EdgunUSA has vids on exiting pellets and ricochets that would probably prevented you from taking the shot with the cardinal so close and behind like that. You could have killed it too.
@fx451Jockey Yea, you're right, but the cardinal and the sparrow were almost side by side. The pellet would have to turn almost 90 degrees upon impact. The other thing is I've shot enough of those things to know what will happen as far as pellet travel. The pellets just blow right through them. Nice pick-up though.
@mrFyrguy5 Fair play, it didn't look that way to me. Kinda funny though, you shoot on sight, I feed them as they're on the decline here in the UK. All the best.
i consider four shots: bad one (you failed to kill it before you walked to it), good one (was dead by the 3 seconds you walked to em shot was in torso, lungs and heart), excellent (they were dead before landing shot in the head), perfect (dead instantly, shot in the base of the head where the spine starts). you are 90% excellent shooter.
well made videos and great shooting! I just wonder about the type of agreement/understanding you have between you and your backyard neighbor. Do you let him know ahead of time so that he'll stay out of the way and not get hurt?
I live on an 80 acre farm in the country and use pellet rifles exclusively for squirrel hunting. I eat all I kill and save and cure the skins, too. I use a Beeman model 1337 that comes with a scope and TWO barrels...a .22 and a .177. These guns are $98 at Walmart.
For 2 years now ivebeen taking my bb gun out and shooting squirrels. It was my 21st kill when i made a lousy shot and it ran all the way up a tree when it died and fell 40 feet on my neighbors car. They saw the wound and told my parents who have now taken all my guns :(
@Brian32967 I don't because I live in the city and they eat anything and may be carrying disease. Thats why I remove them. If I lived in the country I would.
@MrMTBDH shoot at a target with a bullseye. At 20 yards the pellet won't be that far off with the scopes factory setting. I like to shoot at a target stapled to a piece of plywood so even if it doesn't hit the target you can see where it hit on the plywood. then adjust your scope from there.
@grahamlong They are good to eat! You cook them the same way as rabbits! I am in the Southern US where farm and mountain folks use squirrels as a major part of their diet We have Grey, Fox, Red, Flying and Chipmunks. We don't hunt the Flying or Chipmunk, but the other three are fair game and good to eat!
Recently I started shooting sparrows my self. At first I ignored them because I was not too sure about my aiming abilities and because the sparrow is a small target I did not take them on but now I hate them even more than doves and crows.
@mrFyrguy5 i was asking because it looks clear and most scope dont thru a scope cam and i had never seen those mil dots before anyways awsome vids love them

CBgamo 2 weeks ago in playlist More videos from mrFyrguy5
@CBgamo I skin them and give the meat to a trapper friend of mine. As far as the scope, it's a combo of a decent scope and a fairly no recoil gun.

do you use a bore sighter to zero in your rifle?
MrMTBDH 2 months ago
@MrMTBDH I don't use a bore sight, I just start @ 20 yrds and adjust to zero then move back some more to the distance you want to zero in on.
mrFyrguy5 2 months ago
@mrFyrguy5 i'm a little confused how do you know where the pellet will hit if you put your rifle @ 20 yds and zero the crosshair to a random point.
MrMTBDH 2 months ago
@MrMTBDH shoot at a target with a bullseye. At 20 yards the pellet won't be that far off with the scopes factory setting. I like to shoot at a target stapled to a piece of plywood so even if it doesn't hit the target you can see where it hit on the plywood. then adjust your scope from there.

@mrFyrguy5 ok, that's what I thought. I've done this but it never will be exact.
MrMTBDH 2 months ago
@MrMTBDH You also might want to pick up a cheap rifle vise to help you steady your gun.

Please come over to the UK and shoot as many grey squirrels as you can.
I despise them and shoot as many as possible. Because of their prevalance there are hardly any native reds left!
