  • Amazing footage. I love the hairstyles.

  • the elites aristocrats of Old Tibet.

  • “The spirit of Tibetans living inside Tibet is very strong.

The Tibetans in exile have put in place a healthy democratic institution in both temporal and spiritual fields. So we are very much prepared.

    • The actual problem comes from the Chinese government and not its people. Within the Chinese government there are different sorts of opinions.

    • If the Hardliners' way of thinking changes,

    • Tibet's problem will find a solution within a few days.”

    • Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

    • CNN, 23-11-1

  • The people appeared in this video are the lucky 5% noble ppl, 95% of the Tibatians were slaves under the Dhalai Lama. China already Free Tibets !

  • @pigcanfly007

these are the lhasa nobles, Kudraks, aristocrats of old tibet

  • @pigcanfly007

The Tibetans were not slaves idiot, some were indeed poor but they were not slaves, they were merchants, traders, farmers, and families just like any other place in the world. And Tibet also had a very rich culture and spiritual traditions, China needs to leave both Tibet and the Uighurs alone!

  • @pigcanfly007 so where is china going to free chinese people and their brains?

  • Fun footage......thanks for posting this. Refutes Chinese Govt. lies, eh? Pictures are worth 1,000 words, aren't they? And in this case, video worth much more :-)

  • Carefree days, those...

  • Thanks for this inimitable archive

  • The dancing little kid at 2:38 minutes is really cute.

  • free tibet boycott china

  • Tibet before Chinese occupation was an absolute hell hole where, for one example, the dark shadow of slavery still existed in it's very worst and most barbaric form. Don't believe everything, no, ANYTHING, Western politicians tell you of China.

  • One people's hell hole is another people's heaven.

  • @HumanRightsVideosT sooo free hawaii from american imperialism? you realize you could do that with half the countries on earth right?

  • @ wingwaa

Do you think that Tibetans in Tibet

    have

any human rights at all ?

  • @ wingwaa

Do you know that Tibetans can't fly in and out of Tibet

    like you can ?

  • @ wingwaa

    Do you know what happens

    when

a Tibetan says "Free Tibet" in public in Tibet ??

  • if china bothers about unity they wouldn't treat tibetans as inferior...whatevr china does e.g railways, postal.education roadways whatevr, it reminds me of British colonial attitude towards its colonies like India british brought railways to exploit its wealth,....bla bla blaa.....evrythng a colonist does towards its subjugated colonies benefitted nothing to natives.when imperialist japan sacked china in 1930s chinese revolted and fought..they did it till they were freed..same goes for tibetans

  • The PROOF of how BAD things are in Tibet

If things were good in Tibet then reporters would be allowed into Tibet, and Tibetan refugees would be heading back to Tibet, because Tibetans love Tibet.

But each year thousands of Tibetans are risking their lives and physical wellbeing trying to get out of Tibet.

Yet ANY tourist can fly in and out of Tibet whenever access is not being blocked. So ANY tourist visiting Tibet has far more rights that Tibetans. Just pathetic.

  • hehehe 2:50 - chinese hip hop dance .....:)

  • This was filmed in Tibet not China so it will be Tibetans dancing as Tibet was not invaded until near the end of 1949.

  • you mean it was within the short periode, when the statal autoritys diden´t exesise there power over this part of china ......:)

  • You need to learn some history. Please watch

Tibet: The Story Of A Tragedy 1-6

    watch?v=_kl_OeRdiwQ

(and the other 5 videos in this excellent series of 6 videos)

    and learn about Tibet's history.

  • there are egnuth books wich confirm my point of view ....

  • Tibet was NEVER part of china and NEVER under Han Chinese control before 1950.

China and Tibet were controlled by Mongols at Yuan Dynasty and by Manchus at Qing Dynasty.

Mongols, Manchus and Tibetans are not Chinese.

Every treaty and agreement that is signed with Tibet and every stamp on a Tibetan passport recognises Tibet.

