  • Gerald sounds a lot like Alexander Oneal.. Too bad he let greed get the best of him. Just goes to show, it really doesn't pay to always think... Me, me, me, meeeee..

  • Doesn't that beat break in the song sound like More Than A Woman by Bee Gees?

  • Go Jody, you know they did you wrong. Great song...

  • Memory Lane!

  • He's still waiting on that call...Lol.

  • @silky1700 Man.....talking about kicking yourself for "assholing" yaself out of the opportunity to be part of one of the biggest groups in history. That has got to be some hard regret to live with.

  • @DJTroyB I know he still thinking about that shit...Lol.

  • Just The Best ShalalalalalalaMar........!!!

  • So warm & clean.

    This is perfect production.

  • Great, also after more than 30 years

  • Fuckin bass!!!!!!

  • that's messed up how dick griffey did yall

  • Wow! I remember dancing at Osko's in West Hollywood during the kiddie disco to this song. Great memories. I love it!!!

  • I heard this on "Unsung".. I LOVE IT!!!!!

  • This is so awesome...

  • Do I hear More than A Woman performed the DJ Dado way?

  • I'm gonna play this on my voicemail when i win the lotto...

  • love vthis song best disco music

  • Beautiful ! ... no faking it ... Just Sing & Feel Good ... Wonderful ! (now i feel better)

  • PLEASE SAY THAT AGAIN, THE MUSIC NOWADAYS IS JUST WATER DOWN. THEY TOOK ALL THE GREAT SOUNDS FROM BACK IN THE DAYS AND MADE EVERYTHING SOUND TRASHY. WHERE IS OR GOOD MUSIC.

  • I am glad I was around when music sounded this good, 30 years on and nothing can compare to the quality of these sounds. You just do not get the sound of musical instruments much these days, but I dont care the memories will do.

  • Shalamar's "Unsung" episode on TVOne was great!

  • @LAWoman323213 To hear from original Shalamar lead singer Gerald Brown (excluded from Unsung), make sure to watch Jody Watley Unsung Unfiltered Part 8 at her Youtube channel, jwatley1

  • @OriginalShalamar Thanks for the info!

  • @LAWoman323213 I think the omitted a lot of details and watered it down, but still very interesting.

  • from what year is this?

  • @27twilightmoon

    1978

  • this was b4 howard hewitt..still a classic!

  • I had all Shalamar songs on cd that somebody broke! Yes I cried! But a sistah got it back and Im still sangin! Take that to the bank!! Lol

  • What a dumb-dumb I am ! I only saw this video about twice in '79, then saw Howard Hewitt in Shalamar afterwards.......I got it in my head it was Jeffery Daniels who sang this song, didn't realise it was another guy looking like him. So all these years I kept wondering why they didn't let Jeffery sing lead every now and then "cuz he sounded good on Take That to the Bank" - 31 years of being dumb ! How embarassing!

  • @andrewfrancis74 u can take that to the bank..LOOOL. God bless my brother....u are forgiven. Enjoy!

  • @toekie101 My humble thanks.

  • Jody Watley is SO sexy!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • Great coreography! 10 out of 10.

  • the vocals are what make this song special cause the lyrics are whack.

  • @MrFelix66

RIGHT...and today's lyrics are so much better. LOL

  • Good music

  • OMG we would rock all night!!!

  • My favorite song ever since I was lucky enough to see them in concert.

  • Think of where that group would have went had things not god sower with him an Solar. I loved Gerald's vocals then again do you think he would have made the 80's sound? Howard had the 80's sound vocally

  • I was only 3 years old when this song came out, but it's so good to be able to enjoy it today.

  • I was watching Unsung and they were talking about all the groups that Leon Sylvers III wrote for. This was one of my jams. Love this song.

  • I love this track.... amazing... wish I was born 20 years earlier

  • I love the choreography and the outfits...Like Motown. If you're gonna do it, do it RIGHT, and this was definitely doing it right!

  • Love their swaying movement at 1:48, particularly the lovely lady in BLUE!!!!

  • @myroseaccount You mean Jody Watley? Who had her own successful solo career... Also Jermaine Stewart had two monster hits of his own in the 80's. Just a great time to be old enough to enjoy the music...

  • That song brings a smile to my face. Gotta love the choreographed dance steps. They're definetely in tune.

  • Now this is music...I miss these days

  • They mentioned him. "The debonair Gerald Brown". Gerald wanted more money, so they dropped him and went with Hewitt. Gerald is a friend of mine from Cincinnati. INCREDIBLE voice. I can just imagine how "This is for the Lover in You: and "Make that move" would have sounded with him singing lead! WOW

  • @srdehaven Yeah i agree with you on that.

  • Watching " Unsung " they didn't mention this Guy,, Does anyone know his Name ???

  • @SuperShabazz1 Yeah they did mention him on Unsung. he sounded good on this song.

  • @SuperShabazz1 his name is Gerald Brown.

  • Jody was just too fine.

  • @Blkserpent1

Have you seen her lately???? She is STILL fine!

  • @AGLegend01 That she is.

  • jm bien les bastien

  • This song will never die. This is when music was music.................

  • She's so bee-you-ti-ful.

  • Was Howard Hewett on this song?

  • @elderdxc No. I think this was before he joined the group. I think this was Shalamar's first hit. Then Howard Hewittt joined right after and replaced the guy you see singing here.

