  • kto od shoguna1987?

  • Thanks for playing the best music! :D

Also, on the Ferrari badge flip comment...damn, I've played this game 8 ways to Sunday and never noticed that!!

  • I kind of like cruisn USA better. It has 4 cars, lets you select any track you want so you don't have to do the whole run to get to one stage every time, lets you switch music, and it has more than 3 music tracks, all in different genres, while I think outrun only has one.

  • Middle Ending!!

  • How did you drive and accellerate this on mame?

  • What did you use to record this? Also, what were the dip switch settings? Nice run!

  • The father of today's driving games.

  • I take it that on the "Best Outrunners" Yu. Is Yu Suzuki?

  • Love out run am thinking of getting a master system so i can play out run again

  • Help me !!! Somebody know how I can get this game ???

  • @CHICOPILAS You can get it on Sega Master System, Game Gear or Saturn if you mean as a console game.

  • @CHICOPILAS I have this original game in an old old old backup CD underneath piles of trash! But I do have it! AMAZING!

  • @CHICOPILAS You can look for MAME on Google. Look for "Out Run (sitdown/upright, Rev B)". You download the emulator and then, the Out Run ROM. Put the game in the ROMs directory and have fun! Works in Windows and Mac OSX.

  • WOW!!! Some top driving their

  • This game so influenced my driving habits.

  • @jovi105 TOTALLY!!! Same here!! I only drive with my left arm although I'm right.

  • I wish I had a boyfriend to play this with...

  • OMFG you got some skill my best time is with 15secs to spare. I dont overtake on corners cos I always crash :)

  • que tiempos aquellos por cierto que tipo de auto es??? parece un ferrari o un jaguar de los modelos antiguos

  • @trate007 es un ferrari.

  • GOOD GRRRRREAT!!!

  • There are BMW E30 cabrio's in there! Awesome!

  • STG=> STIG

  • Greatest driving game OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!

This arcade game took more of my student grant than 4 years of alcohol abuse ...

How many of you broke the magical 5 minute barrier?

My best time 4.58.4 ..... Still one of my greatest achievement ever...... and i'm 42.

  • heh, kool

  • Gutted to see "Chequered Flag" for the ZX Spectrum wasn't featured. Or "Deathchase" come to mention it.

  • Memories, I remember playing this in the arcade. Loved the music and scenery of this game, great stuff!

  • for sure that is not james may driving it, lol

  • a real porsche killer :D

  • @Krakadilgena84 Apparently, he passed about a million of 'em.

  • Whoever drove in this game during the video grabbing is ONE HECK OF A DRIVER! For much of the game, the driver managed to SUSTAIN a whopping 293 MPH! I used to play this game on the Commodore 64, and then later on the Amiga.

  • @JNozum KM/H not MPH. but still the driver is pretty good

  • This game was awesome I remember when it first came out I would go to the arcade and spend all my money on it and the grapics for the time was unreal THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!

  • EPIC RACE! only one collision, nice.

Brought back many MANY memories, thanks.

    Love that toooooone.

  • THE STIG, of course!!

Was this done on a proper sit down cabinet?

  • 「ギアガチャ」無しのクリアー

    お見事でした。

  • This music reminds me of Mario Kart on Snes.

  • @FourStringL0B0

absolute rubbish! get yourself in the arcades! they probably still got an outrun lying about somewhere, sit down cabinet ftw, full blast music ftw x2.

  • great game,i just got the 20th anniversary soundtrack boxset.

  • used to have this on my 486

    ahh good times...

  • a road from miami to saudi arabia

    nice

  • sprite scaling for great justice!!!!

  • Anyone ever noticed that the Ferrari badge flips horizontally?

  • @CorrosionMedia

    lol right, i never noticed

  • Graphics has changed dramatically over the years, hasn't it?

  • @Theninja347

But the Music of this game is still class, stood the test of time, playability wise Out Run is as much fun as a lot of the newer racers out there today

  • wow after all that, you would think the blonde would give you some head

  • had this on my portable Sega, only remember the music :o

  • Actually have this game on my Atari ST 1040. Could always get up to the last stage but never clock it. This version is a lot smoother and perhaps easier to control. Nice driving though. You make it look super easy. Speaking of retro, lets not forget Double Dragon, R-Type and Galaga :D

  • @deefmar

The PC-Engine version was great, as close as you could come at the time, better than the more powerfull SMD version which was ok but sound sucked on that system.