Google "Tibet treaties" and "Tibet passport" to learn more.

  • Mongols, Manchus and Tibetans ere the main people, wich form together with the han´s the chinese nation ....

its like Germany - there you got Baverians, Thuringians, Saxons, sorbs and many other wich now speak more or less the same language and follow the same legeslation eccept but keep ther cultural costumes and traditions ....

  • tibet (tubo) china (han) are two different entity like japan and korea.........tibetans are tibetans and chinese are chinese....tibetans speak tibetan and chinese speak chinese language....at the same time tibetans live in tibet and chinese live in china ( china proper).........

  • they are different etnitys but one nation .... - is´n it beutifull ?????

its like black cuban people and white cuban people - they are one people now .....:)

  • i'm not sure what's so beautiful about a bloody invasion that left thousands dead and the wholesale destruction of buddhist tibetan culture. it's odd that china wasn't content destroying its own past in the cultural revolution.

  • fortunatly the tibetans were spared the cultural revolution .....

  • what??? the cultural revolution decimated tibet. Where as once there had been several thousand monasteries, by the end of the cultural revolution less than 10 were left in tact. of course, like all wars/conflicts, some tibetans supported the revolution, but it is now remembered as probably the worst time in tibet's history. The memory of the tens of thousands of people who were tortured, killed or displaced runs deeply through tibetan culture today.

  • ok - that right - the cultural revolution was a verry bad time for all chinese people ..... but i think the han-chinese suffert the most ....

  • "the cultural revolution was a verry bad time for all chinese people ..... but i think the han-chinese suffert the most"

Monasteries were being LOOTED in tibet well before the cultural revolution started in Tibet and religious centres are still being wrecked. You know little about Tibet.

Is the communist party paying you to spread BS on youtube ??????

Because that is EXACTLY what you are doing.

  • @CapitanoGUC

Tibetans were suffering from the start of the invasion in 1949-50. Most of the Tibetan monasteries were wrecked before the Cultural Revolution began.

    *

Mao introduced STARVATION to Tibet by forcing Tibetan farmers to grow wheat which wasn't hardy enough for the harsh Tibetan climate rather than barley which Tibetans grew.

  • @HumanRightsVideosT as i said - the mao regime was giving all china an hard time. So han-chinese, uliguries, chinese koreans, chinese mongolians - they all had to suffer under maoism. - there was no exeption ..:::.-7

  • @CapitanoGUC

Tibet, South Mongolia, and East Turkestan also got a hard time. For me PRC is much bigger than China.

  • oh sigh ignorant of history.....tibetans are not willing to be part of chinese nation rather they were forced....i dont think tibetans will ever recognize chinese rule upon them it is like recognizing taliban rule on afghanistan but atleast talibanis they are afghanis but chinese are outsiders...since invasion of tibet in 1950 china pretents that they have liberated tibetan serfs from upper ruling class if tibetans were really liberated why so many riots taking place in tibet for freedom

  • but in a country, you cant give way to each seperatist movment. Otherwise so many countrys would fall appart. Germany woul fall into 16 etnik countrys. Italy would fall in at least on italien speking, an german speaking one french speaking and one albanian speaking part ....

  • Do you know that the communist party are RACISTS and TERRORISTS ????

    If not check your dictionary.

  • well - i guess so - this communist goverment in china is quite brutal with there own people (espacialy the uiguris and the tibetans ....)

  • Tibetans are not chinese.

Learn about languages. The Tibetan language is not a chinese language. Tibetan most closely resembles Burmese among the major languages of Asia.

Tibetan words are different to chinese words.

  • and so ???? Sorbs in Germany have an different language and an different look and tradition (they are slavian) but they are still german

and so the people in south tirol - they speak german but they are still italians - the same for the alsacians in france, etc., etc.

  • Maybe Sorbs want to be part of Germany and are happy to be assimilated.

Tibetans do not want to be part of china.

  • @HumanRightsVideosTib: the language FAMILY is known as the "Sino-Tibetan" FAMILY of languages......... just as the Indo-European FAMILY of languages.

