Idk whether such a phenomenon occurs in real life but to me his video looks fake. Notice that at 0:16 the video flickers and the glass at the front becomes opaque instead of transparent. And if you are wondering about the metal braces, those have been painted on the front. A similar thing can be noticed at 0:28.

The explanation is simple he uses a simple crop tool to get a still frame of the back wall and put that back wall color over the cube you can do this on After Effects or Final Cut Pro and its really simple no mirrors or paper needed

I believe this phenomenon happens because of total internal reflection, kind of like when you look at the side of a fish tank through the front, it acts like a mirror. They use the same principle in fiber-optics.

I think it is a video edit. First off kipkay is great at shooting video. All of the amateur looking scratchyness is just an intentional affect to make the actual "cut" look natural at :17 when the non-clear surface is placed on. And again near the end.
