Thanks for posting this! When I worked on a farm in the early Sixties they still used a Cletrac DDH for pulling a mole drainer. Its the only one I have seen in the flesh and I dont know how it came to be here in the UK. Unfortunately it was scrapped soon after, as the engine block had bad water leaks and the tracks were totally shot. Even in that condition it would be well worth saving now!
@johnrobel i have worked on one of thease to so dont assume i dont know what i an on about, lastly it takes a shit load of eather to blow a head off to,
@catmaster81 You dont know your ass from a hole in the ground.I am a certified MASTER and know more about vintage engines than you will ever know. RFD tv had me on and I have an extensive antique tractor collection>
@johnrobel YOU MUST NOT KNOW MUTCH BOUT DIESEL ENGINES. thease machines did not have glow plugs you idoit thease are not a modern engine equiped whith glow plugs, go back in to your modern day cave and play whith your modern day shit, as i am a caterpiller machinac it was only few years ago we stoped carring aero start for older machines cos you dont hardley see them any more. eaven now i wish i had a tin every now and thean whith a modern engine now and thean.
@MrMarman6 Excuse me ma'am, but that is NOT true older machines like this may need some assistance, and this particular machine is start on gas run on diesel.
@whittbob13 That is a Cletrac (clevland tractor company) Cletracs used either Buda, Hercules or Continental engines. (some early used Weidley) Cletracs NEVER had the Mc Deering, International start on gas run on diesel system, period.
@johnrobel Just a word about ether, early diesel engines such as cats etc needed to be started on ether as pre-heating systems were not employed in many of these types of engine configurations. Ether is not damaging or dangerous when used to start diesel engines. In-fact it is the ONLY safe way to start a diesel engine safely. Cat techs still carry a can of Aerostart in their toolkits even today!
@dieselenginefreak You are talking to a master. I have rebuilt, operated and started more cold diesel engines than you, I am sure of that. From Nordberg and Hendley to 399 Cat to little lister sigle lungers.DO NOT ASSUME my ignorance!

@catmaster81 Did you learn about engines the same place you learned how to spell? CatMASTERBATER?

@johnrobel Hey CATMASTERBATER81, aren't you the offspring from the love scene on the movie Deliverence? You sure sound familiar!

Why do you always use ether to start. A diesel should start without any ether help. It's not good for the engine.
MrMarman6 1 year ago
@MrMarman6 I thought the same thing, but try starting a Hercules DRXB without ether, then get back to us.
