I seriously hate the management problems, whatever it might be. It caused all havok to wreck loose. The actors and actresses just come and go and sometimes it's a real turn-off.
4:22 I've always thought, from when I was young, that Tommy was made the new leader of the power rangers because he was the most popular and it would increase ratings, instead of because of Jason, Zack and Trini leaving. But I guess it worked out both ways.
As a kid I always imagined that the three of them got killed by lord Zedd's tougher monsters at the beginning of the season rather then getting put on a bus.
This does explain how Tommy suddenly had a sudden personality shift when going from green to white, while also explaining why Tommy was appearing more often when he became the white rangers.
In my opinion, SABAN should have stopped trying so hard to keep mighty morphin going for so long. They should have kept the same actors and had them inherent the dairanger powers, costumes, etc. Would have been a whole lot easier for them to do.
it funny i was on netflix today and i saw when jason hit the lipstick monster and i laughed wow, (sarcastically " i wonder what was cut footage " lol)
After The Power Transfer episode, the next 10 episodes were focused on Rocky, Adam, and Aisha. This is basically to showcase the audiences on what these 3 new Rangers could do. From here on, the tone of the series became lighter and lighter. Overall, Season 2 underwent the most amount of changes.
Austin, Walter, and Thuy only appear on set for like 19 episodes in Season 2. And starting from Zedd's Monster Mash to The Power Transfer (Part 2), it became very obvious that Austin, Walter, and Thuy have long left the series. My eyes nearly fooled me when I actually thought that Jason, Zack, and Trini were actually in the episode.
I think I get it now. Starting from The Power Stealer Episode, SABAN started using the MMPR Full Theme Song by Ron Wasserman for all the Morphing and Thunderzord sequence. And after the dismissal of Jason, Zack, and Trini, the tone of the series became lighter and lighter. Rocky, Adam, and Aisha made the series look like a joke.
Funny thing is even when I was small I knew that something is wrong when ever I didn't see my favorite ranger Jason and like you said sound completely different.
For anyone hoping to watch Dairanger, if DtKnigdom's channel gets taken down or loses the Dairanger eps, TV-Nihon at time of writing has 40 episodes subbed with DVD-ripped footage.
@StevenUlyssesPerhero Unfortunately, DtKingdom's channel was taken down around a year ago, so thanks for mentioning this. Hopefully it will help some people out.
@MistareFusion Annotating "TV-Nihon.com" over "DtKingdom's channel" in the videos would probably help more people, though as far as I know they've never done any Kakuranger and they're only ten episodes in on Zyuranger with it looking to be one of their bottom-priority projects along with Kamen Rider Kuuga and Agito. Ah well, they'll have Dairanger done soon enough, even if it was incredibly weak story-wise.
@EATIT41 It's a kirin or qilin (look up the latter on wikipedia for more info, as Kirin is the Japanese rendering, which makes sense for a Japanese show). It's a creature from Chinese mythology, often used as a good luck omen.