Burmese is part of the Sino-Tibetan FAMILY of languages.

    Learn FACTS before posting.

  • @CapitanoGUC

As are as I'm aware its mainly Tibetans and South Mongolians who want independence.

USSR is in many parts now and no doubt better off than when its was a TOTALITARIAN state.

How can Chinese know what Tibetans want ?

  • @HumanRightsVideosT tibetans are chinese ... (not han but chinese citizen ...:/)

  • @CapitanoGUC

Mongols, Uighurs and Tibetans are NOT chinese. Most Tibetans look different to chinese

  • @HumanRightsVideosT nooooo - chinese can look differnt - "chinese" is not a race baut a nationalety - so frenchs, germans or americans are mostly of white skin but can have black skinn or anasian look as well.

  • @CapitanoGUC

Most Tibetans look different to Han Chinese

  • @HumanRightsVideosT and so ??? - so do black americans from white americans ...:-/

  • @CapitanoGUC

If Han Chinese and Tibetans had been living together then their genes would have merged and they would look similar.

The point is that very few Chinese were living in Tibet before 1951. So its more proof that Tibet wasn't part of china before 1951.

  • @HumanRightsVideosT oh dear - thats a proof of nothing - look to america how the black and the white comunity is mixing barly ......:-/ - most people stay well apprt. You should shift youre campain to palestine which is mainly ocupied by jews .... - free palastin then !!!!!

  • @CapitanoGUC

Languages merge if cultures live together. But Chinese and Tibetan don't have common words. So its just more proof that Tibet wasn't part of china before 1951.

  • @HumanRightsVideosT nonsece - languages don´t merge nessecerly. Germany an uniform language since the national scool programm. (in the middle ages only the the kids of the hight class went to scool) And by the way most of europe was bound in to the roman empire of german nation. - It dosen´t mean, that evvrybody was talking german ...:-/ - Swizz has got tree oficial languages and is one country. And so does Italy. Tibet was allway an abondet region of china - but it was rarly visited.

  • @CapitanoGUC

Tibetan is merging with Chinese in Tibet. Some Tibetans in Tibet have slight Chinese accents now.

  • @HumanRightsVideosT thats possible ... - since tey got a railway conection, radio and TV and since more and more chinese middleclass people from peging or shanghai doing holidays in Tibet ....:-D

  • @CapitanoGUC

Tibetans have their satellite dishes stolen from them so TV in Tibet will be Central CORRUPTION TV propaganda and LIES

  • @HumanRightsVideosT thats well possible - thats how they do evrywhere in countrys governed by an komunist regime. Thats the same shit evrywhere in china ....:-/

  • @CapitanoGUC

Apparently TV is pretty boring in China. But I guess in many places in Tibet there's probably no signal at all.

  • @CapitanoGUC

Tibet was independent from China from 821 to 1949.

  • Tibet was invaded by china because of its uranium and timber resources.

  • As well as all Tibet's resouces, which are many, Tibet has strategic military value.

  • how about japan invade China?

  • I don't think they knew about uranium 500 years ago.

  • Tibet was NEVER part of china and NEVER under Chinese control before 1950. China and Tibet were controlled by Mongols at yuan and by Manchus at qing !!!

  • Pathetic how once you can't offer a counter argument you spew some random shit the Dalai Lama sent to you in a .doc file you can copy and paste.

  • Do you think this video is about not knowing about uranuim 500 years ago ???

You look like a spammer to me.

  • Solom89

    Please watch

and become informed. At the moment you seem to know VERY little about Tibet.

  • beware of commie infiltrators in utube. They are posting lies and their distorted narration of history all over Tibet related videos.

  • Oh my! how horrible. here we have a video of a child being taken away to become a "monk." Did you know that most of these child monks never recieved any education, not even religeous education, and were mere "servants" of the high Lamas? They were in fact not free to leave, and worked the fields (like serfs) or inside the monestaries, (like slaves) until they died. Many of those child monk slaves were "freed" from their servitude by China in 1959 and have become leaders in China today.

