Yeps, UK does use or didi use M16. Standard Infantry is issued the L85A2 and UKSF and UKSFSG uses Diemaco Rifles, mostly the C7 Carbine also called L119.

This isn't great representation of a typical SBS mission. It is very unlikely that they'd be ambushed like that, more likely to be doing the ambushing.

Is it not reasonable to argue that for a small and elite unit like the SBS. Military planners would be unlikely to throw these valuable soldiers unsupported into hostile territory seemingly not properly scouted out. Those SBS soldiers in the video were clearly ambushed and took at least 2 casualties. If this happened in real life, it would be considered a grave military mistake.

@wrestlemadsam There's a lot of different weapons in that ad, including a FN FAL. Special Forces tend to have their pick of weapons depending on the mission. It could also be the Canadian version of the M4.

Those were the days of boots weighing like wet bricks and 58 webbing which weighed like led when wet and webbing sores and shin splint. I remember when the USMC training came out, Christ it got real easy then, running in trainers ect. USMC ruined the Royals. We were fuckin hard bastards back in my time, because if you weren't you didn't last or you finshed up in Hunter.

I took it for a couple of reasons, Counter Terrorism is constantly changing and secondly it's good to constantly refresh,makes your portfolio look good. The SBS recruit from across the entire military, but the majority of SBS personnel are Royal Marines. This is due to the fact that the Royal Marines are the founders of the SBS, and arguably their first mission was Operation Frankton. The SBS and SAS selection is done together as they come under UKSF, but the final stages are done independently as they still have their differences. On a separate note, UKSF often use alternatives to the SA80 A2 as the alternative may better suit the task at hand.
@gazCROSSHAIR00 SAS`s standard weapons are the C8, G3 and the M4A1, but they use other weapons to, SBS are the same apart from the under water weaponry and other sea based gun, the RMC`s standard gun is the SA80 but they units that are joint to RMC use MP5`s, M16`s and M4A1`s.

The SBS are so underrated you have to pass the SAS selection process to get into the SBS, the only reason the SAS are so well known and looked up to is because of the iraninan embassy seige.
@BuffalloRider21 well you both the SAS and the SBS have the same selection process. you dont have to pass the SAS selection to sit the SBS selection. you sit the SBS selection. the reason the SAS are well known is that they are the world's best special force on which all other special forces are based. the green berrets,the SBS, the german special forces were all forged on the SAS.
the problem is that almost none of these can be purely royal marines. see theyre using sas and sbs weapons if they were royal marines they would use L85s or L86s. random thought

SA80 isn't a weapon it's short for Small Arms of 1980 (the year it was made) it's actually called L85A2.

@wrestlemadsam There's a lot of different weapons in that ad, including a FN FAL. Special Forces tend to have their pick of weapons depending on the mission. It could also be the Canadian version of the M4.

@ghilliedu25 its SA80 we use in the british marines as standard issue,i joined in the days of the old SLR wen the transition was beginning with the SA80,it as ad to be revised over the yrs into wat it is today,ther are different weapons for different combat situations obviously but if u are asking about standard issue then SA80 it is

You'd be a 84, 85 or 86 recruit? I'm a 79 but I remember having to give up my SLR for the SA80 in 86. Those were the days of boots weighing like wet bricks and 58 webbing which weighed like led when wet and webbing sores and shin splint. I remember when the USMC training came out, Christ it got real easy then, running in trainers ect. USMC ruined the Royals. We were fuckin hard bastards back in my time, because if you weren't you didn't last or you finshed up in Hunter.

@TheMarinemachine late 86 my friend,did my PRC in the summer then back 4 Basic Training(basic?still makes me laugh&cry wen i see it called that,lol) not good training in winter,the SA80 was just cummin in but we still used SLR's on the ranges&part of full fighting order for the yomps,wen like u said those boots wer like lead even b4 they got wet(the amount of blisters we ad to stitch thru,lol) hard bastards isnt the word,thats wen beastings wer beastings,only wore trainers in gym doin circuits

@TheMarinemachine i can remember gettin off the train outside at Lympstone,standing on platform,lookin at the estuary&thinkin thats a nice view,i was still scrubbing that mud out of my arse 20yrs lata,lol,iv scars under my chin 3" long from sniping up that hill after carry telegraph pole thru assault course,only to get in press up posistion head to head with your oppo who'd just got ther b4 u,then ad to knock each others arms away,my chin took a beatin till i got my 10th wind,lol,best times eva

I'm suprised you managed to get off the train. The Drivers used to drive straight passed for a laugh and you had to get out and run up the tracks...bastards. Mind you I used to laugh at the recruits when saw them doing the same thing. Wonford Hospital. Me and a couple of mates managed to get through about thirty five student nurses. As soon as you mentioned you were a Royal they were all over you because they thought you could f*ck all night, well we could couldn't we lol?