Of course, that would have created more problems for when they adaptated Kakuranger, so maybe it was really for the best it didn't happen that way...
@MistareFusion Ok..after some research I realized that I was correct but I was thinking of the chinese pronouciation. "CHI" and "KI" are correct in their Chinese and Japanese rspectively.
@SexyJutsuNaruto Yes they still use stock footage....however they incorporate more original footage...like the new power rangers samurai series...they have exclusive american suits for when they call on their zords
And to close my comments, the 3 parter "A Friend in Need" was actually part of Season 2, but used for the premiere of Season 3 instead, and definitely would have given Season 2 a better ending:
- Rangers teaming up with another hero (And this would be a first as at the time Kamen Rider and Super Sentai didn't have a crossover with one another).
- Bulk and Skull's search for the PRs identities ends.
@SexyJutsuNaruto They do a combination. They use some stock footage along with their own original footage. They also reuse props, costumes, and monsters.
I had a feeling Austin St. John, Thuy Trang, and Walter Jones were fired. But why? I like Austin St. John more than Steven Cardenas. And when I ask people who the prefer... Jason or Rocky? Most of the time I get Jason? And, I definitely prefer Thuy Trang over Karan Ashley any day.
@ForeverYellow1993: Case by Case in my opinion. Rocky's a good character in his own right, but Jason was the more memorable Red Ranger and even got to lead the team. Zack was okay, but Adam easily became the better character which is likely due to the actor being one of the few cast members to really enjoy the show and was willing to stay on for more episodes. Heck, word is that Adam was to have stepped up as the Red Turbo Ranger, but Saban decided to just replace all 4 veteran rangers.
@SexyJutsuNaruto Unfortunately, I'm not the perfect one to ask because I don't really know much of Sentai/Power Rangers outside of the time frame in which these videos take place. I'm fairly sure they still use Sentai footage for the mecha/zords. But I know I've seen clips of costume footage that were almost exactly the same scriptwise that were, for some reason, reshot entirely for Power Rangers, so it does seem like they use less than they used to. But I can't guarantee that.
For me, Season 2 where I started figuring out something was up. I remember going to a hobby shop that sold Japanese action figures and saw an action figure of Ryu Ranger and thinking "There's a red version of the white ranger? That's weird." The package also showed all 6 Dairangers with the thunderzords.
i just watched the episodes white light 1and 2 yesterday and could totally tel that zack trini and jasan's voices were WAY off ! great vids bro keep it up
my only problem with season 2 (other than the worst character replacement EVER in the history of TV) is that Saban should've really waited for the Zyu2 footage to run out BEFORE doing the zord change-ups. it would've made so much more sense, editing wise. and just have been better overall.
Im so glad I'm not the only person on the face of the earth who noticed that Tommy's promotion to leader was edited in AFTER Jason left.
It's so obvious but everyone else thinks it was done on purpose. It drives me nuts at times.
Oh and I'll never forget how terrible the voice impersonators were. Not only did they sound nothing like them but they were stereotypical voices too. What they did to Trini's voice was disgraceful and there's no way anyone could mistake Jason's war cries for that.
Personally i liked the keeping of the Zyrurangers and the KibaRanger. I take pride in the Power Ranger series and the of course the integration of the KibaRanger with the other Zyrurangers obviously means its original Power Ranger footage and not reused Sentai footage. Its just a nice reminder that Saban and Power Rangers isnt a total plagiarism of Super Sentai, y'know.
when i was a kid i always wanted them to keep the original suits but always changed the zords as time flew by...example (power rangers in space with mmpr suits)
@pastordomino Are you following my series of commentary I've been releasing on this series over the past couple of weeks? If so, stay tuned. If not, start watching! Because it's funny you should mention that. There were a lot of things I didn't have time to cover in these videos, but the nature of Tommy's clothing is something I go into detail in in the commentary for this video, which I should be releasing pretty soon, if not in a couple of days then next week. But you're fairly on target.
lol "The group exhibits the same kind of intelligence when they couldn't figure out who the green ranger was because *GAAAAAASP* it's Tommy...." I don't know why I found that whole quote funny XD I guess its just the way you gave it such a deadpanned end lol.
@6arcsn1sky Dont forget, Japanese Spiderman helped launch the official Super Sentai series. Spiderman piloted a giant robot to combat enlarged villians. That idea of the hero piloting a giant robot was merged with the tokusatsu super hero style of Goranger and JAKQ to form the first and subsequent Super Sentai Series's. And on as side not, Dairanger was a great series. Shame on Saban for cutting it up...haha
@nishjaxx Yeah, I know Spider-Man and Captain America were the ones to make the series on what they are today. Interesting that Toei decided to include Goranger and J.A.K.Q. since they were like the foundation to the series. I feel your pain that Saban should had included the five Dairanger suits for season two.
@pastordomino Phew. It's been so long since I did these that I had to look it up. It's "Opposites Attract." I do remember coming across anecdotal evidence that Jason Frank was actually scripted to say the phrase, but Austin St. John balked so much that his line was being taken away that they acquiesced. But I couldn't find anything to back up that claim, so I didn't include it in the video. Make of it what you will.
@PUNXrAlive Marketing stunt. It's all just business. If they thought that bringing back Austin St. John might bump up ratings, then they'd do it. I do remember seeing an interview with him that said he got a call one day from their offices asking if he'd like to come back for half a season, and he said yes.
dude, u have way to much time! ... but i have to admid, i love what u did here. 3 days ago i bumped into a clip from zyuranger. i always knew power rangers was half japanese, half american. cause when i was a kid, i saw alot of episodes of bioman 3: liveman, (01:11) thats what they called it on that french channel. but now i got curious. and your videos contain everything i needed to know. and that explained why scorpina suddenly dissapeared. (why does she turns ulgy when she grows?) great job!
Really good explanation. It's amazing how much hard work and effort Saban did to create a clusterfuck of a plotline from two different Sentai seasons you'd wonder why they never thought of just transitioning into Dairangers. Dairangers had some really cool costumes too.
@drunkenstyle I never realized how much of a rushed job season 2 was. It more almost no resemblance to Dairanger, plot or feel wise, and was just used for stock footage. They may as well have skipped Dairanger and adapted some past Sentai (adapting Jetman would have made more sense since they were planning for that to be season 1)
they should of up graded the cast into dairangers, that way they could of used some more footage and use less of the crap american footage, and i think it proboblly would of avoided some contravercial isshues if the upgrade was done

