  • Aren't the figures correlative? The 6 wealthy people could all be part of the statistic of owning that proportion of computers. It doesn't mean the 6 people only have access to one computer. It means statistically 1% own a computer and statistically 6% have a lot of money and they are not dependent on each other. I suspect all of those 6 people would have a college education, but proportionally with the whole world they fall into the 1% and are not actually 6 people with one education.

  • I've been active my whole life until I had an accident and couldn't do what my metabolism demanded for nearly three years. I put on weight because, shock horror, not doing shit and eating shit means you will put on weight. I then swam a mile a day until I lost 7 stone I had accumulated. It isn't rocket science, fatties. You don't even have to worry about what you eat if you are active enough. It is obscene to blame others when there are children starving every fucking day with no choice. Pricks.

  • At 5:05-5:07, That made me laugh so hard.

  • Americans spend about $40 Billion per year on weight loss products and medical bills related to obesity. $40 Billion would feed all the hungry in Asia and Africa. Yes, Gluttony IS a sin...

  • You make some very interesting points in this video, infact were talking about globalisation and brands/corporate mindwashing ect at the moment at my university so we're disecting your videos in our lectures.

  • Bob..I think your blood sugar is a bit low - have a bar of choclate!!!!

  • Bob ,,what about those who have several college degrees, who cant even change a light bulb, but just theorise abot it lol...

  • On February 11, 2008 the wealthiest people in the world were:

    1. Warren Buffett (USA)

    2. Carlos Slim Helu (Mexico)

    3. Bill Gates (USA)

    4. Lakshmi Mital (India, resides in the UK)

    5. Mukesh Ambani (India)

    6. Anil Ambani (India)

    7. Rinat Akhmetov (Ukraine)

How many fat Indians have you seen?

Its just too easy (trendy even?) to trash Americans. Is it because of the bully foreign policy or because the country is younger and richer than most?

  • An interesting point, but it misses the vital fact that America as a nation is so wealthy, the Indian's you mention are certainly very rich, but if you looked at the top 1 million richest, I think it's fair to say that the majority would be American. Nothing wrong with that, just a fact, and rich American's are always very slim. Weight has nothing to do with individual wealth, but may have something to do with national wealth and cultural habits.

  • My point was definitely more facetious than valid. :) Youre right: USAs clearly heading the wealth race. Its actions have greater global impact & should be held to a higher standard I get that. But are you faulting it for excelling at what each country does? I long to see a people/govt that would self-regulate against needless growth & consumption. But how? Forced equal distribution of resources is impossible (and wrong) Soviet Socialism has taught me that much.

  • True about cultural views contributing to obesity Im naturally ~45lbs lighter when I live in Russia vs the U.S. Russians arent starving its just socially UNacceptabel to be fat there, and the average lifestyle is much more active. And it IS cheaper to eat unhealthy in the U.S. But its absurd to bitch and moan about society making you fat. Thanks for making me think and kudos for the apology vid it looked sincere. Ok, rant over. :)

  • just because someone doesn't have a college education doesn't mean their thick.

  • Good point, however, I couldn't help wanting to correct one thing.

"Just because someone doesn't have a college education doesn't mean their thick." is not quite correct. It should read doesn't mean they are thick, or they're. Sorry, and I didn't have a college education.

  • Ah, yes, sorry. I forgot to read it over when I posted it. :S

  • "Someone" is singular, not plural, so it actually requires "he" or "she" with it. I know it's petty to correct but it was just too tempting. Sorry! I absolutely agree with Chantallylace, though.

  • and only 10 would speak english.

  • a lil bubba bein bawn!

  • oh my god! i think that was the most fun i have had while sitting still!

  • Well im not sure if you will ever read this bobby but i watched the apology first then this video , you have nothing to appologise for regards fat people , quite right what you said , in my honest opionion if you dont like being fat then eat less . !

  • yeah, i watched "apology" first, and would have to agree with you 100%.

  • haha i did the same and feel the same.

  • Freedom = Wealth. The freer the country, the richer they are, or will be. Socialism means less wealth for all, and it will still be hoarded by the few.

  • LMAO let em have it Bobby!!!

"half the fucking world havent got enough to eat you fat fuck!"

    love it

now make red dwarf series 9 "only the good" said to be continued :P

  • hahahahahaahahahahahahahaahahaa, dont moan to me about ya fuckin weight problems, and like thousands of people did and he had to make an apology XD

  • hahaha .. gotta laugh man .. even the poor in american are fat now ... and then they bitch about it .. yet they were fed enough to fatten up while africans starve ... what a wonderful world .. i saw a verwion of this in a flash thing .. it seemed more updated with like 4 with computers and college education .. i have a computer ... but no college tho .. um ... yeah .. i want 59% of the worlds wealth .. that could be nice ..

