Do you know how I can positively identify the woodlouse from a spider mite? Because my parents have plenty of spiders or mites in there home that looks identical.
well, i would probably try and look at the enviornment. I know that woodlouse spiders like mulch and similar stuff. maybe if mulch is around the house, also spider mights look like big red ticks more than a spider. the body of a woodlouse will be a bit longer and slender as apposed to a more rounder fatter abdomen of a spider mite.
That isn't a brown recluse. I have seen those and they are very aggressive. A brown recluse is generally light brown and it always has a violin pattern on their back. They don't get too large either. Maybe about the size of a 50 cent piece legs included.
betty123123 I don't want to alarm you but that spider has an uncanny striking resembleance to a white tail of Austrialia. Are you in the States? Google White tail and learn a bit more. It's very similar.
I found 3 of these in my home...2 dead. 1...on it's way to dead. Never seen this kind of spider before. FLIPPED out when I saw the fangs thanks to macro setting on my digi camera!! But, with the internet, I was able to ID it as a woodlouse spider. YUCK!!!
No I cannot confirm this as a brown recluse spider but I can confirm this is a woodlouse spider. Or dysdera crocata as Jackwolf prefers to call it. Like the recluse it leaves its hiding place to hunt at night and you guessed it , it hunts woodlice. Its mouth parts are very large and it will bite if threatened but its bites are not serious. Unlike the brown recluse whose bites can be very dangerous. Just to clairify the brown recluse or violin spider does not always have the violin marking.
thats not a brown recluse its a woodspider if it bites u the worst it will do is a yucky little blister brown recluses have what looks like a volen on their back
that is a woodlouse spider and it has the largest jaw out of every other spider alothough its venom is not harmfull its bite is seriously pain full!i found one last night in my bathroom! i tried to catch it but it went under the sink and it is now on the loose in my home!
That was a run of the mill house spider. Brown recluse have the distinct upside down fiddle shape on their back. That mutt you have there has no fiddle..
What you have there is a woodlouse spider. They are often mistaken for the Brown Recluse. The good news is, that despite a very painful bite, they are not dangerous to humans. The bad news is, their fangs are massive. They need to be to puncture the exo skeleton of the wood louse which is it's natural prey.
i like how angry people get when you say and I quote "looks like a brown recluse to me" and "can anyone confirm that its a recluse" kids get so angry so easily lol
FAG? Yeah I might be wrong.........a victim of hear-tell and unenlightened unlike yourself, BUT I GAURANTEE I GET MORE PUSSY THAN YOU so don't call me a fag........needledick!
Sorry if I ofend anyone, but if I ever come across to an spider.. Don't care what kind, harmfull of not.. Its definitely "DEAD!" .. I like spider, but contained and away from my crosshairs, other than that "its going to be me or them"..
They like it more in dark, damp, and kinda cool and chilly areas so thats more likely a woodlouse spider. They can probably have poison but don't worry.
This is not a brown recluse. A brown recluse is much dark brown & this one looks kinda red. It is much smaller though. A brown recluse is similar to a trantula.
That is just a woodlouse hunter. Their primary diet is, as you can guess, the woodlouse, but they will bite. The venom is not dangerous to humans, normally.
A brown recluse has very wide set, spindly legs, and grow to about the size of the palm of your hand. Kill them fast, don't take your eyes off them and don't miss. They are skilled hunters, and most video is deceiving. They are very fast, and they can jump up to two feet.
Time to spray my house again. *twitch* Had them. Ugh.
I am from Sydney (live in Baltimore, Maryland now), and I remember growing up seeing those HIDEOUS spiders, like the Sydney Funnel Web. I HATE spiders of all shapes and sizes.
In your description you said it has huge fangs. BRs don't have huge fangs, they have rather small fangs. In fact, they can't bite through some clothing such as denim and polyester because their fangs are so small. They like to crawl in dark places, such as up a pant leg, and people freak out and the spider freaks out and bites. Really, they wont bite you unless you press them against your skin.
There are different types of "house spiders", some are black, some are grey, some are brown. Even more to the point, every country has different types of "house spiders" with different colours.
we get spiders that look like that in our house all the time. we live in the forest of northern california. they are known as "redwood spiders" and are closely related to tarantulas. They are not venomous but do have a nasty bite.
Fuck ive seen a brown recluse it scared the shit out of me! i put it in a jar...I named it miles :3 I dont know what it eats any one got sugestions i only found it 1 day ago...
Its a WOOD LOUSE (LICE) spider. Theyre found in wood mulch and can get into your house. They get big, but theyre red, yellowish/white abdomen, huge fangs and theres no "violin" on them. I found one 2yrs ago & spent hours making sure it was not a brown recluse. They can bite, it shouldnt cause much harm. A small animal, maybe. Seal your house between the siding and the foundation and cracks and the problem should go away INSIDE. Theyve just recently appeared in NW Indiana in the last few years.
well i am sorry if my comment pisses you off. i am going on what i saw in my garage 1 day prior to a huge welt boil like showing up on me and the fact that the surgeon that removed it showed me what a brown recluse looked like. so next time you see a spider like this one , just pick it up and tell it that it is red , not brown and im sure it will leave you alone. have a nice day!
yes that is a brown recluse . i know i have been bit twice by them once on the (whoo my ambien just kicked in.) stomach and once on the butt. the butt was the worst cause they had to surgically remove it. my advice to you is to give that recluse a slow torturous death use your imagination.trust me it deserves it stay safe now and good night
i live in texas and we have them here i am not sure if they are all avor the U.S or just down south. they dont cause death, but the flesh around the bite does start to die or kind if rots after the swelling goes down.
when i got bit by them the 1st time i didnt get treated cause it was tolerable(although that was 6yrs ago and i still have a indentation scar on my stomach) the 2nd time it was surgically removed cause it was more severe.the doctor never told me it was in any way fatal. but i suppose if infection gets bad any kind of bite can kill a person, to my knowledge the only spider bite in the U.Sthat is fatal is the black widow.

