. if you knew dali's work, you would know that there is female nudity in almost all of his paintings. he was quite a naughty guy....

  • @black4pienus no, you're still a fool. the boomerang effect is in place. sorry you lose. lol. and he only used female nudity as a front. he was a dirty rotten spaniard queer afterall. that's what they do.

  • @a15gregjockca I think his wife would thought otherwise. he was married! so, YOU lose! your brains shrunk when your muscles grew bigger I guess....

  • @black4pienus no, i really doubt that salvador dali's husband would have thought otherwise.

  • @a15gregjockca these are the last words I'll waste on you: get a job, get some brains and GET A LIFE!!

  • @black4pienus don't cry, rainman. your social worker will be back tomorrow.

  • Holy crap how many laguages can this man speak? I speak spanish so i actually understood everything he said for the first time lol..

  • @nintwiggy6491

Uh... Actually, he was Spanish, so I think he spoke that language good. Well, he really did. I`m from Spain too.

  • what's the name of the song that comes on around 0:30? is it something by robert fripp?

  • @azurenscens i forget the name of the song, but i know its Brian Eno

  • @gayskunk think you're right. i wanna say it's brian eno and robert fripp together. can't remember the name of the album though...

  • @azurenscens It's Another Green World by Brian Eno

  • what a joker

  • Dali was kind of a bad painter if you inspect his work for just its visual quality, ie, the composition, brushwork, use of color etc. the images are nontheless unique and often startling, and I think thats why his work is so famous. Dali is right in this video!

  • he kinda looks like michael caine here.

  • @inFLUence2508 and what about jackie gleason

  • haha this dude rulz

  • A self proclaimed genius IS NOT a genius, BUT a self proclaimed bad painter IS a bad painter. This is Dali...

  • He had such an offbeat sense of humour ! Love how he starts modestly then says after a pause : "because I'm too intelligent". I think he was the best troll ofhis time.

  • @niaj4 I think Dali was being sincere when he said "I'm too intelligent to be a good painter" and it was not an immodest statement. What he meant was that it would take great sacrifices to create truly great art, and he was too intelligent (in terms of self preservation) to do that. He probably had someone like Van Gogh in his mind when he said that.

  • @merdufer Totally agree, inteligent as self concerned, i made the same lecture of his statement.

  • @merdufer yeah, but you're just speculating and possibly projecting. it's a nice theory though.

  • @merdufer as van gogh proves, suicide is the outcome of the GREATEST intellignce. Self preservation is not so intelligent. I would have to discuss over this for a decade, there's no space here...anyway my pont is that self preservation is NOT "intelligence", otherwise a ghetto nigga with an IQ of -56 would be intelligent. Dalì mntioned Velasquez, who opposite to van gogh had am easy life. So sorry, you must question a couple of things. The idea that great art is pain is an old clichè

  • @niaj4 awesome comment!!

  • what is the name of this film i would very much like to see it

  • @elchristo7205 its called 'A SOFT SELF PORTRAIT'watch on shrooms..awesome

  • @majesticrecords hahaha those where my exact thoughts thanks

  • Of course a Spaniard would say Velasquez was a genius (not saying he wasn't)

  • genious... just genious

  • 0:23 music = Brian Eno ftw!

  • @bapyou That's what struck me in this clip.

  • @bapyou

    do u know witch track?

  • @videomongoen

    "do u know witch track?"

I think it's 'Another Green World'. At least, I'm certain it's on that album.

  • @bapyou thank you!

  • UD FUE UNA OBRA DE ARTE Y SIENDO LO seguira

  • Say thanks to Sigmund Dali'

  • jajaja, "yo prefiero hacer cuadros malos y vivir mas tiempo" esa si ke esta buena :D

  • "So I prefer to paint bad pictures and live longer."

    Hahaha. That's so fucking classic.

  • An amazing artist. I try to incorporate surreal elements into my films. I gain a lot of inspiration from his work.

  • I agree with him on his being a bad painter.

  • @meleethe13 then you are a bad critic.

