It's true, Japan expected to be out of resources within like a year and a half of the US cutting them off. It was a gradual process, first stuff like high octane fuel was banned (it's not difficult to raise the octane of regular fuel though, which is what they did), certain types of metal, etc. It forced Japan south to the Philippines and onto mainland China for stuff but they knew they'd have to seal off their eastern front first. Lets say if Israel invaded the US, would you round up every jewish person and throw them into a camp because they might be on Israel's side? But history leaves some details about the atrocities committed by japanese army in WW2 who were equal or surpassing the ones made my Nazis in concentration camps. It was not fair to imprison american citizens, but extreme situations require extreme measures. That's just my opinion.

The funny thing is that it was the Nisei Regiment - consisting of Japanese/Hawaiians - to allow the 5th US Army to break through the Gothic Line in central Italy. Which to that point had proven unbreakable by the other Allied Units.

alone this was a small time operation.

All of those drafted were in some way

negatively effected by the war and people did not see racism behind every tree as they do today. That is why there is not much taught about it as there much more important material to be covered.