  • Well if you think about it if 1 was near death and 1 near birth then the global population wouldnt be increasing... but wait it is? so... isnt that a little bit contradictory already?

  • If the rise is below 1%, then it is not.

  • when you see a nit you have to pick it dont you

  • Oh boy.

Your rant really cracked me up here Mr Lewellyn and I don't think the several bottle of beers I have had effected my judgement in any way.

Some folk seem to take it way too serious, forget them fools lol.

Long Live Red Dwarf, Long Live Scrap Heap !

  • I gotta say, no matter how taboo the overweight bit was, i couldn't help but laugh as you said it. though to be honest, (and i have no evidence to back this up) i reckon most people that are overweight are so because of junk food, so would it really help to send said junk food to a country where those peoples bodies would probably reject it straight away due to whatever crapola is in it?

  • Rant on baby, rant on! I find it quite refreshing.

  • It's an interesting idea. The thing is, that village of 100 people, most living in Dickensian poverty, isn't a stable situation. There are places in the world where you get such an extreme split, all within one country. A good example would be Venezuela. So one of those 100 people will be the Hugo Chavez of the village and will be elected. The local Gazette (owned by those 6 rich people) will then spend all of it's time trying to convince everyone that the new leader is worse than Hitler.

  • midianholic: Llewellyn is cool, he probably just had a bad day. No offence to be taken - chin up matey!

  • I'm gobsmacked....:(

  • midianholic. David Ross wasn't near as good as Llewellyn. And what do you mean he killed Red Dwarf. He was funny, he got some of the best lines. He mocked more than fat people, he did do stereotypical gay and he went on about thick people but no one else bloody complains.

  • David Ross was great, if he was so poor why was he asked back ?

I also thought the prosthetic was superb for his Kryten.

Llew has the humour of a dead baby, to quote Davy Freeth from The Sweeney episode "Hard Men"

  • I know if I reply to this in any way it will get your goat, which is tempting. You're a very angry person, you have issues which have nothing to do with body weight. I have issues which occasionally get aired here, but your comments make me laugh out loud. They are refreshing and funny. I am chuckling as I type.

  • Glad to be of service.

  • Asked back? To play the toaster?

Llewellyn's Kryten was excellent, and I think it was the last piece of the puzzle, the thing that made Red Dwarf perfect.

Seasons 3-7 are my favourites anyways.

  • poignant. very poignant.

  • Sorry Bob I meant to post a thumbs down but clicked in the wrong place. I don't want to comment on this stupid persons views

  • midianholic,

Log off, dip your balls in honey and go tea bag a red ant hill so that my children don't have to worry about putting up with another generation of stupid on this magnitude. You fat fuck.

  • "...blah...highly intelligent...blah..."

More like 'clearly retarded'. Nice try though, attemping to declare yourself intelligent.

  • "However no one takes your rant seriously."

If people don't take mine seriously, I dread to think what other people make of your comments.

Oh btw, a rant is going on and on about a topic, just as you have done. Aww.. don't like being called out for what you actually are? Don't cry, just stuff your face full and shit the world's troubles down the toilet. Fat twat.

  • Say WHAT?

Bobby didn't do ANYTHING to kill red dwarf you stupid fuck, the more dwarf is on, the more work, therefore more money for Bobby to spend on his family, and support his kids though a decent education,

And he said fuck all about you being fat and ok with it, he had a go at these fat people who whinge about being fat, all the while stuffing their chops with cake.

YOU are a peice of shit.

    Fuck you.

  • Robert Robert....I am overweight but not due to food thanks. Dont tar us all with that brush

  • i sent you this lew :)

  • "The medium is the message"... I think we can now safely say... that was a load of old pretentious bollocks! There were characters in history that did the same, spoke in ambiguous prose and if they were in favour or surrounded by enough chin strokers the idea would catch on, self fulfilling prophecy. If you have a system to ram a belief down the throats of people whose purpose in life is to swallow such brain farts it perpetuates.. until the internet comes along and pisses on them there chips!

  • He didn't say the medium is the message, he said it was part of the message. And he's right.

    E.G.