  • @plamen9612 yes, I've just come here from TopGear and then read your comment

  • Arghhhhh my eyes.

  • Haha! I love that he drove over 5 continents and a gazillion miles just to dump the blonde and get it on with the two brunettes... Too bad one of them has to ride in the trunk because that's a 2-seater...

  • I could almost buy a house with all the coins I ever spent on this game!!

  • top gear

  • thumbs up if top gear sent you here

  • @Plamen9612 you would think that Top Gear's #1 would be "Top Gear" for the SNES

  • Out Run, Space Harrier, and (to a lesser extent) After Burner, were the undisputed kings of the 1980s arcade scene. All 3 from Sega, all 3 with hydraulic versions, all 3 with awesome pumping sound and killer smooth graphics. At a time when home computers were still very basic affairs, Sega owned the gaming world.

  • Good choice of Music at the beginning(Magical Sound Shower) was one of my favorite themes from any game.

  • this was the first racing game I've ever played, it blew my mind!

  • they had this up my local park arcade back in 1986/87, the big arsed hydraulic one. it cost 50p per go or £1.00 for three. 50p is like £2/£3 in todays money. what a rip. still some losers today complain about spending £8.00 on maps for COD which then gives you infinite games for free with people from all around the world when then a one minute call to the usa was like a quid

  • @DumbfoundAdog tbh, i can't see ANY reason to pay again for a game i just bought. if i bought it, and paid the full price, i expect in return to get 100% the game, with all of its features.

  • @DumbfoundAdog £8.00 can buy you a whole game that's a few years old, why buy 3 CoD maps for that money?

  • @WolfosDotOrg yes, but the map packs are pretty much whole games. people play them for hours for free. take a look at this game called MONTY ON THE RUN, this cost about £30 in todays money for the C64. no online here + it took only 20mins to finish, crap graphics pennies to make, thats it. people today need to appreciate money more coz stuff today is really cheap compared to the past

  • @DumbfoundAdog You simply shouldn't compare things these days with things back in the day. You can pay €30 for a game with a shitload of quality content right now and you can spend the same on 2 CoD map packs that took only a month to make. THAT is what I'm comparing it to.

  • I'm playing Out Run on my PC now on the mame32 emulator but mine starts with 75 seconds start time...

  • Man, those were the days when arcade coin-ops were king. The home versions of these games just couldn't match them. Its amazing how home games have advanced since then. They have practically eliminated the arcade coin-op culture. Though, the term "Arcade" still survives.

  • NOW THAT'S HOW YOU DRIVE!! FROM NOW ONE, THAT'S HOW YOU DRIVE!!

  • Awesome! thanks, great driving :) !!!

  • I always couldn't ignore the horse on the pack of the car faces the wrong way if you turn right.

  • dude these sounds take me back. ive been tryin to find a video of a sega game from the mid 90s. i remember it being a fighting game with a thor like character. i kno thats not much info but if anyone has any idea please let me kno. it was from around the same time as this game

  • @jamnin94 could that be 'Altered Beast'?

  • @jamnin94 or Golden Axe

  • @Ness0007 dude that was it! thanx very much. its so cool to see that again

  • haha he wishes for two more chicks.

  • Comment removed

  • What I love with that game is that 50% of the screen is useless

  • On the street - You DON'T GET another quarter!

God Bless early 90's drinkk-driving awareness ad's on MTV...

  • I wish Sega would ressurect the Super Scaler game in HD. Make it for download and offer it cheap if they don't want to "waste" a disk and packaging. I still think Outrunners needs a proper home port, too.

  • They should open a theme park that has stuff from each period... like 90s land and 80s land etc...it would be cool....until the 12 year old kids ruin it :/

  • its to easy i can do the same, with $100 worth on credits that is :P

  • OMG ! the 'Ferrari' horse logo is alive. its face to the right and left >.<

  • Great! Remember I went on a trip to the States, and on a certain night everyone had left to go Planet Hollywood in Orlando, except me. I stayed in the Hotel playing OutRun!!!! Lol!! Got a lot of hate for that! Later on the same trip I did the same on a Daytona Usa machine that needed 4 quarters for a play. What agreat trip! I bought so many cartridges, a 'Genesis' (which was Mega Drive II to me previously) a Game Boy bundled with Tetris, and flirted a lot with a 3DO. Thanks for the memories!