  • Ya, that's really horrible. That monk you speak of is the Dalai Lama as a child. The monasteries were the learning institutions of Tibet. Of course, since the invasion the vast majority of them have been looted and destroyed and the remaining ones are only left to bring in tourist dollars.

  • I am sorry, you are only partly correct. You are right monestaries were the learning institutions in Tibet before 1959, Since then China has built schools, and writen laws to protect women and children, so they can attend schools where they learn more that Tibetan Buddhist Philosphy. Now children can choose their profession, mnot be confiscated from loving families.

Some monestaries were destroyed during the cultural revolution by angry locals. China has rebuilt them Not all are for tourism.

  • The 6254 monasteries that were the living repositories of over a millennia of higher Tibetan civilisation were destroyed. Their treasures were shipped to China or melted down into bullion or bullets.

But the destruction of culture in Tibet did not finish there. Please watch

The Destruction of Serthar Buddhist Institute in Tibet

  • @bleupeony

6000+ monasteries were shelled or bombed by the communist party, often before the cultural revolution.

A few monasteries have been rebuilt, but by Tibetans not the communist party

  • LOL The Dalai Lama is a paid CIA agent. China freed the slaves and serfs in the region of tibet in 1959. Why did it take so long? One reason is Mao protected the Dalai Lama and atonomy because his mother had been Buddhist.

  • brainwashed fool

  • His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama called a full amnesty (which means freedom for all) before he left the jokhang temple the first time when china invaded Tibet in 1950. So he freed them all, not china.

  • thanks for uploading

  • Good life is for the royal families, poor ordinary Tibetan starved and died everyday during that period.

  • But consider the amount starved in China: 29 million excess starved to death.

  • yadsik

    You have missed a point;

Consider ONLY royal families and Dalai had luxury life and celebrated every day, other 95% of ordinary Tibetan were slavers and starved to dead. Do you think this kind of society should be proud?

Btw, your figures were estimated. China was just finished World War 2 and Civil War. There was nothing left. There are not compares at same level.

  • Although the CCP cites slavery as a justification for liquidating the Dalai

Lama's government, the practice was by no means confined to Tibet. It is

estimated that in 1930 there were about 4 million child slaves in China

proper. [Meltzer93] Also, lets go ahead about 20 years to the 1960s, I would have spared you the turmoil but I will have to tell you that a high amount of estimates claim over 67M deaths from starvation, the highest being 80M.

  • yadsik

Thank you for you to agree with me China govt is a liberator. As you said "estimated that in 1930 there were about 4 million child slaves in China", from 1945-1951 PLA liberated whole China ( including Tibet ) and started a new modern era. 4 million child slaves and 1.15 million Tibetan slaves were liberated by great PLA. They are heros of China.

  • They do not make up for it, because they also killed 1.2 million Tibetans.

  • I wish more of this material was tranferred to Youtube. I suppose in British archives can be found almost anything...I hope some person with digging skills see this and keep up the good work! Interesting to compare these images with the BBC-series "A year in Tibet", filmed recently. (See my favorites to get some of it)

  • Cool video :] i enjoyed it.

  • I saw this film years ago and have talked about it constantly ever since. I am so glad someone has posted it on You Tube for the world to see..over and over again. Shame I couldn't hear the sound because the whirling monks are fantastic. The film I saw had some scenes from 1902 also..anyone seen that?

  • These amateur films were shot on 16mm without sound.

  • OnRiki

Cum on- guess the language is the same too? No wonder I understand nothing when a Chinese opens his mouth. Nor do you fellows understand Tibetan. Claiming Tibet to be a part of China is like saying a tiger and a cow are the same. We have a culture that was ok like all cultures and I think we have the right to practice it. China piss off from Tibet and Greater Tibet.

  • it might jusr some parts of it in Tibet

    nice

  • 19092009

    Do you know about Tibet?