  • @shadowylie First thing, I am NOT a "critic". A "critic" is a person who is "professionally" engaged in the analysis and interpretation of works of art. To me Dali is a poser in worse kind, his art is pretentious, kitsch, and most importantly eccentric for purpose ,not for the sake of eccentricity. This is MY critical esimate of his art. You can say I disaggree with you. But you cannot call me a "bad critic". Then I call you a cheap sycophant .

  • @meleethe13 tochy, touchy, touchy.............did you take your meds today? ever hear of an "armchair critic"? now put your dictionary and thesaurus back on the shelf and stop being so bombastic.

  • @shadowylie what a douchebag.Just get lost.

  • @meleethe13 i must have really infuriated you if you had to come back an hour later to show what a brilliant, sophisticated and intelligent man you are by calling me a "douchebag". that certainly was original of you, but i would have expected no less from someone of your refined and well bred character. my first comment was meant to be a flippant and sarcastic remark, hardly worth your labored tirade. your opinion is your own and does not coincide with mine. belittle me all you like. FINIS!!!!!

  • @shadowylie No red herring! I apologize from you and gracefully accept the concise rebuke, and your abasing my intelligence. This is all harassment and rage in vain, isn’t it? But anyway I wish you could have answered my questions in the former text.(I'm not being "flippant" though.)

  • Comment removed

  • @shadowylie I wonder how many times have you been to art galleries? Did you scrutinize any art theory at all? "Bombastic" ? You have a very refined critical language though. Stop being a joke, alright.

  • he is good painter in technich, but in content, he's horrible. he wants to make people crazy, that's not a purpose to healthy art

  • @Necroman666 Define "make people crazy". How is this man horrible to you? And what is also your definition of "healthy art", Necroman666?

  • @HawtFudgeSundae you make it look like you are real smart, trying to sugest and imply there is no pattern for beaulty. That's a very cheap kind of argumentation and people get used to it by reading the papers, they don't even know what's going on.

These new kinds of destructive arts, most of all contemporary types are useless, they build nothing in the human spirit.

The most pure form of art has been the all the classic types, as it lasted for thousands of years and still we get the same.

  • @Necroman 666 merely your opinion. a VERY bad opinion, but at at least you are entitled to it. unfortunatly.

  • sorry but Leonardo da vinci was a stupid man??because is one of the best painter in history..

  • i like that he sees the absurdity of things...art, painting, life, the perceived importance of those 3 things...I question sometimes whether it was all just an act but I think he started it that way, then bought into his own craziness...so he was never crazy, but tried to present himself as above it all, creating his own craziness like a self fulfilling prophecy...

  • Humerous...

  • I prefer to paint bad pictures so that I can live longer HAHAHA oh man he is a genius.

  • Lol too be a good painter you've got to be a bit stupid. I'll be sure to dumb down a little thanks Dali. I think with intelligence comes over thinking your work, over criticizing, over working, you know what perfection is and that's all you care about instead of letting the painting create a life of its own....or something like that =]

  • @staindstreams I will have to disagree with you on the first few sentences of what you are saying.

To be an artist, you must be highly intelligent. You also have to be cunning, wise and talented to the point where anyone who is not an artist, cannot understand you fully.

He knew what he was talking about. In his own mind, the paintings were not good enough for him. Which is a reason to keep moving forward and producing them.

  • @HawtFudgeSundae the first few sentences were words from Dali's mouth and too each his own meaning for what Dali's words mean to them. I am an artist myself and I know it takes a mind. Artists see what the typical man doesn't. Stupid to Dali might have meant something different. Artists don't purposely make their work confusing for their viewers, its for the viewer to decide if it's not spelled out, and some artists prefer to hear other peoples take on their work

  • @HawtFudgeSundae (cont.) without spelling out every little detail. The way you put it makes it seem like an artist has to master trickery. An artist doesn't need to confuse their audiences. There are some that purposely do so, and who can say where their intelligence lies, but most artists do things because it feels right to them. A viewer may not exactly understand what the artist is trying to say, but either way they find their own meanings eventually.