I never understood the thing with Scorpina. I mean by what you're saying it makes some sense, but they brought her back for a one time appearance in "Goldar's Vice Versa". Knowing that, they could have just kept her around and gave her the Rita treatment (post "The Wedding").
@StarFighters76 Me either. I watched that episode while prepping for this video, but the clip was so lo-res, I really couldn't tell how different the new Scorpina looked from the original Lami. Assuming what I postulated was correct, I can only think of a couple of possibilities as to why they'd bring her back.Maybe they thought enough time had passed that kids wouldn't remember what she looked like but then didn't like the results. Or maybe someone on the writing staff just had a thing for her.
Ami Kawai actually showed up beginning "The Mutiny". In "Vice Versa" Sabrina Lu? didn't fight at all in that episode. Also weird since they just got rid of 3 Rangers
A lot of people should try to remember that a lot of this was in the VHS era as well. When shown on TV, we couldn't see Japanese kanji and people's faces in the background, because of the lo res
Also, I've also been noticing how few episodes they actually used the White Tiger zord
The cast switch-over started in episode 221, Zedd's Monster Mash. Episode 220, Opposites Attract, was the last episode with Austin St John, Walter Jones, and Thuy Trang on set in the same episode.
@TheCrazycrazynites Is that so? I noticed the similarity when I watched Linkara's video, but I didn't think it was the same one. Sentai often used the wrist-mounted transformation devices, so I just passed it off as another one of those. But I guess the Gingaman counterpart wasn't technically a member, so he didn't transform? And that's why they had to give him an Aura Changer in America? (I don't know much about Gingaman or Lost Galaxy.)
@MistareFusion in Gingaman the black knight used his sword to transform, my guess is they introduced the morpher to transtion a change between the first magna defender and the second one (the first one died and he passed on his powers to the red ranger's brother) and of course for toy revenue.
When I got back into Power Rangers not too long ago, I decided that S2 was the weakest of the MMPR era, and recently I realized why. Exactly five things happen in the course of the season's 52 episodes:
1. Lord Zedd arrives
2. The rangers get new zords
3. Tommy changes colors
4. Cast change
5. Rita returns and marries Zedd
And that's it. The rest is just kinda stalling for time.
@KnightofDuroch And it's easy to see how it happened. Once Saban had gotten over the hurdles of realigning the status quo and maintaining the formula for another season, they found themselves without any real overarching plot or a clear ending to build towards, just a bunch of filler. This is lack of plot is further evidenced by Season 2's sorry batch of multi-part episodes (aside from 'The Mutiny' and 'White Light').
@KnightofDuroch Actually, it was for that reason I found it the most interesting (of those I ever watched). That was a huge step up from season 1, which was just
1. Fight Rita
2. Embarrass Bulk and Skull
3. Tommy may or may not be there.
Don't forget that S1 was almost entirely episodic, going so far as to remove connections that had existed between Zyuranger episodes (which is why you have "Super Putties" being introduced twice). Yeah, it wasn't until S3 that storyarcs ever happened
I'm partial to S1 because there was more weapon & zord fights from the more experienced Toei & it wasn't cut up because Mighty Morphin switched to Dairenroh footage
Rita Repulsa/Machiko Soga is a classic
I'd also like to mention that apparently the episode the Power Stealer has a lot of American footage
1) for the captured Rangers: I guess there's no Z Putties in Japan
2) the close up shots of when Octophantom and the Megazord hit each other
maybe this was mentioned before, that Brad Hawkings was supposed to be the White Ranger, supporting that the original White Ranger was not supposed to be the leader.
Going back and looking at this show again, I've become aware of another technique that goes hand-in-hand with your Reverse Angle Syndrome. Very often this season, they'd only fight a monster on the ground as rangers, or full-size with the megazord, but rarely both. This of course was so they could use full fights from one sentai or another without having to rely so much on those strange cutaways.
I remember Scorpina did appear on 1 episode in season 2. But I remember they used stock footage of her when she got large, but most of it was new footage of her and Goldar fighting the White Ranger.
