One thing I just can't stand is any kind of brass section in an otherwise nice raw rock number like this. It's like wearing a ripped tee shirt and jeans with a bow tie.
Well we can see who the hives take their look from....I agree with the comment about the Kinks..They were the Punks of their day! and inspiration for many bands alike...did Blur copy the Kinks....I think so.
Saw the boys (minus Hugh) in downtown manhatten a few years ago with the new lead guy and new guitarist and they were fucking fabulous!!! Best live show I've ever seen by far...maybe 200 people in the club
Not a bad cover attempt, but the original by the Kinks still one of the greatest rock & roll songs of all time by one of if not the greatest rock & roll band of all time. God Save the KinKs, - Frank Lima, The Montvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy aka Dan the Fan
this release was the first sign of the imminent demise of a once great band. the stranglers were effectively reduced to a karaoke act by the time hugh (rightly) jumped ship
I agree that with this cover the wind direction was changing and sh*t was about to hit the fan, but the boys had been doing this tune in clubs when they first started out, and this version is exceptional. Just too bad JJ and Hugh couldn't get along.
the stranglers fucken rock man, seen them live in inverness on the 19th of sept 2006, and i'll never forget that date till i die jj burnel is a fuckin god people. long may he live...

Prefer the Kinks version, but this one's still pretty damn good. Stranglers are my favourite band, easily.

actually I think that the version of Wavegroup is much better, that's the one included in Guitar Hero Aerosmith
musicmaniac389 3 years ago
ha thats what i thought...just a bit more punchy and defined ,crisper edges.??
davestany 3 years ago
Yeah. I'm not so keen on the sound of the snare drum in this song, though. Far too 80s.

Srranglers are dated , didnt stand the ,great ,test of time (timeless)INTERESTIng history lesson ,retrogaze.

この曲は、ボーカルのヒューコーンウェルが在籍していた時代では、終わり頃の曲です。ストラングラーズのオリジナルでは無くて
原曲はキンクスの曲だったと思います。
