From where her feet are placed it doesn't appear this machine has a foot controlled brake at all- the first instinct of anyone who does a lot of riding downhill and slick surfaces is to hit the rear brake, controlled by foot. This thing probably has very awkward controls and handlers like a dumptruck. Yeah she veered but this looks like a tough gig to me.

Are we even sure the camera broke? They DO have insurance for this kind of thing.

It's anyone's fault but the stunt double. It's the camera operator's fault for moving closer to the bike while it was moving, it was the stunt coordinator and DP's faults for doing a shot where such an expensive camera would be so dangerously close to a fast-moving vehicle, etc.

@techi9 Don't think for a moment that a grip gets the liberty to decide where he places his camera, that's all director. I remember reading an interview years ago with one of hollywood's top grips, describing the crazy things directors will do (and put their grips in danger) to get the right shot. He described one movie where they taped a camera to a chair and rolled it off into an elevator shaft to film the fall, he said he was surprised the director didn't make him hold it instead.

@batvette Hey, just a heads up, a grip won't ever touch the camera. Grips are in charge of moving around equipment that affects how the lighting looks, but they won't ever touch a camera, especially not on a big union show.

The director of photography will decide, along with the director, where to put the camera for a shot, and then the camera team will move it there - this team is made up of an AC, 2nd AC and camera op, although sometimes the director of photography will operate themselves.

@pseudomunkey thanks for the info, have only worked on location for a few weeks some years back (Dreamworks "Almost Famous", first unit when they were in san diego, was a vehicle extra) so my knowledge is not real deep there. was replying to a comment blaming the cameraman for getting too close, didn't think they make that call as you seen to confirm. Tough business! The crew I watched were top notch though, John Toll was director of photography, had recently won back to back oscars.

While making 'The Dark Knight', an IMAX camera was accidently destroyed then too during the scene where Batman drives his Tumbler through the tunnel, following the Joker's 'Slaughter' truck. (Only that time, the camera was completely trashed but the Tumbler, annihilated!) If you have the Blu-ray, you can find this in the features.

So this isn't the first time there has been camera accident in these films. This time wasn't that severe though. Camera probably needs reparing though...