    ASCII art

    Photoshopped pics

    Candid/edited videos

    Memes

    Blogs/Vlogs

The nature of the medium as as much to do with the message as the message itself.

There was nothing abiguous about it, but I suppose it's impossible to convey any message to a certain number of people no matter what...

It may help to have an attention span longer than that of a fruit fly.

  • Was that a lame insult directed at me there? Maybe it doesn't translate so well between media, written word from your cognitive regurgitation of a cliche that is proving as inaccurate as your half arsed stab at a dismissive insult. That said it was the sort of closing remark a chin stroker would muster.

  • Before you go assuming I'm A.D.D. maybe you should question your own comprehension, maybe it's the fact that this is YouTube and a convergence of media's that confuses you as you sit there cross armed and befuddled trying to understand what the media communicates here... hmmm?? It helps if your able to converse in the abstract that remains within the confines of the same conversation.

  • In other words I wasn't picking holes in Bob's use of the phrase, I was casting a light on the way that statement is a load of nonsense, illumination thanks to the convergence of media. "The media is the message" is a cultural reference, that's it, A bit like quoting Gladwell's "the tipping point" but of course Gladwell's statement was fuelled by fact rather than fitting an idea to reality in plausible fashion.

    That is all.

  • bigbox: MacLuhan was especially right on target with the power of television as opposed to the medium of print. The nature of the technology interacts directly with content in the case of TV.

  • Insult? Congratulations, you've completely missed the point!

What do you know; I guess some messages are best confined to other forms of communication.

  • McLuhan formed conclusions from commonality between existing media, he wasn't lucky enough to live in an age when all media's were thrown into the same ecosystem.

I would love to have a battle of wits with you but it would be bad form of me because you are quite obviously unarmed.

  • "I would love to have a battle of wits with you but it would be bad form of me because you are quite obviously unarmed."

Oh, what a pity... And you were doing so well.

No need to excuse yourself under the guise of avoiding bad form now, as you clearly bathed in it with your original post.

You did bother to respond with double posts to my original post, in bizarre tangents, since you were quite obviously "touched" so what happend now?

  • Honestly, Robert, were you an American actor, this would have been broadcast on every channel and talked about on every blog...you'd be castigated by Bill O'Reilly, griped about on Rush Limbaugh, and discussed endlessly on CNN - and not in a good way. I hear your argument - hell, I'm overweight myself - but just be grateful you live in the UK (for that, and other reasons). They'd eat you alive on the networks over here for that. I swear. Doesn't mean your comment wasn't right though, Robert. -T

  • Over here in Britain we don't delibratly try and destroy celebrities like they do in America!

  • Yeah, I've never figured out the point of that, either. It seems like we just put people on a pedestal here in order to knock them down. Of course, it's not that the UK is immune to tabloid fodder. In fact, I daresay that you guys *invented* it. We just perfected it. Either way, Robert's comment was true and correct, IMO.

  • flicky: true true, so true.

  • rogue: For sure. The subtext of Limbaugh's view is, "If you are vulnerable, you should be harmed."

  • hey i dont care for fat people either ,i use to be fat and did something about it .Dont apologize about how you feel your still human, and if they werent sittin on their fat asses lookin for drama they wouldnt be fat. DISCOVER THE SECRET PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...you apologised for 3 minutes on a half a minute throwaway comment?

...Why? It seems that people were looking for something to get their knickers in a twist about.

  • Excellent rant. I see no need for the later apology.

  • bout 20 "fucks" in that one Bobby, ur a lose cannon mate!, lol

  • yeah...was a bit put out by that

  • The "fat" comment was the funniest part of the video! I near spat my tea out with laughter!

Never having been fat or overweight myself, i really do wonder why people who start to get fat, just don't stop? It's got nothing to do with chemicals in the brain! Eat in moderation ! I have no sympathy whatsoever for fat people, they created the problem themselves!

  • flicky: It has nothing to do with will power or other of your imagined causes. It's just an illness like any other. It's a treatable illness, altho' a psychological one.

  • unless you have experience of an issue what gives you the knolwedge to comment on it . that would make your opinion at best ill informed .

  • please note i said knowledge not right .

  • I spat out coffee...clearly people like to literalize...he wasn't digging at people who have weight problems due to physiological reasons. I got what Robert was saying...he is talking about people like in the Uk and the US (my country) that can afford to eat and some of eat like pigs because we can. But when we have the opportunity to demand that starving people elsewhere in the world get food so they don't starve to death a lot of us turn a blind eye to it and make another sandwhich...

