We can not blame either party for what they did.... although it would feel good just to channel rage, it is always critical to look at each individual in office
The recession happened due to public pressure to congress in 1977 that created the huge housing bubble... but the blame can not only be pinned on the CRA... we also have lieing corperations like Enron and the sub-prime mortgage market... World-com with the dot.com ero... there essentially three economic bubbles that caused this mess made by the public... in 1977 congress had no choice to pass it because of a huge cultural issure that had gone on.
It is interesting to note that no one ever challenged Obama's qualifications for the job of President. They just put the word "Hope" under his photo and people voted for him.
@fivestarmichael You represent absolutely no independents aside from yourself, you can't pllace words into the mouths of the millions who are silenced by the biasties and ignorance of the american public. Why does the United States own 60% of GM? they were forced to, or thousands of americans would be forced to be fired and unable to make mortage payments. In sense the representative of the Federal Goverment is allowed to refuse a decrease in wages
@ThnkIaA Americans were forced to bail out GM because the Federal Government was far over-reaching it's constitutional mandate. And neither one of us can tell what would have happened to GM if it had been allowed to fail. Ford never asked for a bailout, perhaps because they were better businessmen. Perhaps Ford would have bought up the GM brand and started making cars with better management.
GM failed because of bad management. Why do you support rewarding mediocrity?
@fivestarmichael It is not a reward to begin with because they are preventing a huge company to collapse... as much as many of the public wants to believe that money going to CEO's is a horrid thing from the bill it does not matter... they are still executive OPPERATING officers so they manage the money... the treasury department may still decide to approve their actions...like a chairman to a corperation... still need other board members....
I'm still perplexed at the lock people have on the two parties. You are very upset with both, and yet you keep voting for both. Because you think they are the only ones that can win.

This is not a compulsive statement, im concerned with it. Do you propose to sit down and relax? watch the show? let the politicians solve?.

I would suggest a slow reversal of legislation (not technology or anything else). And see how that works for us. Recently it's been horrid. For example most would see the patriot act thrown out.
Zeitgeist had great facts in it. And really exposed the federal reserve and the new world order. But the Venus project has more holes than cottage cheese.
Jay Paul is not to be trusted. President Obama never even ran on a public option, much less single payer. President Obama moved to the left. I'm sorry, but nobody can radically change a system that has been badly broken for decades in 6 months. It can't be done. Getting people impatient and passing on the failures of Bush to Obama is a political tactic. Jay Paul is a propagandist.
No news service is to be trusted but if you read and listen to enough different sources of bullshit it is sometimes possible to distill some semblance of truth out of the hypocrisy and sophistry.
I wouldn't take such a negative tone. I know of a number of news agencies that try their best to deliver truth. Even so you are right, there's no way anyone should ever listen to one, two or a small handful. The more you listen to others the better unbiased picture you can gather.
It's always good certainly to listen to those with oppose view points, and any third parties as well.
A 'number' of news agencies? Well, whichever news agencies these might be they must be tiny because anything too controvertial, ie telling the truth, would cost them advertiser revenue. Not only that, they would never gain access to major players, or be sued out of existance. Skepticism gave way to healthy cynicism a long time ago, I'm afraid.
The strength of the founding document must prevail. We the people were born with certain inalienable rights, by logical process it dictates that those rights are our weapons against those working to destroy the Constitution. It is only when we willingly surrender those rights can they succeed. The fight can NEVER be over. Damn, come on people, grab a copy of the Constitution, a copy of the Bill of Rights, Read and learn of the thought5 that went into this country b4 you give it politicians Fight
Wow, Paul Jay in his subtle way really tears into Terrance McNally's seemingly apologetic defense of Obama. It's sad that McNally resorts to scare tactics about what happens if Obama fails. The progressive fight isn't just about the next four years, or the next eight years, or even twelve years...
Terrance McNally is full of shit, apparently. to argue, as he does, that radical CHANGE was not the central narrative of the Obama campaign amounts to historical revisionism.
This guy looks like he wants to bend over and have Obama fuck him in the ass.
The Public option is turning into a watered down health insurance subsidy thats going to be rammed through congress leaving huge budget deficits and millions of uncovered Anericans...
It will probably be a failure, which will teach the country the wrong lesson about healthcare....making Glen beck President of the United States.
Most progressives have already given up on Obama as far as progressive issues. Obama has not adopted a single progressive issue. But most progressives are biting their tongues from citicizing Obama directly even though he is governing like Bush-lite..
The Progressive started as a movement is an attempt to subvert the Constitution and institute a positivist vision of government, largely based on socialist and fascist movement sin Europe. FDR, for example, was a great admirer of Mussolini.
In the 1960s, progressivism was captured by the neo-Marxist movement, which seeks to control the culture of capitalist countries, to cause their collapse into communism.
Progressivism has always sucked, always made every man a slave to every other man.
It's all well and good constantly referring to FDR but let's be realistic: the progressive movement in the United States was very strong in the pre-Cold War days - socialism was strong, the labour movement was strong, solidarity among working people was strong and they were willing to organize, fight, and do so countrywide, plus they had their own distinct culture. In the post-Cold War that is gone - done in by right-wing scaremongering/repression. It'll take a long time to rebuild.
The Real News is like Fair and Balanced with Fox News. This network is a sham. This network wants massive change in 5 months or even two years? President Obama said give me 8 years and I'll give you change. So Fox News and the Republican are dead set against the President, but he is like Bush. That's a lie.
I really want to believe Arnold Schwarzenegger's days are over.
I think other possible candidates can smell the blood. I have seen a current Repub congressman already started working on the CA governor campaign for the primary.
I don't know which one's better, it maybe easier for the Democs to win if Arnold gets nominated again.
i'm very sorry but obama is not aprogressive. he's not as bad as bush, but that's it...
i don't get how some progressives still support the democratic party. they're not progressive. all they do is throw money at everything without actually caring about what happens to it. other countries spend a lot of money on various things too, but at least they care about what happens to it!
obama is as bad as bush, they are the same. they work for the same people, same corporations. Obama is just a better speaker and can pass off his lies. But to me that almost makes me hate him more... because everyone else seems to love the guy... at least everyone hated bush.
they do work for the same people and corporations. but i do think he's a little better than bush. he has CONSIDERED health reform and he wants to get out of iraq. those are major points which, for me, make at least better than bush
I dunno... he sounds quite conceptual and a bit "gazing hazily through the looking glass"... I dunno if he's written anything that contains quality... I'm not all too convinced either. I do give him credit for his reasons that a lot of progressive people are holding their breath and not completely ransack Obama now. It's just that any real change cannot come in any democracy anymore likely in a short time span - unless you endorse radical revolutions and wreck the system.

Screw the progressives. Exchanging one set of elites for another set of elites is still bad for those standing on the outside looking in. At least with conservatives you have a chance to get gov out of your life, and off your backs. With progressives things will only get progressively worse.

Also, if people continue to look to California as a beacon or guinea pig for the remainder of the country, we ARE in trouble. Did I hear this guy correctly? Make sure a democrat gets elected in California? Gray Davis wasn't bad enough? The reason Arnold was elected to begin with because democrats had SO screwed and bankrupted California with they're past policy's.

Obama has lost so much credibility among the independents, because of these foolish bills he has tried to pass.
Cap and trade is going to make the global environment worse, Americans will lose jobs and pay more for energy.
Healthcare reform is tackling insurance, but not the fundamental costs of healthcare. You have to reduce the root cause of costs.
The stimulus bill was more pork, then stimulus... it hasn't created real jobs.
I see special interests influence in everything he does.