@kdoggjr Yes. Aside from the premiere, she did appear in a single episode, wherein she plays a new girl (Sabrina) who appears to seduce Adam, and they did indeed shoot some original footage with her. I can't for the life of me figure out what wild hair they got on their ass to suddenly include her and then as suddenly drop her again. But it was so random and so limited, and I simply didn't have time to mention it, which is why I said they "essentially" dropped her.
but in retrospect I'm surprised my parents let me watch it. He's a bit of an emo, to the point where he could be mentally ill and destructive a la that Christian Slater character in Heathers
There could be a anybody can be a good guy theme to the show, but I really doubt that's what they were going for.
How the show was timeslotted for me, I watched Morphin', VR Troopers and Syber Squad all in a row
@Macktube You want him to watch another 90 episodes of VR Troopers? Than 3 SEASONS of Metal Heroes? None of which are subbed?
HOW HARD CAN THAT BE?
j/k
I'm working on a Defending Dark Heart video. I just gotta get the cajones to voice it and script to speak it
Battle Begins, Quest for Power, Rise of Red Python, Kaitlin Through the Looking Glass and the atrocious Season finale that made Mighty Morphin's look like cake not lied
@bkev93 Heh, yeah. She's not quite a match, but, interestingly, she'll end up having more Power Rangers screentime than Soga did. I'm pretty sure it was the same actress who played her at the beginning of season 2, but, just like with Jason, Trini, and Zack, they kept her back to the audience. Heh, there are so many details I could have picked up on, but too bad/thank goodness for these ten minute time limits.
I love these videos. It helps me learn about all the stuff I had no idea about. How much parts will there be? Also, will you do this with other shows?
@BlackKnightKomms I'm so glad you're enjoying this series. The next part will most likely be the last of this series. I have no idea if I'll end up doing the same thing with other series, as in this kind of analysis. I can't really think of any other shows I'm very familiar with that have had this kind of reversioning. However, I have analyzed, reviewed, and made fun of other fandom of mine, like Batman, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Dragon Ball. Don't know if any of those are up your alley.
@MistareFusion I've only seen little of Star Trek so I can't say much. I saw the 09 movie. But Batman, Star Wars, and Dragon Ball are all things I love. Maybe you could do something with those 53 edited episodes of DBZ or even the edited TV broadcast movies or something. That would be awesome. Or you could do a Star Wars thing. Although I don't really know what.
@BlackKnightKomms Well, my very first review was a huge pick apart I did last April of the opening of Return of the Jedi, so maybe you'd like that. It certainly got a lot of praise from the Star Wars message board I post at.
@BlackKnightKomms Heh, it always inevitably goes back to Dragon Ball. My legacy. My curse. ^_~ Well, in a way, yes. A year ago we were joking that Dragon Ball Kai was like a lighter version of what Saban and FUNimation did with missing scenes and censoring. Obviously it's much less. If you're referring to the current broadcast airing on Nicktoons, though, then, yeah, in all seriousness it's not much different from '96-'97 dubbed DBZ in terms of censorship.
@MistareFusion Maybe you could do a comparison between the Saban edit of Z and Nicktoon's Z Kai edit. Or compare and contrast. I would be interested. Maybe for example, Scene A was taken out in Z while Scene A in Z Kai was kept intact and Scene B has the same edit in Z and Z Kai. Maybe you can even spice it up a bit somehow. Also, I agree all the way on your Star Wars review. I always thought the opening was boring.
@BlackKnightKomms I'm not sure if I'd be the best person to do that, I'm afraid. I haven't really followed Kai all that much in over a year, and I don't have television access, much less Nicktoons. I catch a few clips here and there, but I'm no expert. There is, however, a guy on the DaizenshuuEX forums who has made a thread posting images of the first 13 episodes of Kai, comparing the uncut dub to the broadcast dub, with more to come as the domestic releases continue.
@MistareFusion I'm on the forums. I'm ShadowDude112, don't you know me? Anyways I know Tanooki is good at that but I mean along the lines of edited dubs but whatever. Could you possibly review Batman (1989)?
@BlackKnightKomms Haha, sorry I didn't recognize you. I mean, you know, completely different user name and all. I hope that's understandable. I do have Batman (1989) on DVD, so that might come up in some capacity at some point. We'll see. People have been bugging me to finish the second half of my Wonder Woman series for nearly a year now, so, I dunno. I don't plan well enough. =P
I seriously hate the management problems, whatever it might be. It caused all havok to wreck loose. The actors and actresses just come and go and sometimes it's a real turn-off.

