you're full of shit--J.D. has won all the awards--you're just used to that stinking scotch crap, which has that disguting moss taste to hide all the head-pounding congeners...
I just had this yesterday. I don't really see what the hype is. It's very disappointing for the price I paid. I'm not much of a spirit drinker, so I may not know the difference between a good and bad whiskey, but I'd rather have Jameson or Jim Beam
he's got a point when he says that is not something you try first of all whiskeys, cause it burns very very good in the throut so it's definitly a zipper. the guys you see on tv that turn this bottled fire upside down they must lose their breath pretty good, i did the mistake one time to do a double shot at once and i lost my breath immidietly, never shotting this again even though i still drink it.
i like jack alot. i like american whiskey because of the gasoline type quality that many of them have. dont get me wrong i like scotch but im not a huge fan of peat bog taste. and i dont like drinking syrup either so no canadian.
I've drank JD7 for almost 20 years. I never bought into any of the hype. For me, it just fit better to my palate vs price point.
When Jeff Arnett took over the title of Master Distiller from Jimmy Bedford, the difference I noticed is that JD7 has become sweeter and more syrupy than it used to be. With the lowering of it's proof, it's like Arnett is aiming JD7 for the younger audience.
I believe it's JD's strategy to get JD7 drinkers who are now mature to buy their pricier GJ and SB.
@CynicalGenius Well, I haven't been drinking whiskey as long as that so I can't comment. But I would not be surprised in the quality has gone down. Bringing your alcohol down to a standard 40% can be a sign one is looking to dumb down the product for commercial reasons. Tacking on the sexy ads and other attempts to make the brand hip, and you may have a point there.
@CynicalGenius i think it may have changed a little in taste from being very oak tasty and smoky to being more sweeter i guess but still a good friday moonshine .. xD
I tried this a while ago and was actually not impressed. It is a harsh whiskey and I can't quite get past that varnishy smell, which is pretty weird. I agree with those who say Elijah Craig is much better.
Whenever I walk in a BevMo store, I see people grabbing JD No 7 left and right. What does that mean? people like it ad buy it. Jack Daniels is good, widely available, and decently priced. So cut the crap out and enjoy it like everybody else.
@ZedXIV Yes Sir, I have seen them many times in New Jersey. You can get a 1/2 pint or pint in a flat bottle. The size in the video is 1 pint. I drink it al the time. LOL
JD7 has rough edges but yeah love the charcol maple. Dickel is the best although i think poorly of the 2003-2006 bottles (same awesome smell in glass though). I also think Gentalman in the original bottle tasted better then that new gay one. maybe i just a batch but i somewhat vitiam corn taste. yuk.
The old movies like animal house and shit I believe JD has at a higher proof them.
it does not have "quite a bite" if you know how to man up and not be a pussy...if you think it is "harsh" then u are not a whiskey drinker....nuff said
This is why Jack Daniel's should be put in a glass with either water, ice, or coke. SImply put, this whiskey is just not that great especially considering it's price point.
I like Jack Daniels. I love the history behind the brand. And it goes down smooth for me, just drinking it straight or on the rocks. Warms the belly too ;)
like beer..you dont know whiskey either...this is not strong whiskey.its one of the most watered down there..is..its the bud light of whiskey...it has itsplace....but its not strong
I forgot to mention that Crown Royal is good, and so is Crown Black. But Black will kick your ass, it think it has a more peppery, or spicy taste to it. But to for a cheap whiskey, try rich and rare.
I myself do like Jack Daniels, need to get the single barrel. I've never had the single barrel. But even though I have a soft spot for JD, I prefer Jameson. I love Jameson. But I do have a tendency to go with bourbon. With bourbon, Wild Turkey 101 is good, but I love Maker's Mark and the new Jim Beam Devil's Cut. Also Jim Beam Black is good.
i m only 15 years old.. and i love your reviews, they have taught me alot. i know this is the wrong video to ask this question, but i found a 750ml bottle of the grand marnier orange cognac in my parents hiding place.. i just poured 6oz of it in a glass with ice cubes in it. i am 6'3'' tall and weigh 185pounds.. if you could leave a comment responding to this with your opinion on what you think is gonna happen, and any other advise on it, besides that im too young to drink.. haha thanks.
Are you kidding? This stuff is basically glorified corn syrup and rubbing alcohol. This is a high-production, moderately cheaply made, highly immature whiskey, and not for any refined palate. This is what you drink with Coke to get drunk on, not for drinking slowly in a glencairn glass by itself.
For a grown up whiskey, try some respectable bourbons like Vintage 17 or for quality that's more affordable go with Buffalo Trace.
I don't like JD, but you sound like a moron who doesn't know shit about drinking any type of bourbon, whisky, or probably any other alcoholic beverage.
@millerhighlife2112 CR is much more easy-drinking than JD, for sure. That's typical of most blended Canadian whiskey: lighter in flavour, smooth, better for mixing.
You should try buffalo trace. Its a VERY good bourbon at a really good price. About the same price as jack. Jack is way to young and not good at all. Its ok for mixing but straight up its horrible.
@100percentNatural100 I'll keep my eye out, thanks. I'm probably going to try a few more bourbons soon anyway, both because I haven't really had many, and because the prices are a bit more easy on the entertainment fund than Scotch.:)
@100percentNatural100 Yeah, Buffalo Trace is outstandingly good whiskey. One of the best bourbon whiskeys I've ever drunk. I used to love JD, but now I can't drink the stuff, it's so harsh.
Maker's Mark is superior but i guess you get what you pay for, Jack is okay has a syrup flavour and i mean like Tate and Lyle golden syrup flavour but has that burnt charcoal at the back, definite flavour from the barrel.
There is zero malt flavour here no peat bog or oaky flavours. Rot gut is just a whisky that has an almost petroleum like quality to the alcohol lol, Whyte and Mackay comes to mind where as Grouse is a better blend of malts. A single Malt has more character like Isle of Jura.
@footballelmaestro123 YES, i'm from the heartland of the USA and out of all the guys i've talked to, Jack Daniels is most always on the very top of the list
I always find JD has an almost banana-like taste, dunno if anyone else gets this. The sweetness is a definite turn off, if the after effects aren't enough! I prefer a single malt scotch, but I'm a hard up student, so I guess I have to make do haha!
@footballelmaestro123 Uh well from an american its basiclly one of the most popular drinks, kids think its cool, etc but many adults who drink drinks for the taste hate the jack because it is so strong
If you keep it in your mouth for a while (20 to 40 secs) and then swallow it you'll be able to taste the flavors better. The alcohol won't hit you so much.
I get the impression that JD sells so well because a) it's cheap by comparison and, b) all the bikers, red-necks, and biker/red-neck wannabe's feel they have to drink it.
Jack Daniel's is good for 2 things in my experience... a sore throat and a night you don't want to remember...
I have to disagree on it being close to rotgut though. It is harsh as hell but I have never had that bad of a morning after it. Barton's on the other hand... I wanted to die after I tried that.
@HippieMagic : It seems you have a broad definition of the word 'try'. Did it take you the entire bottle to come to your conclusion about Bartons..LOL...
Jack Daniels Whiskey is not for the faint of heart. It's a quality American Made whiskey. Used to be 90 proof, but they lowered it. The taste has remained consistant over the years though. This is still a real man's drinking whiskey. I love the flavor and aroma profile of this whiskey. I like it neat, no ice, and not mixed. Unlike scotch, Jack just doesn't go well with ice or water IMO. Used to love Wild Turkey 101, but found the high proof really detracts from an otherwise good flavor profile.
jack is definitely not for weaklings. the first time i tried it i drank a 16oz glass neat and it was a terrible experiance. i love the menthol effect, but its killer