It's a wood lice spider. it eats wood lice.has no web that I know of, the massive jaws are a clue it's a hunter type spider to grab and hold it's victim until it succumbs.
yeah to the dumb ass below me that's definatley not a brown recluse, they are very slender and have long legs. This looks like a louse spider or a trap door spider even
This is not true. The recluse venom rarely causes the massive skin lesions you see on youtube,Usually the bites are minor with no necrosis.Additionally the spider must be pressed against the skin just about to cause said bite.
thts a brown recluse they can turn red, brown, and black it sounds crazy cuz i only thought it was only brown but i did some research and they can change to those colors
Dude, that's fo sho a recluse man. Kill it and get a bug guy to come to your house... where there's 1 there's more. You NEED to get pest control in there dude.
Getting bit won't kill you if you go to the hospital soon though. So if you get bit your next stop better be the hospital.
it's not a recluse. You can recognize such spider by a stain with the shape of a violin on its encefalotorax. Do NOT kill it! Respect its life. As you cought it, just let it go away, or -if possible- deliver it to an enthomolgy centre for its scientific study. Make sure you clean your basement pretty well, since spiders like to hide in warm and dark places.
I agree with the rest of them, it's not a Recluse. If there's a violin marking on its back, then it's a Recluse. I would stay away from it just to be sure, though.
I hope mine was a woodlouse too i saw it crawling up my arm when i was watching tv in the night and that i hit it and exploded its face.

Dude, that's fo sho a recluse man. Kill it and get a bug guy to come to your house... where there's 1 there's more. You NEED to get pest control in there dude.
Getting bit won't kill you if you go to the hospital soon though. So if you get bit your next stop better be the hospital.

That spider is actually a "pill-bug spider", so named after their favorite type of insect.
Eliyah78 3 years ago
it's not a recluse. You can recognize such spider by a stain with the shape of a violin on its encefalotorax. Do NOT kill it! Respect its life. As you cought it, just let it go away, or -if possible- deliver it to an enthomolgy centre for its scientific study. Make sure you clean your basement pretty well, since spiders like to hide in warm and dark places.

i dont think its a recluse either (im not an expert, just saw pics) , but its still nasty as fuck!

I agree with the rest of them, it's not a Recluse. If there's a violin marking on its back, then it's a Recluse. I would stay away from it just to be sure, though.
petzlover2998 3 years ago
Looks way to big to be a recluse.
