@KimboRamboFin it has, the wars in the north were mentioned many times in the books and this is what this game is based on, the quest would have failed if not for the the battles that went on in the area's this game will show. The films only made the odd comment regarding the north, but the books Gandalf makes it clear that all would have failed if not for wars in the north, including Dale and Mirkwood