untouched. I suppose being young I was unbreakable so I thought, just wondering if you or your friends have chewed the thought or has it entered your mind as time goes on.
@Wallabytrack It doesn't really hold court in my mind because I drink in moderation, try to eat right, exercise, and only have a cigar or two maybe once every year, if that. In my late teens and early twenties I could get pretty wild, but even then is was nothing approaching alcoholism. That was ten years ago. Now I very rarely drink "too much". I'm not worried about something that's not worth worrying about. Cheers.
@elharlock Goodonya! sensible approach, I tend to think know that a good intake of water during the course of tasting and after helps the process and of course food,I could never eat a meal and drink beer at the same time, that I think was my problem. Good Luck and enjoy.
I remember my old dad would order his spirit, and another glass same size of water,he would sip and then drink the spirit, followed by the water.
That stuff is absolutly repulsive and unfortunatly i fell for it's so called quality back when i was 16 all that stuff is good for is getting you fucked up. I had to run from cops when i was drunk off that shit cuttting the story short i got away but that didn't stop me blowing chunks all over my ex girlfriends bathroom
@CSLAYER10000 just because you're a delicate little queen who got his clit hair singed by a mans drink doesn't make it repulsive you like everyone one else are entitled to be wrong and most likely exercise this priveledge with persistant and audatious lack of caution or knowledge but refrain from dragging down somebodys hard work and heritage with your undicerning schnapps swilling taste buds kindly go skip through fields of flowers if you can't take the heat
In my opinion if your going to drink American Whiskey, Drink Old Heaven Hill 8, 10, or 12 year. But never the 4yr!!! The older it gets the smoother it gets.
Nice review. I haven't had Jack in a while but I remember it as a little harsh. My room mate and I used to drink boilermakers in college except we used Wild Turkey and Coors. Talk about a nasty drink!
@beernoob Thanks. Heh, no kidding on the expense. I'm going to have to start using my beer budget for whiskey/booze every other week in order to keep the reviews coming.
The distillery tour is awesome if you're in the state of TN. Its funny -- its a dry county....but you can purchase AND drink it while in the 'gift shop' LOL. Classic
I love Jack Daniels, but I agree that the aroma is really one of the key selling points. I can take whiffs of a small glass of JD with occasional sips and be a happy man. I personally drink it straight most of the time, but I'll often mix it with coke.
If you ever make it down to Lynchburg, go for the tour of the distillery. Definitely worth your time if you're in the area. They even tell you the closest location to the distillery to find Jack Daniels, and can sell "commemorative bottles."
I love JD but I think it's too expensive, where I live you can get 35cl of Jack for £11, or for the same price you could get 70cl of Sainsbury's bourbon and because I have it with coke it tastes pretty much the same.
Glad to see you reviewed jd! first whisky I ever had and one my favourites, I don't really like it mixed, but its definately a whisky that grows on you. As usual good vid! x
@evilbadger714 Thanks. Yeah, I'm actually not a big fan of mixing it unless I want a whiskey sour (which is even more dangerous than boiler makers), but I thought I'd mention that people may want to try mixing this if it's their first time.
@Rabadamtimtimti I generally read less than stellar review for this and people I know who know about whisky generally look down on it. I'd say maybe Coors Light instead of Corona. I'm sure Millie will be back soon.
@elharlock it is an american whiskey and it is made as such it is bare bones and balls out its art is in simplicity and for an american whiskey it is of very high quality you would probably prefer gentleman jack or the single barrel jack daniels they have much more body and character than the standard no.7 it trumps j.beam or dickel by miles avoid the green label jack i have watched several of your reviews and i admire your honesty a bit harsh at times but you don't sugar coat and bullshit
doesn't sound that you like it when you drink it. Captain Morgan has more caramel-taste.

