yeah.. well plastic tubes dont come easy in a survival situation... in survival you have to use what you have and not something for sale. Because i could buy a lighter just as easy to start fire... Plenty of other goods vids on how to make a fire piston in the wild.

Thats pretty cool, but technically friction is still the source of heat for this fire starter. When the gas is compressed the gas molecules are pushed closer together and the molecular friction between the gas molecules creates enough heat to ignite the char cloth. Pretty impressive way to start a fire, it seems to be a much more efficient and reliable method than other "primitive" forms of fire starting.

@Takiado I've read about this in a couple survival books and usually string or some kind of fiber was wrapped around the end of the shaft to make it a really tight fit. Use some bamboo or a hollowed out piece of wood (if you wanna take the time) for the cylinder. I've never made one personally but after seeing it I want to try.