  • I hope poor Mac MacDonald doesn't see your "fat" rant! :-p

  • True...and don't I remember hearing stories of Kryten having to have a new suit fitted because of weight gain around series 5?

There's a distinction to be made between being greedy and being overweight.

  • True. Tubby Kryten, shame on me.

  • McLuhan said type was "hot," but TV (or now, computer images) were "cool," by which he meant involving. More to the point, the manner in which TV is presented interacts with human transduction rates and expectancy mechanisms to "draw you in." Perceptions of randomness are heightened thru the use of quick cuts, and/or incongruous imagery. Challenges to the perceptual system may be related to the strengthening of stimulus-response bonds. And then you want to buy something!

  • O-o I almost understood that...

  • Haha, a lot of swearing in this video Bobby! I'm not offended or anything, just thought it was kinda funny though.

  • I always understood McLuhan to be about the message's meaning being derived from the form in which it is delivered, a bit like what you were saying about your black background. So a boring squared-off piece of times new roman text will say 'this is boring text' no matter what it actually says, according to him. So in my opinion, you're probably right when you say it's PART OF the message rather than IS the message, although from what I gather, he was pretty strict on the IS.

  • Another great video Rob! I can't help ut find it amusing that you still get riled by the "champagne socialist" comment! That's pretty mild... I've got a video of me attempting to do Papa Lazarou on my page (it's not very good but was done for the hell of it). I got a comment the other day saying it was f**king shit and that I needed to top myself. Then yesterday I got called an ugly bitch..

Pray tell me what I did to deserve that! :P

  • Interesting video. And eh, don't ever throw that lovely black screen away!!!

  • Fantastic video, really did "laugh out loud", I'm not sure you should encourage men to be fussy, I'm still looking for Mr Right, can't wait for your next installment.

  • rightnutter: You're a female?

  • This shows how old I am because I remember this email that went around.

  • Is it just me or do videos seem to get less hits now that everything on youtube is now split off into countries.

  • What do you mean?

  • Awesome video Rob, awesome. One of your best.

  • Nice vid. It's all a numbers game! Those figures that confuse you. Did you know that there are several millionaires in the UK who don't have a formal education. They have common sense and scruples :-)

did you ever have that email (probably 10 years ago!) that compared the earth to a 45 year old person? Humans would only have inhabited the earth in the last 60 seconds and have changed the surface in only the way an ice ace could! tried to google it but couldn't find it. Keep on with the book!

  • Yet another interesting video, thankyou Rob! It'd be intriguing to see how those figures have changed in the past few years.

    Keep up the good work!

  • And one man who swears like a trooper. Absolutely hysterical.

You have the look of a man who spent a year spending nothing and now have the rest of your life with a bag of cash and the keys to Toys r us.

    Love it.

  • Bobby, me thinks their is still a problem with your mic.Ground hum would suggest it's not plugged into camera properly (or shield has come off in jack).

  • Have you read Oliver James's two books: 'Affluenza' and the very recent 'The Selfish Capitalist'? I think you'd find the interesting

    if you haven't.

    Peter

  • It's hard imagine Kryten swearing so much--he's seems so nice.

  • Great video as always! Thanks Rob. :-)

  • Just a note on the College education bit, you have to take it in context, in a world of 100 people you have to split the ratios of money yes 6 people would have 59% of the wealth; but the college education just been one person that is true because its the ratio of our world vs this 100 people world. Its different in our world because there are more people therefore those people containing the wealth could have the money. All a bit odd ratio's they often appear to conradict

  • I think that you must thimk your audience is a tad younger than they really are. For some reason it kind of struck a nerve when you were on your rant and said something about "1970, before you were born..." my gues is that afair number of us watching are pre-1960 vintage.

That said, can't wait for your book to come out!!

  • the reason we don't go to church in this country is because its all a load of lies and bollocks

  • Amen!

  • You ever been to church?

  • re; the college education thing, verry few successful entreopenuers finish formal education. i fgire most "catch up" after they get a fair measure of success tho, like Warren Buffett.

  • your not old... are you? acording to the internet lol ur 51 i wouldent call that old.

  • I hope 51 is not old as I am 52 and I don't feel old.

  • oh thank God-I'm 47 and still trying to settle on what to do with my life, again.

  • another great video, and it makes ya think. nice one Sir Rob

  • Nice video!

  • It does make sense for only 1 person out of 100 to own a computer, and to have a college education. It's ratios. We know that China has a huge population. How many would have a college education? Remember that the "white" are outnumbered in the "village", so the education ratio will be lower.

