I know, right? I can appreciate his later, more avant-garde work, but there's something about these early videos that is so cinematic and artistic, and yet so human and fresh. And yet, he hates them and wants nothing to do with them. Strange...
In some ways I like CC earlier music videos j even moe simply because it's interesting to see his progress as a filmmaker. Hopefully one day he'll make a feature.
I know Cunningham fans are really disappointed by this video, but it's not bad at all. The band is good, and the video is both creative and decently shot.
Thanks for putting this up Tim, Now I have finally seen it, after what nearly 14 years . I met up with you guys shortly after you had just filmed this and it was all talk of exploding caravans. I still have such good memories of your gigs. Hope all is going beautifully for you and yours Tim.
A very rare opportunity to see Chris Cunningham (director of that video) in action on a big screen in the beautiful settings of The Roundhouse, London. Support from 16Bit and Factory Floor. That just cannot be missed!!! soundcrashmusic(dot)com/chris-cunningham/
This is indeed listed as one of CC's earliest works. He also made videos for Dubstar, Geneva, Jesus Jones and Placebo around about the same period. He's on record as saying that for years he just took every single directing job that came along as a way of honing his craft. What's the problem with that? An average band gets an above average video and a genius director gets experience and funding for future work. You can't be a successful filmmaker and starve in a garrett for your art, y'know.
Well said. Most filmmakers start out making videos they claim to be proud of and say they'll never sell out, then eventually do when they realise you can't be choosy in a business like that and end up broken and heading for mid life crisis. CC worked that shit the other way round, got his paper then put it into making up for his shit videos for shit bands by making some of the best videos that the world has ever seen.

Actually...it was directed by Chris Cunningham.
He hates his early works. That's why they don't even appear on the Director's Label dvd.