  • @TheCalebson Also, all three of the people u see in this video were originally Soul Train dancers. Don Cornelius was partners and good friends w/ the late Dick Griffey, who owned SOLAR Records, which at that time and for most of the '80s, was the most successful, black-owned indie record label. It was Don who put them on the map by introducing them to Griffey. Howard Hewitt replaced the lead singer about 6 mnths after they released this single.

  • @tyrealmusic Yeah, I know a little bit about what happened but not most of the details. Thanks for the info man!

  • Also notice that there were fewer camera changes because fewer cameras meant that there were longer shots of the group actually performing. These days videos are made with 100s of cameras with directors flipping from image to image every second giving a disjointed picture of the group. Go back further to the 60s and you just have even fewer cameras.

  • This beat just makes me want to get up and move! what talent.

  • @MrJoe100000 i love this

  • The beat and rhythm of this song laid down by the drums and keyboards is sooo good. The jumpsuits and moves are pretty 70s, but there's no way you get this type of fresh and raw sound today. Take that to da bank!

  • Can't make music this good anymore.

  • I was a busboy in 77 in NYC. I used to have to drag myself in at 7:30 in the morning to start my shift.I'd play this song on the juke box every time.It sure made stocking sodas and taking out garbage a lot more fun!(LOL)

  • I just love this rithym.. I would gladly renouce the ERA we live right now for the 70's 80's.. They DO had good sounds.. : )

  • That SOLAR sound......

  • Damn!!!!

I love this sh!t!! This makes me smile. I think it's because this is the first song I remember liking when I was a shorty. Love the dance steps between 1:46 and 3:10

  • A SuperBad GROOVE!!!!!!!!

  • This was the Jam!!!!! Class act this was...I know that's right!!

  • Take That To The Bank!

  • Dam ! Jody fine .

  • I am a serious Shalamar fan!!! Great music!!!

  • love this track

  • This song reminds me of my wife when we first started dating.

  • thanks for the truth shalmar young great music.

  • good times.

  • Reminds me of the good old disco times. Sweet memories.

  • good old times

  • REAL MUSIC!!!!!!

  • This was thee very first 12" single I ever bought and still sounds as good. Like others I liked Gerald Brown too. The music may have been better - but the dance movements have greatly improved since then!

  • Im 19 and I listen to this song. I LOVE IT :D

  • gerald brown so natural and great singer, and a fabulouss man

  • cheese at its best

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gerald had a great voice, would've been great if he stayed with hem for a little longer till Howard would take over..

it's sad to see what music used to be..and what it has been reduced to over the last 30 years..such a shame to see these idiots they call ''artists'' these days on tv..

  • LOVE SHALAMAR, 5*****

  • @J77147 Merry Christmas.

  • @LBJTV It really is. The only ones who are picking up instruments are the so called rock n rollers but they're form of rock and roll leaves a lot to be desired. WTF happened to the United States?!?

  • The wonderful Jody.

    I luvved Shalamar SO much.

  • It,s to bad that the press never gave Jeffery the credit for teaching Mr. Jackon the moonwalk.

  • An Edward/Nile Rodgers classic! Terrific stereo separation - what a performance.

  • @Shapersofthe80s No, this was a Leon Sylvers production...remember, they were on Solar Records.

  • An Edward/Nile Rodgers classic! Terrific stereo separation - what a peformance.

  • I absolutely LOVE this song, but Shalamar just doesn't feel the same without Howard Hewett.

  • This is probably the best sound quality video i've seen anywhere, b it tv, radio, i-pod, or otherwise.

  • The original group members. Nice.

  • c ooooool

  • So this guy was int he group before Howard Hewett, does anyone know his name and why was he replaced?

  • @honeegrrl Gerald Brown

  • @honeegrrl Gerald Brown the group because of money that the late head of their record label owed him Dick Griffey didn;t wanna pay him so he left, Plus he;s still performing and in fact he's gonna be featured on Jody Watley's Unfliltered documentary which is on You Tube

  • The original lead singer had a really nice voice but Howard had more of marketable look. Does anybody know what happened to the original lead singer?

  • I took t to the bank and they cancelled my overdraft

  • I took t to the bank and they cancelled my overdraft

  • music is so wack now compare to this days

  • @doubline THAT WOULD BE JUST THE OPPOSITE. LISTEN TO THE SHIT TODAY TO REAL SINGERS OF YESTERDAY. THIS IS REAL RNB, NOT THAT GARBAGE OUT NOW.

  • super 70's

  • What a fantastic sound. Leon's production was the bomb. The mix if voices was super. I never heard a voice like Jody's, that's when artist could be different, look different and still sell records. The lead singer is super bad I love his strong baritone and Jeffery you da man. You don't FEEL recordings like this anymore much less hear them. Thanks for posting this super rare video I want a copy!!!!

  • @MahoganyArchives Until Dynasty some of the nasties shit I've ever heard...

  • This song makes me feel warm inside lol...

  • Jody had a beautiful little booty

  • Nice to see an early Shalamar.

  • This is the joint man. It make you take off your shoes and jam.

  • This is my jam! I love the lyrics in this song. The choreography is crisp and sharp. Did Jefferey Daniels have a face lift?

  • So funky, so fresh. Right on.