  • Great! Remember I went on a trip to the States, and on a certain night, everyone had left to go Planet Hollywood in Orland, except me, i stayed in the Hotel playing OutRun!!!! Lol!! Later on the same trip I did the same on a Daytona Usa machine that nedded 4 quarters for a play. What a good way to spent my dollars!! SEGA!

  • This was my favourite game when I was a kid. Brings back all the memories... *sigh*

  • Nostalgie....you master.

  • I remember the first time I saw an Outrun machin in an arcade. Me and me brother were awestruck with the graphics, music and the sheer presence of it. Looking back at it now, it still holds its weight. Cutting edge game and tue nostalgia. Nice video :o)

  • Wow, these graphics are superb for a '3D' game, but I doubt this would work on a genisis as well, was it on the genisis too?

  • Want to see the real deal...go check out my video on "urgetodrive" YT channel. I'm driving a red Testarossa along the beach. 1980s...where are you? I miss you!!

  • Just for a moment I thought I was a kid again.

  • Good work, you played this exactly how I used to play it =) It would be great if they did a re-make of this classic. But of course, they'd have to include some chemtrails in the sky to keep it realistic, lol.

  • @NufffRespect : Under wich rock have you been living? This game has been remade twice allready. Outrun 2, and Outrun Coast to Coast!

  • @Villagenutt, oops, my bad =/ I'll have to check out those newer versions. I used to play the original Outrun in the arcades and was addicted to it.

  • This along with Paperboy might be the greatest arcade games of all time, and maybe Hang-On.

  • @Ahoz69 GT5 is more of a basement dweller type of game..

  • @Ahoz69 Wtf...

  • What an awesome game - took heaps of my money at the arcades this one!

  • @Ahoz69 GT5 is shit tho. . . .lower score on Gamerankings and Meta than Forza 3 and now Forza 4 is gonna be better than both/ GT5 ain't saying shiieeett.

  • I always go to San Francisco <3

  • I haven't seen this game in over 20 years.

  • Mother of all games

  • the colors look washed out

  • This game has a good soundtrack.

  • one of the best 80's games!! i've spent hours on videogames, playing it!

  • the wheels are not spinning :p

  • Oh God, the memories.

  • The first real impressive arcade racing game from 1986 by SEGA: the racing game experts!

  • WOW, this takes me back, could never clock it but still Great Game, wish i was back in the eightes, might go out and buy a tesstorossa now ive seen this.

  • I remember playing this on my old Atari ST in the 90's. So awesome :)

  • i used and still love this game brings bk memories

  • hahaha...I remember doing that left, right , left (or whatever) thing with the steering wheel and would watch other people drive their cars into the ocean.

  • nah forget NFS!! this is cool!! xD xD

  • This game is as iconic as the car. The game came out in 1986, the year I was born. Every arcade you visited had this game, and for me it was often the first machine I climbed in to start with.

  • @Ashikun well said mate i played this alot 2 whenever they opened the rollercoater rides and stuff you would always find me in outrun arcade ,later that became tekken2

  • congratulations!

  • This game was and still is my shit. Outrunners is the only other one thats right up there with it.

  • Wait a second, you used the breaks! I didn't even realise out-run HAD breaks.... maybe that's why I had trouble with it.... :) nice vid.

  • Splash Wave is the best music!

  • So those of you who remember playing this back in the day will laugh at this. I literally just loaded it up in MAME and played it for the first time in at least 25 years or so. I kept popping out into MAME and trying to adjust the graphics settings, as I just KNEW this game had better graphics back in the day! It ROCKED back then, but wow, it is just so pixelated and unrealistic now in comparison to Need For Speed, Hot Pursuit for my PS3. How far we have come.

  • Good run, Mr.Stig

  • You finished at Desolation Hill too? MY MAN!

Yeah, a gold cup's just a gold cup, but a magical genie lamp can get you ANYTHING. Including a harem with lots of sexy babes. You have chosen wisely. :)

  • There is a cheat for this game that lets you fly a helicopter......in my mind.

