I kind of like cruisn USA better. It has 4 cars, lets you select any track you want so you don't have to do the whole run to get to one stage every time, lets you switch music, and it has more than 3 music tracks, all in different genres, while I think outrun only has one.
@CHICOPILAS You can look for MAME on Google. Look for "Out Run (sitdown/upright, Rev B)". You download the emulator and then, the Out Run ROM. Put the game in the ROMs directory and have fun! Works in Windows and Mac OSX.
Whoever drove in this game during the video grabbing is ONE HECK OF A DRIVER! For much of the game, the driver managed to SUSTAIN a whopping 293 MPH! I used to play this game on the Commodore 64, and then later on the Amiga.
This game was awesome I remember when it first came out I would go to the arcade and spend all my money on it and the grapics for the time was unreal THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!
absolute rubbish! get yourself in the arcades! they probably still got an outrun lying about somewhere, sit down cabinet ftw, full blast music ftw x2.
But the Music of this game is still class, stood the test of time, playability wise Out Run is as much fun as a lot of the newer racers out there today
Actually have this game on my Atari ST 1040. Could always get up to the last stage but never clock it. This version is a lot smoother and perhaps easier to control. Nice driving though. You make it look super easy. Speaking of retro, lets not forget Double Dragon, R-Type and Galaga :D
The PC-Engine version was great, as close as you could come at the time, better than the more powerfull SMD version which was ok but sound sucked on that system.
Haha! I love that he drove over 5 continents and a gazillion miles just to dump the blonde and get it on with the two brunettes... Too bad one of them has to ride in the trunk because that's a 2-seater...
Out Run, Space Harrier, and (to a lesser extent) After Burner, were the undisputed kings of the 1980s arcade scene. All 3 from Sega, all 3 with hydraulic versions, all 3 with awesome pumping sound and killer smooth graphics. At a time when home computers were still very basic affairs, Sega owned the gaming world.
they had this up my local park arcade back in 1986/87, the big arsed hydraulic one. it cost 50p per go or £1.00 for three. 50p is like £2/£3 in todays money. what a rip. still some losers today complain about spending £8.00 on maps for COD which then gives you infinite games for free with people from all around the world when then a one minute call to the usa was like a quid
@DumbfoundAdog tbh, i can't see ANY reason to pay again for a game i just bought. if i bought it, and paid the full price, i expect in return to get 100% the game, with all of its features.
@WolfosDotOrg yes, but the map packs are pretty much whole games. people play them for hours for free. take a look at this game called MONTY ON THE RUN, this cost about £30 in todays money for the C64. no online here + it took only 20mins to finish, crap graphics pennies to make, thats it. people today need to appreciate money more coz stuff today is really cheap compared to the past
@DumbfoundAdog You simply shouldn't compare things these days with things back in the day. You can pay €30 for a game with a shitload of quality content right now and you can spend the same on 2 CoD map packs that took only a month to make. THAT is what I'm comparing it to.
Man, those were the days when arcade coin-ops were king. The home versions of these games just couldn't match them. Its amazing how home games have advanced since then. They have practically eliminated the arcade coin-op culture. Though, the term "Arcade" still survives.

Got a lot of hate for that! Later on the same trip I did the same on a Daytona Usa machine that needed 4 quarters for a play. What agreat trip! I bought so many cartridges, a 'Genesis' (which was Mega Drive II to me previously) a Game Boy bundled with Tetris, and flirted a lot with a 3DO. Thanks for the memories!

Good old times at the beach ... everybody knew I was the king of that game in the area and soon gathered around me to see new record beated whenever I started playing .
My best was 39.608.670 with a time of 4:55.71 ( starting time 75 seconds ) .
@digoroth82 indeed, and while they are at it, let them continue by giving us the arcade versions of Turbo Out Run, OutRunners, and for instance Power Drift :-D
I remember doing this on a school holiday to Austria. Someone who knew I liked driving games (Daniel bloody Farrow) announced that I was awesome at Outrun and so the gauntlet was laid down. Someone gave me the money and bugger me if I didn't finish it without hitting a thing. Only ever got about halfway before. Never touched it again - I know I'm not that good.
Even my sister loved this game and she hated driving games HATED them, but this one was something else. This game must have been the one and only insperation for Playstations RageRacer.
I remembered being deeply impressed by this as a kid. The thing which stood out the most was the then lightning fast graphics. Nothing similar had been seen before back in 1986.
The music still sounds as good today as it did back then.
Wow!!! Takes me back to my youth!! One of the first arcade games I learned to finish completely! When I was down to my last quarter in the local arcade game room I knew I could play OutRun and go home a winner! LOL!!

This game always made me think of Jem. Because the couple in that convertible made me think they were Rio Pacheco, and Jerrica Benton.

I loved this game so friggin much, and still do. Best music ever for a game, VirtuaStig, love it! XD

Why "best ending"? All endings are good and there's not an easy or hard track to select.
By the way, this game, 24 years later, still is brillant and funny.

Even my sister loved this game and she hated driving games HATED them, but this one was something else. This game must have been the one and only insperation for Playstations RageRacer.

Even if it was produced in 1986 it's still very fun to play this Classic racer in 2010 and forever maybe. SEGA's golden Arcade era.

This game should be released on The Play Station Network.

why aren't video games these days as fast as outrun?
Alevamltd 1 year ago
I remembered being deeply impressed by this as a kid. The thing which stood out the most was the then lightning fast graphics. Nothing similar had been seen before back in 1986.
The music still sounds as good today as it did back then.

lol, the arcade had a steering wheel and pedal - that was as realistic as the graphics, not bad for 20p a go tho :)

Wow!!! Takes me back to my youth!! One of the first arcade games I learned to finish completely! When I was down to my last quarter in the local arcade game room I knew I could play OutRun and go home a winner! LOL!!

I was on a Honda Superhawk 996 yesterday going like 80 mph through sweepers, and the tune in my head was "Magical Sound Shower." :)

I can't be the only one who thinks 2:15 sounds like "Never Gonna Give You Up".

You cannot call yourself a gamer until you have played Outrun.

He should kick that bitch out of the car, then he'd get more speed...

@franka64 But if he kicked her out of the car, he wouldn't have a cute blonde to add to his harem at the end. :-(