The same would apply to the computers - more westerners have computers than eastern european/african/asian, so ratios will show that since caucasians are outnumbered, the number of computers will be low.

  • Only one person with a computer!?

I while back now there was an article somewhere about a company that was making disposable laptop computers for people in the poorer regions of the world so they could find out about the rest of the world, learn more things and talk to other types of people...not sure what happened with that, but it surprised me.

  • great!

We waste so much, if only we could all live the same...

  • The Medium is the Message came back from the printers as The Medium is the Massage. McLuhan liked it, thought it helped prove his point and so it remains to this day.

  • I have to pick up on this I'm afraid. You thought there would be fewer Christians, not less Christians. You've just been pedanted.

  • And a thank you for making the video :)

  • funny man... ha ha ha

    5 of the stars yes...

  • Funny start for the video , i wasint sure if you where trying to change into the Incredible Hulk or appear as some old guy in a pub experiancing a really stiff Shit in the gents , that last part wasint indeeded to be rude , as such ! . . .

Cheers , Jason [ Doctor Who One ]

  • "you fat fuck" lol

  • There is a video on youtube about this already:

    /watch?v=rvTFKpIaQhM

  • It's 5..95 now.

  • Read all this stuff before.. but! It's been a while.. and I really liked all the little things you added (: Making it more real.. more human. Good video :)

  • classic as always

  • Perhaps 3 of them are porn stars and the other 2 won the lottery. lol

  • 6 people would have 59% of the wealth, and they would all be US citizens? Something fishy there. If the Western Hemisphere is assigned 14 people, that would mean the population of the USA is 43% of the population of the Americas, which is about 10% over-estimated. One US citizen is going to need to be a half.

  • Isn't what he's saying a valid point?

Take what he said in moderation, some people have conditions (fair enough), were as some just bluntly over-eat.

Also I glanced at your channel and realise why you would "attempt" defend.

  • most of the world's fatsos are not part of the world's wealthiest people. people who eat good, rich, expensive, fresh food all the time don't have to learn how to store fat cells, because their bodies have never been starved for nutrition. people who sometimes have access to food and who sometimes starve will learn how to store fat more productively. and yes, i only say this because I'm a fat bastard, not because I have or can use my brain.

  • Don't worry I'm not trying to offend, but it's an issue which needs much more research, and attention.

The percentage of overweight people is higher in the US isn't it?

  • I don't know for sure. The news is always saying that the "US is getting fatter and is the fattest in the world" so who knows. People rarely do any actual reporting on the issues. Usually they look for a snippet of truth and run a headline based on that. But anyone who can afford to count themselves as "rich" can also buy a thin body. And of course I'm not even touching the iceberg of eating disorders.

  • "people who eat good, rich, expensive, fresh food all the time don't have to learn how to store fat cells, because their bodies have never been starved for nutrition."

That is the biggest load of CRAP I have ever heard.

  • revcom: It is much cheaper to eat crap food (cheap pastry items, noodles, canned goods, etc.) than to eat fresh produce, fresh fish, etc.

  • Well, interesting... perhaps you heard the latest survey out of London - 23% of Brits think that Winston Churchill and Florence Nightengale were myths, and 47% also thought King Richard the Lionheart was a myth. 58% thought Sherlock Holmes was real, and in the top 10 "mythical" people ranked Ghandi and the Duke of Wellington (Waterloo). Some didn't even think Charles Dickens was real. Hmmm... I'm not sure what that says about the British education system...

  • genius as always Rob. Had to laugh when you got angry at the fat people in the village hahaha:)

  • Wow, you're swearing like i do when i'm PMTing! Still, i enjoy the global village concept but the version i heard before was dedicated to increasing the 30 christians by "spreading the word of God" which isn't really my thing (Devoutly Atheist)

  • yes i remeber this, we had it read out to us in my school one day, i must have been in year 9 so that would have been around 2002 so yer quiet old.

  • love you- you're hilarious!! i was watching the red dwarf smeg ups last night- realizing you had quite a few lol! keep making these vids, i love watching them!! debz

  • interesting video bobby, keep up the good work the youtube community wouldnt be the same without good old bob.

  • I know i hate been in a video writer block if that makes sense. Your new camera seems good, what did you do with your old one or did it break?

Good video as usual of course, put it into perspective how lucky we are.

  • Woahhh, I was shown something EXACTLY the same as this in my English class today! It's a pretty neat way of putting things into perspective.