@TheMarinemachine lol roger that,i went in being such a fussy eater(i can laff now as it sounds pathetic,a marine not liking fatty meat,but that soon ad to change,remember doin survival training&getting caught with a mars bar(hairy caterpillars wernt a fav,lol)gettin put on report&the worst beastings ever,haha,as u well no,even the best eater cudnt get enuf protein down em for wat we burnt off so i really struggled in that department for a while,im 41yrs old&done now,wat else but Bootneck 4 life

What u doing now Royal? I went RMP and became a bodyguard. Pays bloody good..i.e £1,500 a day but the location...Iraq is piss poor. Give me a shout if you need assit next August, I'm looking to set up my own company.Need a few good men lol. I'm 49 and still able to kick ass. Daz, yep know Daz well. Bet if we meet we'll laugh because I've probably beasted you at some point, but where would you have been if I hadn't lol?

@TheMarinemachine i tried going into security&door work just to fill the void of adrenalin rushes&comradeship,but its nowhere near the same,besides i would've only got myself into trouble with tryin to watch the mouthy bigmen stay mouthy after a swift jab to their windpipe,lol,iv got my own building/conversion/kitchen company with my brother which is goin well,but if this economic decline carrys on i mite take you up on that assist,also if you hadnt beasted me it wudve been sum other bastard,lol

Well put it this way if you're in a room full of CPO's and you're the guy that is RMP trained, you'll get the job! Of that there is no doubt. I took a private course two years ago and sailed through. I took it for a couple of reasons, Counter Terrorism is constantly changing and secondly it's good to constantly refresh,makes your portfolio look good. If you're looking for a really good UK company look no further than Clearwater. :-)

@TheMarinemachine and those signs that used to be jotted about,with his arm or leg blown off,saying 400yrds to go,its only pain,lol,too rite it was only pain,made me what i am today&wouldnt change a thing,well i mite.i would've been glad of some of those light-weight boots back then,there was only 22 of us passed out from an initial 67,14 dropped out in the first 10 days&withered away as the days went by very slowly,haha,proudest day of my life&my familys passing out,we sure did earn that beret

You'll have been in Thommo's care and Sgt McCullock would have been your arms instructor. You'd have been there when Prince Edward got his nose busted while boxing. Nice to meet an old school Royal!

The SBS recruit from across the entire military, but the majority of SBS personnel are Royal Marines. This is due to the fact that the Royal Marines are the founders of the SBS, and arguably their first mission was Operation Frankton. The SBS and SAS selection is done together as they come under UKSF, but the final stages are done independently as they still have their differences. On a separate note, UKSF often use alternatives to the SA80 A2 as the alternative may better suit the task at hand.

@gazCROSSHAIR00 SAS`s standard weapons are the C8, G3 and the M4A1, but they use other weapons to, SBS are the same apart from the under water weaponry and other sea based gun, the RMC`s standard gun is the SA80 but they units that are joint to RMC use MP5`s, M16`s and M4A1`s.

@queenshussars When fighting with Commonwealth forces its never for nothing at all. UK AUS US ALLIANCE. SAS and Commando's (not just Royal Marines here) have taken the brunt of most casualties so far in the SF community

The SBS are so underrated you have to pass the SAS selection process to get into the SBS, the only reason the SAS are so well known and looked up to is because of the iraninan embassy seige.

@BuffalloRider21 well you both the SAS and the SBS have the same selection process. you dont have to pass the SAS selection to sit the SBS selection. you sit the SBS selection. the reason the SAS are well known is that they are the world's best special force on which all other special forces are based. the green berrets,the SBS, the german special forces were all forged on the SAS.

the problem is that almost none of these can be purely royal marines. see theyre using sas and sbs weapons if they were royal marines they would use L85s or L86s. random thought
