I WOULD HAVE really liked this version except that her singing was incredibly sloppy, sounded like she had marbles in her mouth or something. Beatles version each and every single word is clearly enunciated.
Also the jagger-esque pronunciation of MEE being sung as may' is annoying here. I like the guitar mix better here than on the original, where it is too far in the background
That's very messed up Cyndi! You do not need to look like June Child and make Ringo Starr look stupid! Do you have any clue who the bulldog in the song is?!
The least the ass guitarist could've done is learn the fucking solo. They go to such trouble orchestrating it the rest of it fantastically, but this guy has something to prove... get the fuck out.
Yes she is awesome. I don't remember her hair ever being that long. And her performance is a little less visually colorful. By that I mean no red hair, and such.
Cannot imagine Lady Gaga singing a Beatles' song. Most probably she wouldn't dare to profane their output. She should rather try herself with a chidren's song "Rain, Rain, Go Away" (Little Gaga wants to play).
what does horror house lady gaga have in common with beautiful cindy lauper what a laugh i needed that laugh garbabe compared to genuis cyndi good joke lol
The solo is ok. As has been said, it's not The Beatles. Is everyone who covers a Beatles song supposed to do an exact duplicate? Lauper is a unique artist and her take on this song and other Lennon classics such as Working Class Hero and Strawberry Fields while always respectful of the original, are also unique and that's what makes her an A level recording artist.
the guitar solo is completely out of his place, this is not gunsnroses, not even a late 80s or early 90s rock track: it's hey bulldog, do you know what i mean? ouch.
you're right, it's not the Beatles, but I feel that guitar solo is out of his place because it seems to me it's not fit to the song. The rhythm of the song is another kind of thing, the tune is another kind, the melody is another kind. I'm not stating the solo is awful or bad or anything like this: I state it's not suited to the song.
Music arrangement was great; think Lennon would have liked it. I always wanted to hear a woman sing this song. Carly Simon or Blondie would be cool too.
Okay, it's not great, but I just clicked on this link just to see how bad she'd murder this classic, and to my surprise, she didn't destroy it. Again, it's no ringing endorsement from a lifelong HUGE Beatle fan here, but it's not terrible. So, congrats to Lauper for not completely sucking!
Man ...I promise you i am the biggest Beatles fan EVAH! Right!...But this is one ass kickin version and it made me want to do Cyndi Lauper...Im talkin some serious wood here...Ka...Boingggg..!!!
Man if your a real Beatles fan you'll realise that this is a joke of the original version by Lennon maybe she is hot but she is a joke of a singer, u can barely understand what she says she makes a mess of this song she cant stand next to the beatles version
I am a real Beatles fan..I grew up in the 60,s...not only is this not a joke...it is a balls to the walls, full out rock and roll ass kicker!..Sorry ya cant accept Cyndi as a serious rock and roller...but thats your loss....close the mouth and open the mind...you just may learn somethin!
i can except her as a serious rock and roller but if you were to compare to John Lennon version its no where near as good, now as soon as u listen to this you would compare it so comparing it to Lennons its nothing.
its kickass....your bias because you think of Cyndi as some fluff pop star who sings "Girls just wanna have fun"..the band is smokin hot and Cyndi is wailing with some serious rock and roll attitude...Im a monster Beatles fan .trust me..and I love the original...but plain and simple ..this version kicks some serious ass...Id like to hear some of todays "artists" try to cover it...I shudder at the thought!
okaie i'll give you that i agreee with you two hundred percent i dont think at the moment theres a star that can do it at the moment but in the future there will be i can guarentee that too you
If they got rid of the horns and myriad of background singers it would be kick ass..... this song is two guitars, bass, piano, and 2 or 3 solid vocalists..... I HATE when artists cover songs with a thousand piece orchestra and a 200 member choir. Other than that, yes it's not bad, but less is more in my opinion.
Too bad about your cutting yourself off from great music because it isn't Beatles, but I guess that you want to be close-minded and obdurate. Oh well.
Dude, if you want to be like that, be like that, but promise me one thing; Don't pass your ways on to the next generation, we already have enough people who want to live in the past as it is-we need people who can live in the present, and look to (and build) a better future.
I'd have to agree w/ those who commend Cyndi on picking one of Lennon's more obscure songs to perform at this tribute. And the huskiness she brings to the vocal is just "rough enough." As for her ability to rock, I'm surprised that some ppl are surprised!
I never , ever thought id say this in my wildest day,,,but this may be THE one Beatles cover song that I like better than the original.....she tore that up!... awesome!.....John woulda loved it!
John would have loved Cyndi,s all out rock and roll spirit...balls to the walls ..no holdin back....besides that...John thought every song he did was shit!
I love when people who usually do pop stuff can do a great job on a rock tune. It shows they have more to them than what they usually perform. Plus, she picked a more obscure Beatles song. I have new respect for Cyndi Lauper for doing this.
this is in half jest, but I think possibly the best cover of a Beatles song is when Jim Carrey did I Am The Walrus for George Martin's CBC(Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)Beatles special. keeping our ties to England have finally paid off!
Must be listening to something else. I think this is a very exciting performance, best version of a fantastic song. If quality was better would be top marks.
I'm not a huge fan of Cyndi Lauper, but I give her props for picking a really excellent and under-known Beat;es tune to do. Also, I think she did a pretty decent job with it. Ups to you, Cyndi (and thanks for posting this)
Gahhd, Cyndi Lauper just never impresses me as a musician at all. Sounds like a screaming 12-year-old boy. No woman should sound like that.
However, I've got to commend her for gathering up the balls to so much as attempt a Beatles song. She knew she'd not be as good as the orignal, as did everyone else, I'm sure. It's what to be expected: everything sounds like crap when compared to the Beatles. They're unbeatable.
Do more research before you say she can't sing. She has a 4 octave vocal range and is a fantastic live performer... as many youtube vids with show you, esp. her performance of I'm Gonna Be Strong.
I hope you don't mean David Gilmour--one of the most unique and original guitarists of the rock genre. UNless you mean she's cookie-cuttering his brilliant style.
"Sounds like Beatles song!" erm, that's because it is. It's track 4 on side 1 of the Yellow Submarine Soundtrack (not to be confused with the pointless "Yellow Submarine Songtrack", though it's on there too).
Didn't she also sing Working Class Hero at this concert?

your right ..I have an idea lets get some alcoholic drugged up mess with an abusive past and a washed a career to do the song..Hey let's get Brian Wilson cause he can REALLY sing! get real buddy-you are a fuckin joke
I don't think its a matter of the lead being better or worse but different than the original. I like it too. I would like to hear tina turna do this song. She would rip it up.
What the fudge with all the negative comments? It's a TRIBUTE! And she has a fab voice. It's not supposed to be exactley like the original. Anyway, this rocks, and for the record, Tim Renwicks guitar solo is way better than George Harrisons on the original track. BITE ME!