They do. It is credited in "Power Rangers: Samurai".
"Footage used: Samurai Sentai Shinkenger" - the japanese original.

But since Disney took over, the series... meh... don't wanna talk about it x)

ForeverYellow1993 6 months ago
@ForeverYellow1993: Case by Case in my opinion. Rocky's a good character in his own right, but Jason was the more memorable Red Ranger and even got to lead the team. Zack was okay, but Adam easily became the better character which is likely due to the actor being one of the few cast members to really enjoy the show and was willing to stay on for more episodes. Heck, word is that Adam was to have stepped up as the Red Turbo Ranger, but Saban decided to just replace all 4 veteran rangers.
Antiyonder 6 months ago
@Antiyonder: But yeah, Trini and Tanya simply were more interesting as characters than Trini.
Antiyonder 6 months ago
@Antiyonder I think they should have made Adam the red turbo ranger instead. Don't get me wrong, I like TJ but, I like Adam more.
ForeverYellow1993 6 months ago
"However, things were about to get even more complicated for Saban, and this time, it would have nothing to do with Sentai stock footage."

That's weird." my only problem with season 2 (other than the worst character replacement EVER in the history of TV) is that Saban should've really waited for the Zyu2 footage to run out BEFORE doing the zord change-ups. it would've made so much more sense, editing wise. and just have been better overall.

@pastordomino Are you following my series of commentary I've been releasing on this series over the past couple of weeks? If so, stay tuned. If not, start watching! There were a lot of things I didn't have time to cover in these videos, but the nature of Tommy's clothing is something I go into detail in in the commentary for this video, which I should be releasing pretty soon, if not in a couple of days then next week. But you're fairly on target.

Actually, Zyuranger was originally the 14th Super Sentai until Goranger and JAKQ were added for the series on late 1994.
6arcsn1sky 10 months ago
@6arcsn1sky Wasn't Goranger the very first sentai series and JAKQ the second? I read it was O.o
YourProblem1 9 months ago
@YourProblem1 At first they weren't because they didn't pilot a giant robot. Battle Fever J was originally the first Super Sentai.
6arcsn1sky 9 months ago
@6arcsn1sky Actually no Goranger was. Goranger was made in 1975 while Battle fever J was made in 1979 ^^
YourProblem1 9 months ago
@YourProblem1 Yes, Goranger started the Sentai genre, but they and JAKQ weren't part of the official line-up until late 1994.
6arcsn1sky 9 months ago
@6arcsn1sky Actually JAKQ was the very second sentai series but it was also the shortest due to it being the worst.

