I saw them 5 days later in Portland, Oregon. I got out of the Navy that day and had to get from Seattle to Portland and just made it in time. It was one of the most mazing concerts I had ever been to, them and Sabbath tearing up the Coliseum.
@Coldacre Two completely different styles. You can't really compare them. If you really want to blow your mind go listen to Django & realize that he played what he did on an acoustic using only 2 fingers on a disfigured hand.
EVH learned to solo by studying Jimmy Page, I saw an interview with Eddie and he said that. No one could touch Eddie in the late 70's and early 80's, not even close.
C'mon Eddie, VH needs to give us more before the planet burns up!!!!! I hope you guys are serious about recording a new album. DAVE!!!! give up the paramedic job and make music for christs sake. WE ALL LOVE YA AND MISS YA!!!
that was my first concert. i am there some were close to the front. my father drove me from bass lake ca 50 miles away how cool i can go back 32yrs and remember my youth........
Thats awesome man! I was only 11yrs old at the time but I remember them playing at The Goldenwest Ballroom in Norwalk by my house before they got signed. What a band and the last of it's kind. Wow dude you saw them out in Philadelphia? Damn thats sweet! I bet they tore that stage up!
as you turn the knob to the left,it slows down the effect if you turn it up, it gets faster. So when he turns it on, it is all the way up. Then he starts to turn it down.
I believe that was his tape echo unit. If you mess with the speed a bit, that sound will happen. Though you could kill the tape in an old unit doing it.
That is the Univox EC-80 echo unit that is mounted in a hollowed out "practice bomb" from WWII. It is the effect that gives the long growl you hear at the end of "Eruption" on the record. He only used it for this effect and never used it for any other reason or on any other song as far as I know...
I wish there was more 78 footage on the net where ed plays the black/white charvel.