  • that was kool!!!

  • Lol, In the end the girl is like WTF??

  • I bought the remake just to get this music : )

  • Why Ferrari logo on the back of the car flips when you turn left or right?

  • @ZXRulezzz, loool

  • THOSE are 1986 graphics? DAMMNNNN! That is epic!

  • My car needs gas mileage like that :)

  • Where id they end up? Saudi Arabia?

  • This game has the best soundtrack out of any game I have played

  • Good old times at the beach ... everybody knew I was the king of that game in the area and soon gathered around me to see new record beated whenever I started playing .

    My best was 39.608.670 with a time of 4:55.71 ( starting time 75 seconds ) .

  • XBLA please...

  • @digoroth82 indeed, and while they are at it, let them continue by giving us the arcade versions of Turbo Out Run, OutRunners, and for instance Power Drift :-D

  • The real Stig would never have hit that truck on stage 3 ;-)

  • 1:17-2:04 only outrun lets you pass gazillion identical stones at that speed

  • Man! THis takes me ALL THE WAY back to Putt Putt Golf n Games days!! Anyone got a spare flux capacitor I can borrow?

  • This game always made me think of Jem. Because the couple in that convertible made me think they were Rio Pacheco, and Jerrica Benton.

  • Is it possible to download it to played under Mac ?

  • I remember doing this on a school holiday to Austria. Someone who knew I liked driving games (Daniel bloody Farrow) announced that I was awesome at Outrun and so the gauntlet was laid down. Someone gave me the money and bugger me if I didn't finish it without hitting a thing. Only ever got about halfway before. Never touched it again - I know I'm not that good.

  • Nice driving i see there...

  • I loved this game so friggin much, and still do. Best music ever for a game, VirtuaStig, love it! XD

  • Why "best ending"? All endings are good and there's not an easy or hard track to select.

By the way, this game, 24 years later, still is brillant and funny.

  • Even my sister loved this game and she hated driving games HATED them, but this one was something else. This game must have been the one and only insperation for Playstations RageRacer.

  • kool video i still think after all this time it is still the best

  • Even if it was produced in 1986 it's still very fun to play this Classic racer in 2010 and forever maybe. SEGA's golden Arcade era.

  • This game should be released on The Play Station Network.

  • why aren't video games these days as fast as outrun?

  • I remembered being deeply impressed by this as a kid. The thing which stood out the most was the then lightning fast graphics. Nothing similar had been seen before back in 1986.

The music still sounds as good today as it did back then.

  • lol, the arcade had a steering wheel and pedal - that was as realistic as the graphics, not bad for 20p a go tho :)

  • in outrun ferrari runs 293 km/h

  • @scmhwo And in real life Testarossa does it too...

  • Wow!!! Takes me back to my youth!! One of the first arcade games I learned to finish completely! When I was down to my last quarter in the local arcade game room I knew I could play OutRun and go home a winner! LOL!!

  • This was my favorite game! I was also able to beat it in the arcade.

  • seriously, how old are you??!!!!

ok yes ive been playing this too, its the absolute dogs bol-x i love it!

  • The Stig!!!

  • I was on a Honda Superhawk 996 yesterday going like 80 mph through sweepers, and the tune in my head was "Magical Sound Shower." :)

  • Seeing this takes me back to my youth in the 80's...awesome time to be alive and in America.

  • I can't be the only one who thinks 2:15 sounds like "Never Gonna Give You Up".

  • @Seantendo

    I'm with you on that.

  • @Seantendo i dont hear it =/

  • Lotus? What a fuckin douche that's a Ferrari you fool

  • everyone knows this racing game

  • I always wanted a Lotus like that when I played this game :)

  • Straight whippage @ 1:52 lol

  • Comment removed

  • best racing game ever

  • You cannot call yourself a gamer until you have played Outrun.

  • Wonderful!

  • The scenery flying by was almost seizure inducing! Good memories :)

  • He should kick that bitch out of the car, then he'd get more speed...

  • @franka64 But if he kicked her out of the car, he wouldn't have a cute blonde to add to his harem at the end. :-(

  • a convertible testarossa!!

  • i always ran out of time b4 i came close 2 the 2nd check point thanks 4 demo