@6arcsn1sky *Nods* :3
YourProblem1 9 months ago
@6arcsn1sky Dont forget, Japanese Spiderman helped launch the official Super Sentai series. Spiderman piloted a giant robot to combat enlarged villians. That idea of the hero piloting a giant robot was merged with the tokusatsu super hero style of Goranger and JAKQ to form the first and subsequent Super Sentai Series's. And on as side not, Dairanger was a great series. Shame on Saban for cutting it up...haha
nishjaxx 9 months ago
@nishjaxx Yeah, I know Spider-Man and Captain America were the ones to make the series on what they are today. Interesting that Toei decided to include Goranger and J.A.K.Q. since they were like the foundation to the series. pastordomino 10 months ago

PUNXrAlive 11 months ago
@PUNXrAlive Marketing stunt. It's all just business. If they thought that bringing back Austin St. John might bump up ratings, then they'd do it. I do remember seeing an interview with him that said he got a call one day from their offices asking if he'd like to come back for half a season, and he said yes.

Really good explanation. It's amazing how much hard work and effort Saban did to create a clusterfuck of a plotline from two different Sentai seasons you'd wonder why they never thought of just transitioning into Dairangers. Dairangers had some really cool costumes too.
drunkenstyle 1 year ago
@drunkenstyle I never realized how much of a rushed job season 2 was. It more almost no resemblance to Dairanger, plot or feel wise, and was just used for stock footage. They may as well have skipped Dairanger and adapted some past Sentai (adapting Jetman would have made more sense since they were planning for that to be season 1)

I never understood the thing with Scorpina. I mean by what you're saying it makes some sense, but they brought her back for a one time appearance in "Goldar's Vice Versa". Knowing that, they could have just kept her around and gave her the Rita treatment (post "The Wedding").
StarFighters76 1 year ago
@StarFighters76 Me either. I watched that episode while prepping for this video, but the clip was so lo-res, I really couldn't tell how different the new Scorpina looked from the original Lami. Assuming what I postulated was correct, I can only think of a couple of possibilities as to why they'd bring her back.Maybe they thought enough time had passed that kids wouldn't remember what she looked like but then didn't like the results. Or maybe someone on the writing staff just had a thing for her.
MistareFusion 1 year ago
@StarFighters76 Chuck Cunningham Syndrome

The dairanger morphers made it to america in Lost galaxy as the magna defender's morpher
TheCrazycrazynites 1 year ago
@TheCrazycrazynites Is that so? I noticed the similarity when I watched Linkara's video, but I didn't think it was the same one. Sentai often used the wrist-mounted transformation devices, so I just passed it off as another one of those. But I guess the Gingaman counterpart wasn't technically a member, so he didn't transform? And that's why they had to give him an Aura Changer in America? (I don't know much about Gingaman or Lost Galaxy.)
MistareFusion 1 year ago
@MistareFusion in Gingaman the black knight used his sword to transform, my guess is they introduced the morpher to transtion a change between the first magna defender and the second one (the first one died and he passed on his powers to the red ranger's brother) and of course for toy revenue.
TheCrazycrazynites 1 year ago
When I got back into Power Rangers not too long ago, I decided that S2 was the weakest of the MMPR era, and recently I realized why. Exactly five things happen in the course of the season's 52 episodes:
1. Lord Zedd arrives
2. The rangers get new zords
3. Tommy changes colors
4. Cast change
5. Rita returns and marries Zedd
And that's it. The rest is just kinda stalling for time.
KnightofDuroch 1 year ago
@KnightofDuroch And it's easy to see how it happened. Once Saban had gotten over the hurdles of realigning the status quo and maintaining the formula for another season, they found themselves without any real overarching plot or a clear ending to build towards, just a bunch of filler. This is lack of plot is further evidenced by Season 2's sorry batch of multi-part episodes (aside from 'The Mutiny' and 'White Light').
KnightofDuroch 1 year ago
@KnightofDuroch Actually, it was for that reason I found it the most interesting (of those I ever watched). That was a huge step up from season 1, which was just
1. Fight Rita
2. Embarrass Bulk and Skull
3. Tommy may or may not be there.
Don't forget that S1 was almost entirely episodic, going so far as to remove connections that had existed between Zyuranger episodes (which is why you have "Super Putties" being introduced twice). Yeah, it wasn't until S3 that storyarcs ever happened
MistareFusion 1 year ago
@KnightofDuroch I think the beginning of Season 2 was really strong:
As mentioned by Fusion
Green With Evil is too long (SELF PROMOTION: Check my Part 5: Bad editing video)
Green Candle has a huge logic bomb that is done better Season 2 with Zedd starting with it
Then it got really weak later imo, because they weren't sure how to replace St John, Trang and Jones
Season 3 is obvious cuz of the Alien Rangers kids and a logic bomb with a really large chord outside the Command Center
PRPHD 1 year ago
I'm partial to S1 because there was more weapon & zord fights from the more experienced Toei & it wasn't cut up because Mighty Morphin switched to Dairenroh footage
Rita Repulsa/Machiko Soga is a classic
I'd also like to mention that apparently the episode the Power Stealer has a lot of American footage
1) for the captured Rangers: I guess there's no Z Putties in Japan
2) the close up shots of when Octophantom and the Megazord hit each other

