Hey Tara, great video!!! Your video has got me interested in trying an Insulin pump. I just got diagnosed about a month ago with type 1 and I'm 43. Guess it took a while to catch up with me. I bet your parents are so proud of you. Your video is quite inspiring!
Thanks for posting this video. It answered many questions I have had about alternatives to giving myself shots 4 times a day.
It my be better for you because your a girl but i think u would like a insulin pump better because Its a lot littler but I'm just saying and when you move the pod you should put more spots because it can start damaging your mussels I tried the omen pod I thought this is to big so tried the pump it was alot easier
Hey it's Shane. Been praying 4 u. Remember ur walk 4 diabetes last year? Seems like u get great comments. Awesome video. Glad I took time to check it out.
I just ordered a free trial of the OmniPod today & cant wait to try it! I am 19 and hav been a diabetic since i was 10. I can COMPLETELY RELATE TO TARA! =) From the complete shock of diagnosis to being odd one out at school with having diabetes to living an active lifestyle.
i've been using the Insulin pens and my A1c is still too high. Im hoping the OmniPod will help me lower it and hopefully i will be able to finally get my drivers license! =D
OmniPods are not $50 a piece. The contracted rate with your insurance plan would be much less than that. If you were paying cash it would be much less as well.
good for you kiddo. I'm a dad of a 2 1/2 year old type 1 diabetic. We hope to get him on a pump in the next couple of years. Great video, you did a good job.
Idk why you would have to give up any sports before you had the pod, ive been with type 1 for a little over a year now and hasn't stoped me. Anyway, im getting a pump soon but im extremely disappointed because the Omnipod isn't sold in Canada, which is a huge piss off
Im 13 years old diabetip type 1 for 2 years do you really think I should get the omnipod?I cant take injecctions anymore its paithful and i do not want a pump with tubign
@cvaneyck - I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I can tell you this, speaking from a parents perspective, it does become a normal part of life. I am truly amazed at how Tara has not let this thing slow her down or get her down. There's a lot of support out there, alot of Type 1's, and a cure seems to be closer than ever.
We hope and pray you don't let it get you down. You can do it!!
I'm going to cry, that is just so awesome! I know how difficult things were. I'm a friend of your parents, and this is just so cool to see you so much happier and independent, and safer!
tara, it made me really sad cause i didn't know you had diabetes until you sent me an email. i wish i knew how it feels like to go through all that and living with diabetes. i really hope you get a lot of views. =) - kevin
I came here from a link that her father posted from his Flickr account. What a wonderful and very poised little lady and how great it is that this bit of technology has made her life that much more enjoyable. Thank an engineer.
Thanks for making this video, I have family who have diabetes and think this would be a great device for them also and way easier then the old way. Thanks again!
GREAT job Tara...and T & S! We are so PROUD of you! God is using you and the diabetes to help and spread knowledge to more people in your situation. You are TRUE inspiration!

@mason1189 That's you're opinion and sorry it didn't work for you. But you don't have to say "it sucks".
It has changed Tara's life for the better (I'm saying this 3 years after this video was made).

Cool :) I'm thinking about getting the OmniPod, Solo Micro Pump, or JewelPump.
The Jewel still needs FDA approval but it's tiny and holds 450 units of insulin. But it's really really small and flat.
The solo has bolus buttons on it so if you don't have your remote you just squeeze the pod :)
The remote doesn't have a built in glucose monitor but they're working on it.
CGMs also look good. They're a little patch on your body and they check your glucose every 1 to 5 minutes!
Nice video, good luc

Thanks so much! I actually got my pump set up today, so I am finally starting pump therapy.
I am happy to hear that Tara isn't affected any more than she has to be with this disease-I am sure the pump makes it easier.
Thanks for the kind words-I am hoping this makes it easier and easier for me, too

carnold96 2 years ago
Like I mentioned before, they are about $50 each...but you need to check with your insurance to see if they will pay.
elrodracing 2 years ago
how many days do u wait to change the pod. I really want the omnipod it looks so much better and easy then the pump i got right know
carnold96 2 years ago
Hi-
Each Pod lasts about 3 days. A Pod holds 200mg of insulin.
elrodracing 2 years ago
@elrodracing Mine only lasts 2 days :/
YourLittleArtist 1 year ago
does anyone know how mcuh it aproxmently cost
carnold96 2 years ago
Hey there....The Pump is about $800 (compared to $3000 for regular pumps). Then the Pods are about $50 each, and we use about 10 month.
That's if you did not have insurance. Hopefully you do.