A lot of people don't know this, but his name was Jack Daniel and not Daniels.
unrealeck 1 year ago
@unrealeck Well that's obvious as it is spelled: Daniel's ,with an apostrophe, on the label...
Alchodog 1 year ago
@Alchodog That's pretty much my point. People think his name is Jack Daniels because they don't seem to know what an apostrophe is.

CSLAYER10000 1 year ago

Old 7 is Rot Gut at its worst.

Nice review. I haven't had Jack in a while but I remember it as a little harsh. My room mate and I used to drink boilermakers in college except we used Wild Turkey and Coors. Talk about a nasty drink!

really into craft beer and not really hard liquor or mixed drinks.. but i do have a thing for whiskey sours ;) haha especially with JD
ilovefastcars89 1 year ago
I love whisky and scotch and was going to do a channel based on that...but it would get WAY too expensive! Nice video..and I like your style.
beernoob 1 year ago
@beernoob Thanks. Heh, no kidding on the expense. I'm going to have to start using my beer budget for whiskey/booze every other week in order to keep the reviews coming.

jack and coke is good

The distillery tour is awesome if you're in the state of TN. Its funny -- its a dry county....but you can purchase AND drink it while in the 'gift shop' LOL. Classic
Humpzilla21 1 year ago
Havent you heard beer before liquor makes you sicker? Well if you mix the two what do you think you got? I'd figure that'd be common sense.
mrhenderson 1 year ago
@mrhenderson I was dumb, not paying attention to how much I was drinking. Shit happens.
elharlock 1 year ago
I love Jack Daniels, but I agree that the aroma is really one of the key selling points. I can take whiffs of a small glass of JD with occasional sips and be a happy man. I personally drink it straight most of the time, but I'll often mix it with coke.
If you ever make it down to Lynchburg, go for the tour of the distillery. Definitely worth your time if you're in the area. They even tell you the closest location to the distillery to find Jack Daniels, and can sell "commemorative bottles."
TheEndosymbiosis 1 year ago
I love JD but I think it's too expensive, where I live you can get 35cl of Jack for £11, or for the same price you could get 70cl of Sainsbury's bourbon and because I have it with coke it tastes pretty much the same.
hardrockerdave94 1 year ago
Glad to see you reviewed jd! first whisky I ever had and one my favourites, I don't really like it mixed, but its definately a whisky that grows on you. As usual good vid! x
evilbadger714 1 year ago
@evilbadger714 Thanks. Yeah, I'm actually not a big fan of mixing it unless I want a whiskey sour (which is even more dangerous than boiler makers), but I thought I'd mention that people may want to try mixing this if it's their first time.
elharlock 1 year ago
haha! I LOVE your reaction to this, and some of the beer reviews where the beer was really shitty...the Wildcat review comes to mind.
maxbench25 1 year ago
In my opinion, JD is similar to Corona in that it's more of a marketing triumph than a triumph of quality.
Oh, and when is Millie gonna co-host again? :)
Rabadamtimtimti 1 year ago
@Rabadamtimtimti I generally read less than stellar review for this and people I know who know about whisky generally look down on it. I'd say maybe Coors Light instead of Corona. I'm sure Millie will be back soon.
elharlock 1 year ago
@elharlock it is an american whiskey and it is made as such it is bare bones and balls out its art is in simplicity and for an american whiskey it is of very high quality you would probably prefer gentleman jack or the single barrel jack daniels they have much more body and character than the standard no.7 it trumps j.beam or dickel by miles avoid the green label jack i have watched several of your reviews and i admire your honesty a bit harsh at times but you don't sugar coat and bullshit
realitysimulator 1 year ago
I think its a very fair and true review you did. good job.