Planetvideogame 1 year ago
Going back and looking at this show again, I've become aware of another technique that goes hand-in-hand with your Reverse Angle Syndrome. Very often this season, they'd only fight a monster on the ground as rangers, or full-size with the megazord, but rarely both. This of course was so they could use full fights from one sentai or another without having to rely so much on those strange cutaways.

I remember Scorpina did appear on 1 episode in season 2. But I remember they used stock footage of her when she got large, but most of it was new footage of her and Goldar fighting the White Ranger.
kdoggjr 1 year ago
@kdoggjr Yes. Aside from the premiere, she did appear in a single episode, wherein she plays a new girl (Sabrina) who appears to seduce Adam, and they did indeed shoot some original footage with her. I can't for the life of me figure out what wild hair they got on their ass to suddenly include her and then as suddenly drop her again. But it was so random and so limited, and I simply didn't have time to mention it, which is why I said they "essentially" dropped her.

BlackKnightKomms 1 year ago
@BlackKnightKomms I'm so glad you're enjoying this series. The next part will most likely be the last of this series. I have no idea if I'll end up doing the same thing with other series, as in this kind of analysis. I can't really think of any other shows I'm very familiar with that have had this kind of reversioning. However, I have analyzed, reviewed, and made fun of other fandom of mine, like Batman, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Dragon Ball. Don't know if any of those are up your alley.
MistareFusion 1 year ago
@MistareFusion I've only seen little of Star Trek so I can't say much. I saw the 09 movie. But Batman, Star Wars, and Dragon Ball are all things I love. Maybe you could do something with those 53 edited episodes of DBZ or even the edited TV broadcast movies or something. That would be awesome. Or you could do a Star Wars thing. Although I don't really know what.
BlackKnightKomms 1 year ago
@BlackKnightKomms Well, my very first review was a huge pick apart I did last April of the opening of Return of the Jedi, so maybe you'd like that. It certainly got a lot of praise from the Star Wars message board I post at.
MistareFusion 1 year ago
@MistareFusion Ok, I'll check it out. Oh, what do you think of DBZKai's edits? Are they better, worse or in par with Saban's edits?
BlackKnightKomms 1 year ago
@BlackKnightKomms Heh, it always inevitably goes back to Dragon Ball. My legacy. My curse. ^_~ Well, in a way, yes. A year ago we were joking that Dragon Ball Kai was like a lighter version of what Saban and FUNimation did with missing scenes and censoring. Obviously it's much less. If you're referring to the current broadcast airing on Nicktoons, though, then, yeah, in all seriousness it's not much different from '96-'97 dubbed DBZ in terms of censorship.
MistareFusion 1 year ago
@MistareFusion Maybe you could do a comparison between the Saban edit of Z and Nicktoon's Z Kai edit. Or compare and contrast. I would be interested. Maybe for example, Scene A was taken out in Z while Scene A in Z Kai was kept intact and Scene B has the same edit in Z and Z Kai. Maybe you can even spice it up a bit somehow. Also, I agree all the way on your Star Wars review. I always thought the opening was boring.
BlackKnightKomms 1 year ago
@BlackKnightKomms I'm not sure if I'd be the best person to do that, I'm afraid. I haven't really followed Kai all that much in over a year, and I don't have television access, much less Nicktoons. I catch a few clips here and there, but I'm no expert. There is, however, a guy on the DaizenshuuEX forums who has made a thread posting images of the first 13 episodes of Kai, comparing the uncut dub to the broadcast dub, with more to come as the domestic releases continue.