Do you know what MWA stands for?

  • Tibet was never part of china...

  • those dances are beautiful

  • chinese or manchu???, come on, this is not chinese cloth, o, maybe, through, culture genocide, there are less 100 people, can speak manchu!

  • tibet was and is a part of china, so of course tibetans have similar clothes like chinese or manchu. and they also have a hairplait.

  • Next lie please.

  • Are they the manchu?

Their clothes looks like the manchu's.

Is the man in manchu-style silk clothes is the manchu emperor?

  • Ignorant people with ignorant questions!!!! When will you people learn? Urgh

  • dhenub:

    You are really ignorant!

Tibet was ruled by Manchu emperor, isn't it?

  • No, it was ruled by the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama. Tibetans have never recognized a foreign nation as it's leader, however it did recognize Manchuria and Mongolia as Protectorates at certain points in History, however the British expeditions in the early 20th century claimed that it was independent of any external influence and almost completely isolated.

  • yadsik

You may have many arguments about Tibet, but the fact is UN recognized Tibet is part of China, there are millions foreign relationships documents of evidences, even you repeat lies for 1000 times, it will never be true.

  • Nepal's 1949 application for U.N. membership lists Tibet as a country that Nepal had full diplomatic relations with. The chief Nepalese diplomat in Lhasa held the title vakil ("ambassador") up until 1962. In 1943, the British embassy in Washington told the U.S. State Department

that, "Tibet is a separate country in full enjoyment of local autonomy,

entitled to exchange diplomatic representatives with other powers."

  • The US State Department issued the following public statement in

December 1950: The United States, which was one of the early supporters of the principle of self-determination of peoples, believes that the Tibetan people has the same inherent right as any other to

have the determining voice in its political destiny, The US Gov. recognizes the defacto autonomy that

Tibet has exercised since the fall of the Manchu Dynasty.

  • yadsik

Ha, Napel? Don't make things up. That is not an "ambassador". You know what, British was facing Nazis' invasion in 1943, who cares what their said, they can shaded your hand said:"I will give you a moon", then he forgot about it tomorrow, that is the reason treaty is in the place. Tibet is an autonomy region since 1951. I don't need to discuss this no sense topic anymore. The most important is every country recognize Tibet is part of China

  • First of all, here are some non-biased citations for my claims:

"Goldstein, Melvyn C. _A History of Modern Tibet, 1913-1951: the Demise of

the Lamaist State_, Berkeley, 1989, xxv + 898 pages. A nonpartisan,

authoritative account by the foremost scholar of modern Tibetan

    history. "

Walt van Praag, Michael C. van. The Status of Tibet: History Rights and

Prospects in International Law, Boulder, 1987, 81 pages. Makes

a thoroughly documented legal case for Tibet's status as an independent

    nation.

  • "Savada, Andrea M. Nepal and Bhutan: Country Studies, Washington,

    1993, p. 186."

    "Atlas of China = Ta-Ch'ing Ti-kuo Ch'uan-t'u_, Shanghai, 1910,

    map I."

    ---------------------------------------------

So, from what you say, it doesn't matter if a sovereign nation is taken over by a foreign power, they are the rightful leaders now? Okay, then give Britain back her Chinese ports, give Japan China Proper, give Germany Poland and France. See the problem here?

  • I am sure you do concur and cannot deny that Tibet was a sovereign nation before 1951. With their own ethnicity, language, religion, art, ceremonies, government and natural land barriers since Nyatri Tsenpo founded a dynasty in Yarlung valley in 416 BCE. It is also evident that the PRC promoted and continues to promote a racist and Han Supremacist view of the world, clear in the books that they published which 'scientifically' prove the inferiority of minorities. IT IS AN ILLEGAL OCCUPATION.

  • Is it true these film were filmed in tibet?

People in the films looks like Manchu, especially their clothes.

  • A very beautiful and very rare films.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • What a beautiful and very rare films. Thank you for sharing these with us.
